4 Califonia National Univesity Bachelo of Compute Science DEGREE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS A High School Diploma o GED equivalent is equied fo admission. Applicants to the Bachelo of Compute Science degee pogam ae expected to have a backgound in algeba, plane geomety, tigonomety, physics and chemisty. If an applicant lacks this backgound, peequisite couses will be assigned fom the CNU Basic Sciences Cuiculum. The Bachelo of Compute Science cuiculum is designed to povide a fomal body of knowledge fo students inteested in caees in the eve evolving compute industy. The cuiculum includes a foundation in basic sciences, which includes couses elated to both softwae and hadwae fundamentals, and selected electives to allow students to specialize in aeas of thei inteest. BCS PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: An undestanding of the math and science skills equied by the compute science pofessional. An undestanding of the fundamentals of softwae and hadwae design. An ability to pogam effectively in at least one high level language. An undestanding of opeating systems and pinciples elated to netwoks. 5 Bachelo of Compute Science Geneal Education 30 units (Lowe division) Students pusuing a Bachelo of Compute Science degee must complete a beadth equiement of 30 Geneal Education units. Students may elect to take the College-Level Examination Pogam (CLEP) exams to meet this equiement instead of o in combination with couses. Students have the option to fulfill geneal education equiements by choosing couses elated to the following subject aeas: 1. Communications (witten/oal) 2. Computation (quantitative easoning/concepts) 3. Social Science (histoy, sociology, economics, and politics) 4. Compute Technology & Pactice 5. Compute science Coe 45 units (Lowe/Uppe division) The Compute Science coe and elective couses consist of a mixtue of guided instuction and lab fomats. Laboatoy couses in Compute Science ae those couses in which the majoity of time is spent witing and using softwae on a pesonal compute. You will need to acquie access to a PC o Macintosh compute capable of suppoting a pogamming language envionment such as C o Visual Basic. Intenet access and an addess ae equied. Compute Science Electives 18 units (Uppe division) Elective Aeas Compute Engineeing Compute Science Capstone Poject 3 units (Uppe division) In addition, a Capstone Poject is equied which begins with an appoved poposal on a elevant and cuent subject. The Capstone Poject should demonstate the student s ability to apply the pinciples of Compute Science to a pactical poblem.
