Verifying a Digitally Signed Email for the First Time Before receiving digitally signed emails, it is required to install the Root and Intermediate CA Certificates at the first time to verify the digital signatures. An email signed with a digital signature will not be verified if a Root and Intermediate CA Certificate has not been installed on the receiver's computer. An error message and icon will show up on the email indicating that there are problems with the signature.
Verifying a Digitally Signed Email for the First Time By clicking on the signature icon on the email, the error details of the signature will be opened up.
Verifying a Digitally Signed Email for the First Time User may click on the Details and View Certificate Authority button to view the signature layers and the Certificate Authority that issues the sender's signing certificate. By installing the Root and Intermediate CA Certificates will trust the sender's signing certificate as well as verifying the sender's signature.
Installing Root Certificate Step 1 Go to the Repository section of the esigntrust website (esigntrust Homepage Repository), under the second title esigntrust s Root and CA Certificates, click on the link Root Certificate and Issuing CA Certificates. Installing Root Certificate Step 2 Under the title Root, click on the link <Install> to open up the following File Download dialog box.
Installing Root Certificate Step 3 In the File Download dialog box, click on the Open button to open up the Root Certificate. Afterwards, press the Install Certificate button to start installing the Root Certificate.
Installing Root Certificate Step 4 Follow the instructions from the Certificate Import Wizard to install the certificate; finally a dialog box will be popped up to show the installation is successful.
Installing the Issuing CA Certificates Step 1 Go to the Repository section of the esigntrust website (esigntrust Homepage Repository), under the second title esigntrust s Root and CA Certificates, select the link Root Certificate and Issuing CA Certificates, then click on the link <Install> to download and install the relevant Government, Corporate or Personal Issuing CA Certificate. Installing the Issuing CA Certificates Step 2 In the File Download pop up dialog box, click on the Open button to open up the selected CA Certificate. Afterwards, press the Install Certificate button to start installing the CA Certificate.
Installing the Issuing CA Certificates Step 3 Follow the instructions from the Certificate Import Wizard to install the certificate; finally a dialog box will be popped up to show the installation is successful.
Verifying a Digitally Signed Email After installing the esigntrust Root and Issuing CA Certificates, digital signature from emails can be verified. When opening a digitally signed email, the error icon has now changed to a seal icon, indicating that the signature is valid and trusted. User may also click on the icon for more details about the digital signature.
Verifying a Digitally Signed Email By clicking on the Details button, it opens up the Message Security Properties which shows that the signature layers are now trusted and the signature is valid.
Verifying a Digitally Signed Email Remark However, if the same error message appears indicating there are problems with the signature after installing the esigntrust Root and Issuing CA Certificates, this means that the signature cannot be verified or the email might encounter changes after signing.
