Public Health and Tanspotation Coalition (PHiT) Vision, Mission, Goals, Objectives, and Wok Plan 2, 2012 Vision We envision Maine as a place whee people of all ages and abilities can move about in ways that ae safe, enjoyable, convenient, and healthy. Mission The Public Health and Tanspotation Connection is an ad hoc coalition in southen Maine of individuals and oganizations fom a numbe of sectos including health, tanspotation planning, law enfocement, education, eceation, and govenments at all levels. Ou mission is to build awaeness of the elationship between tanspotation design and health; and to stimulate actions that esult in impoved health and safety. We do this by influencing policy development, infastuctue investment, and tanspotation design; and by speaheading community education and paticipation. Objectives A. Incease the numbe of towns in southen Maine that have adopted and implemented Complete Steets policies, which ae oadways designed and opeated to enable safe access fo all uses. Pedestians, bicyclists, motoists and tansit ides of all ages and abilities must be able to safely move along and acoss a complete steet. B. Incease awaeness and enfocement of laws potecting bicyclists and pedestians by patneing with law enfocement and othe agencies. C. Expand awaeness of Safe Routes to Schools, a national initiative to impove safety and accessibility, and educe taffic and ai pollution in the vicinity of schools. The goal is to encouage a healthy and active lifestyle fom an ealy age by making bicycling and walking to school safe and moe appealing. D. On an ongoing basis, seek out cuent and emeging initiatives to leveage effot and build awaeness. Examples below: 1. HUD Southen Maine Sustainability Initiative 2.
