GETTING READY TO USE YOUR CX-MC200LE-VZ MODEM Thank you for purchasing a CX-MC200LE-VZ modem. The CX-MC200LE-VZ modem, combined with Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge provides, your business with fully-integrated mobile broadband access. This secure, theft-deterrent solution keeps your locations online with the benefit of wireless broadband access. To support this modem, your Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge must be loaded with the appropriate firmware. Make sure your Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge is running firmware version 1.9.0 or later. Visit Juniper.net to download the latest firmware for your Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. EASY INSTALL It is easy to activate, connect and install the modem with the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. Here is the process: 1) Activate your CX-MC200LE-VZ modem with a mobile broadband data plan (see page 3) 2) Install the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem 3) Fine tune the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem location for optimal mobile broadband signal strength 2
ACTIVATING YOUR MODEM A wireless broadband data plan must be available for your CX-MC200LE-VZ modem. Wireless broadband data plans are made available from your service provider and are required to allow your modem to connect and transfer data on their network. To activate the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem: 1) Confirm with your service provider that your account and SIM have been properly provisioned. 2) Insert your SIM card into the SIM slot of the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem and attach the two included antennas (finger tight only). When connecting the provided antennas, review the connection points. Modem antennas have protruding pins. 3
INSTALLING YOUR MODEM The CX-MC200LE-VZ modem is designed to be used exclusively with the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. The CX-MC200LE-VZ modem is a plug-and-play device. Simply attach the modem to the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge and connect. The modem will connect through mobile broadband if the technology is available in your area. To install the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem: 1) Turn the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge OFF. Step 2 Step 4 2) Align the CX-MC200LE-VZ USB plug with the appropriate USB port on the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. 3) Connect the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem to the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge, pressing on both devices. 4) Insert screws in the screw holes on the backside of the unit to secure the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge and the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem to each other. 5) Turn the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge ON with the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem attached. 6) After powering up your modem, it may take several minutes for the modem to connect to the network. Please be patient for this process to complete. If you are using a static IP SIM, this process may take longer. 7) When a broadband connection is active, the modem USB1 LED will turn solid green on the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. 8) Check modem signal strength LEDs to make sure the unit is in a good coverage area. Look for 2 or more signal strength bars on your Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge. With mobile broadband signal coverage, you are now ready to access the broadband network! 4
UPDATING Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge FIRMWARE Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge firmware needs to be version 1.9.0 or later to support the CX-MC200LE-VZ modem. To update your Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge, use the following steps: To download firmware: 1) Using a browser, navigate to http://www.juniper.net. 2) Browse the site to locate and download the latest Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge firmware. To update firmware through Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge browser: 1) Connect your computer to the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge with an Ethernet cable. 2) Open a browser window and type http://192.168.30.1 in the address bar and then press Enter. 3) When prompted for a password, type the six characters of your MAC address found on the adapter product label. 4) Select TOOLS on the top navigation bar, then FIRMWARE in the left menu. 5) Find MANUALLY UPGRADE FIRMWARE and click the BROWSE button. 6) Select the firmware file you saved to your desktop and click OPEN. 7) Click the UPLOAD button. Do not close the browser window until the firmware is updated. The Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge reboots after the update is complete. 5
To update firmware using a USB flash drive: 1) Copy the downloaded Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge firmware file from your desktop to a USB flash drive. 2) Rename the file name from u_cx111_xxxx_xx_xx.bin to u_cx111.bin. 3) Insert the USB flash drive into one of the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge USB ports. 4) The Failover LED on the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge displays solid green and the High-speed LED starts to blink green. Note: Wait until the High-speed LED displays solid green. This process takes 5-10 seconds. 5) Remove the USB flash drive. Wait for the Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge to reboot (all LEDs will flash). ANTENNA POSITIONING WITH BUSINESS-GRADE MODEM The Juniper Networks CX111 3G/4G Bridge can be installed in either desk mount or wall mount orientation. Depending on the type of installation, the CX-MC200LE-VZ antenna position may need to be adjusted to optimize signal reception.
