Software Installation Instructions Installing Network Configuration Editor (NCE) Emphasis User: Unless you are upgrading to a more recent version of NCE or node software (currently v3.0.2), it is already installed for you as part of your base system with Emphasis v1.1.0. To install the ETCNet2 NCE: Step 1: Insert the CD-ROM with NCE v3.0.2 on it into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. Step 2: On your desktop, double-click My Computer. Step 3: Double-click Compact Disc. Step 4: Double-click the Setup.exe icon for NCE and follow the instructions on your screen. Step 5: Use the default installation location Step 6: Use the default Setup Type of Typical. Step 7: Near the end of the install process, a NICPicker window will appear. This is to allow to select which Network Interface Card (NIC) you want to use with ETCNet2 applications such as NCE. Checkmark the box of the one you want to use. If only one NIC is NCE v3.0.2 Release Notes Page 2 of 7 Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.

available, use that one. Step 8: Step 9: Once you have selected your NIC, choose Save. A Save dialog box will appear. The default directory and file name to save your selection is correct. Do not change the location or the file name! The file name must be: etcnet2.cfg Step 10: Step 11: Step 12: Click Save. Close NICPicker. Click Finish to complete the NCE installation process. There are three additional files that must be installed separately from NCE. They contain the dmxnode.bin, vidnode.bin and twoport.bin files for the ETCNet2 DMX, Video Nodes and Two Port Nodes respectively.these files are self-extracting executable files that are used to update software on ETCNet2 nodes and enable the Network Address Server to hand out IP address to those node types. To install the dmxnode.bin, vidnode.bin and twoport.bin files (follow the same procedure for each of the files): Step 13: Double-click the dmx_a3.0.x.exe file (vid_a3.0.x.exe for the Video Node file and two_a3.0.0.exe for the Two Port Node). These file names will change slightly with minor updates to the software. Step 14: Step 15: Step 16: Step 17: Step 18: Click Unzip. You must install the.bin files in the default directory. NCE is programmed to look in the default directory and will not update nodes properly if the.bin files are not stored there. If a dialog box appears asking if it is okay to overwrite the existing files, click Yes. This will replace a previously installed version of node software with the current version. Then click OK and Close Repeat steps 12 through 15 for the other node types. NCE v3.0.2 Release Notes Page 3 of 7 Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.

Network Settings Emphasis User: The Emphasis Server network settings are the default ETC values and ready for immediate use. No configuration is required. IP addresses for ETCNet2 nodes are automatically set by NCE based on the IP address of the PC that Network Configuration Editor is installed on. You also must set an IP address for any personal computer you plan to use on an ETCNet2 network. ETC recommends that the personal computer used on an ETCNet2 network is dedicated to that network so changes to network settings are kept to a minimum. If the computer you wish to use is currently being used on a non-etcnet2 network please consult your Network Administrator before changing the IP, Subnet Mask or Gateway addresses. Default Network Settings for your personal computer Prior to changing any Network settings on your personal computer please record the current settings in the following spaces below. IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway To use your personal computer on an ETCNet2 network that does not use a network router (i.e. hub and/or switch only), ETC recommends the following default settings: IP Address 10.101.1.101 Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 Gateway 10.101.1.101 If you have a network that does include a network router, you must set the Gateway address to the appropriate port on the router. Each additional computer on an ETCNet2 network must have it s own IP address which must be different from any other computer on the same ETCNet2 network. Select from the following default range of IP addresses for an additional personal computer running NCE: 10.101.1.101 10.101.1.113 10.101.1.102 10.101.1.114 10.101.1.103 10.101.1.115 10.101.1.104 10.101.1.116 10.101.1.105 10.101.1.117 10.101.1.106 10.101.1.118 10.101.1.107 10.101.1.119 10.101.1.108 10.101.1.120 10.101.1.109 10.101.1.121 10.101.1.110 10.101.1.122 10.101.1.111 10.101.1.123 10.101.1.112 10.101.1.124 NCE v3.0.2 Release Notes Page 4 of 7 Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.

Bootp.cfg file settings In NCE version 3.0.2, you should not need the bootp.cfg file unless you are running a version of Windows prior to Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition. It is still included with this release and will not overwrite your bootp.cfg file from a previously installed version of NCE. Read on if you think you still need to edit this file. There is a file installed in the Windows directory that may require user intervention. If you use something other than the default IP addresses, the bootp.cfg file must be set to match the network settings on your personal computer. To change the bootp.cfg file settings: Step 1: Using Windows Explorer, browse to the Windows folder (default path is C:\windows or C:\winnt depending on the operating system of the machine) Step 2: Double-click on bootp.cfg (if it does not automatically open in Notepad, select Notepad in the Open With dialogue box. Do not check the Always open with... box). Step 3: Edit the bootp.cfg file so that the Gateway and the Subnet Mask match the Network Settings of your personal computer. Step 4: Save your changes and close Notepad. If you are using default IP Addresses the bootp.cfg file will not need to be changed. Issues Corrected in v3.0.2 236 The Printer button brings up the About dialog. 235 Two paste buttons in tool bar. The one with the yellow clipboard is the actual paste button. The other is the print button. 229 Can not open file 'Default.nce' when default location of the file is changed. Workaround: Use Windows Explorer and double-click on the file name (Default.nce). It will open the file in NCE properly. Issues Corrected in v3.0.0 208 Cannot copy/paste an entire node's configuration. 207 Changing Input/Output sets EDMX Channels to default. 201 Changing from input to output doesn't change write properties. 200 After inserting 2port config, DD fields are read only for interested devices. 199 Network Address Server starts w/o bootp.cfg file. NCE v3.0.2 Release Notes Page 5 of 7 Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.

Issues Corrected in v3.0.0 [continued] 198 vport column & vport Table accepts string values. 191 No error is reported when a 'get config' fails. 184 NCE accepts invalid IP addresses. 150 NCE redraws grid after selecting 'no' in the get config dialog box. 143 EDMX Start & EDMX channel can be set to invalid values. 30 Undo changes the view, changes the look, adds row, etc Known Issues Remaining in v3.0.2 245 Cannot open file 'Default.nce' in the default directory 244 Error messages when delete button pressed on keyboard for highlighted node. 243 NCE abruptly exits after undoing a copy of an entire node. 242 End of Version String includes invalid characters 239 Running 'Network Server' on an Emphasis Server abruptly closes NCE. 238 DMX Input Properties accept out of range data. 237 DMX Output Property EDMX End can have invalid value. 234 Can not double click on file name with spaces to open document in Windows 98. Workaround: Open the configuration file from the File menu or rename the file without spaces in the name. 233 'Get Config' does not retrieve Network Addresses on Windows 98. 232 Changing the Network Address password to something other than the default will not save and will revert to the default upon the next startup. 222 Remote Macro, Trailing Edge doesn't work 220 NCE UI is nonresponsive while reading node info on a large network. 219 Discover Nodes does not work on NT based OS 218 Remote macros are N/A in Node Details view. 210 New Remote Macro/Remote Trigger settings for Video Node. 188 The Cut function (Control-X or from the edit menu) is not and will not be supported in NCE. 180 Bootp Server will not start if another TFTP server (such as CiscoWorks software) is on the PC. 177 vport allows edmx channels up to 33279. 168 If you select a value in a in a cell (highlight it). Then switch view to node details. The highlighted value is not refreshed, remains on screen. 161 EDMX channels change, but not the EDMX end value, when a vport is changed. 160 'Send Config' to all tries to send config to nodes that are offline. 159 There is no error message for duplicate IPs online. 158 The NCE.log file doesn t have a size limit on it and can get too large to open easily. Workaround: If you are able to, delete the file prior to using it to capture information so it only contains the information you want. 153 vport value is not changed during a Get Config from Nodes. 142 Values can be pasted into read only cells. 141 Read/Write properties can be pasted into a cell. 140 Shift & Control work differently in NCE then in most Windows applications. Shift is not supported. Control only adds individual selects and does not deselect. 138 Illegal values can be pasted in a cell. 123 Selecting Network Addresses resorts the grid (no order). NCE v3.0.2 Release Notes Page 6 of 7 Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.

Known Issues Remaining in v3.0.2 [continued] 119 The vport dialog box skips deleted vport numbers. 95 The vport value can be changed to a vport that doesn't exist. 82 A Get Config command on an individual node resorts (no order). 4 It is possible to highlight a range that includes read only cells, press Del and delete the content of the cells.
