In October 2006, the original Showplace investor/owners sold their shares back to the company to create an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and began the transition to a 100% employee-owned business. An ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) is a retirement plan that is independently administered and funded exclusively by the company using contribution guidelines established by the Internal Revenue Service. Each year, depending on profitability, Showplace makes monetary contributions to the ESOP and the ESOP uses the money to purchase shares of Showplace stock. The stock is then allocated to each full-time employee with one or more year of service and held in a trust in each employee s name until the employee retires. Contributions to the ESOP are made before taxes and all growth in the ESOP is accomplished free of taxes. Employees are not taxed until they retire, shares are sold back to the company, and the employee receives a cash payment. Each Showplace employee/owner, regardless of job level, has a vested interest in serving our customers and helping Showplace succeed. You may have the opportunity to be one of them! 2000: Showplace begins production in our new 70,000 square foot facility. Our first cabinets are produced at the rate of 50 per day. By the end of 2006, we were producing 725 cabinets each day. 2002: Our first expansion adds 43,000 square feet of plant and office area. This includes a third paint and trim line, and an enlarged finished goods warehouse. Showplace also continually adds exciting new products, like the ColorSelect finish shown at right. 2005: Our Harrisburg retail outlet is moved off site into its own facility. This includes comfortable, state-of-the-art training facilities where dealers from across the country are educated on kitchen and bath design along with the advantages Showplace offers. The roster of Showplace-owned retail outlets grows to include the Des Moines, Denver, Brainerd and Fargo markets by 2007. In 2008 a new showroom in Sioux Falls is added. 2006 to present: Showplace becomes 100% employee-owned in 2006. Continued expansion brings Showplace up to a combined 280,000 square feet of operating space in Harrisburg and Beresford. This includes new cafeteria and fitness areas for the employee-owners at our Harrisburg plant. Our Beresford door production facility is shown at left. Harrisburg plant workers perform a wide variety of functions, from sanding, finishing and assembly, to packing, shipping and maintenance. Applicants require no previous category experience. Beresford plant workers perform all the functions necessary for crafting fine cabinet doors from raw materials. There are also maintenance, scheduling and shipping roles. Customer Service positions are great for the people person, and include telephone support, order editing, and scheduling. Many of those on our Customer Service team started on our plant floor. Engineering, IT, and front office positions are open to those with the right training and experience. A wide range of opportunities exists, all with great potential for upward mobility. Showplace builds made-to-order, semi-custom cabinetry that goes into homes and businesses all over the country. Most of it goes into kitchens. The process starts with one of our nationwide dealer partners placing an order. This order will specify the type of wood and finish, the style, and the sizes of all the cabinets and other things needed. The order is checked for accuracy, and entered into our state-of-the-art computer system to be processed. Then we go to work building the order. At our Beresford facility, cabinet doors are made to the exact sizes needed. These doors are then brought to our Harrisburg facility, where they are sanded and finished. All the other components of the cabinet order are made in Harrisburg too, and go through a careful, multistep finish process. Once all the component parts are created and finished, each cabinet is assembled, checked, and carefully packed. Finally, our trucks are loaded and sent out around the nation to deliver the finished order. This entire process, from order to delivery, takes about four to six weeks.
