AB THIS MANUA TODUCTION Cable TV brings a wide array of home entertainment to the cable viewer. To enjoy that programming, your television must first be set up to receive the cable signal. BD-V3000 DIAGAM FOCUS OF THIS MANUA Much of how your BD-V3000 Voyager Home Terminal operates is determined by your cable TV service provider. Those operating instructions may be found in a separate manual. The purpose of this guide is to assist you with connecting the Voyager Home Terminal to a TV and/or VC and learning about its front- and rear-panel items. FEATUE IDENTIFICATION FONT PANE BYPASS IGHT ights when the optional F Bypass Adapter module is switched to bypass mode. When in bypass mode, the Adapter sends cable signals directly to the TV. CHANNE AND VOUME CONTO/ CUSO MOVEMENT KEYS These keys have different functions, depending on what is displayed on the TV screen. During normal TV viewing, the 5/ (up/down) arrows change the channel by stepping up or down one channel at a time. The /3 (left/right) arrows adjust the sound level up or down. When a menu is displayed, these same keys move the cursor up or down, left or right. CHANNE NUMBE/TIME DISPAY Shows channel number or current time. Also shows rec when recording is taking place. CEA/MUTI-PUPOSE KEY When a menu is displayed, returns you to normal TV viewing. May also have special functions as described in the on-screen display. MESSAGE IGHT Blinks when the BD-V3000 receives a message for you from the cable company, or an E-mail message from another person. POWE BUTTON Turns on the BD-V3000 and lights the Power-On indicator ight when pressed, or turns all off when pressed again. May also control the AC Power Outlet, depending on the BD-V3000 s settings. (efer to the separate operating instruction manual.) POWE ON DICATO IGHT ights to show the BD-V3000 is turned on. EMOTE SENSO WDOW eceives signals from the remote control. IMPOTANT: Do not block this window. SEECT KEY Selects the desired action highlighted on the screen. SMATCAD SOT Accepts a special card provided by your cable company. This card is not always needed for BD-V3000 operation, unless required by the cable company. EA PANE AC POWE ET Connects to an unswitched 10-volt AC outlet, using the detachable power cord (included). AC POWE ET Provides AC power to the connected TV. CAUTION: Connect only the TV AC power cord to this outlet. This outlet allows 400 watts maximum power consumption. To prevent the risk of fire or damage to the Home Terminal, do not connect any kind of equipment of more than 400 watts power use, or any other equipment (toaster, hair dryer, etc.). BASEBAND AUDIO PUT CONNECTOS Connects to the stereo ( and ) audio outputs of a DVD or aserdisk player. When the BD- V3000 is off, this audio goes to the Baseband Audio Output Connectors. BASEBAND AUDIO PUT CONNECTOS Connects to the stereo ( and ) audio inputs of a VC, audio amplifier, or TV. equires audio cables with male phono (CA) plugs (not included). BASEBAND S- PUT CONNECTO Connects to the S-video input of a TV or VC. equires special S-video cable (not included). If your TV or VC doesn t have a similar S-video jack, use the standard baseband video connection instead. BASEBAND PUT CONNECTO Connects to the video output terminal on a DVD or aserdisk player. During power standby status, the video is output to the output connector. BASEBAND PUT CONNECTO Connects to the standard baseband video input of a VC or TV. equires video cables with male phono (CA) plugs (not included). CABE PUT CONNECTO Connects to the incoming cable service. equires 75-ohm coaxial cable with male F - type connectors (not included). CONNECTIONS BD-V3000 CONNECTIONS These are some suggested basic hook-up diagrams for the BD-V3000, both with and without a VC. Simple Connection. This is the simplest connection, but does not provide stereo sound on analog channels. CABE TV ECEPTION CONNECTION POCEDUES Connect your equipment as shown in the figures on page 6. Use the first table if you are only connecting the BD-V3000 to a TV. STEP 1 3 4 ACTION Connect cable service to BD-V3000 CABE (input connector). If TV has video and stereo audio inputs: Follow the Stereo Connection diagram on page 6. Connect BD- V3000 / AUDIO and to the corresponding jacks on the TV, using shielded CA (phono) jumper cables. If TV is a 4-pin S-Video jack, connect BD-V3000 S- to TV S- using a special S-Video jumper cable. eave BD-V3000 unconnected. If TV has no video/audio inputs: Follow the Simple Connection diagram on page 6. Connect BD- V3000 TO TV (output) connector to the TV VHF ANTENNA PUT. If TV VHF ANTENNA PUT is a 300-ohm twin-lead (with two screws), then use a 75 ohm - 300 ohm adapter. Plug TV AC cord into BD-V3000 AC outlet. Plug BD-V3000 AC cord into an AC outlet that is not controlled by a switch. If you have a VC, follow the procedure below to connect it between the BD-V3000 and the TV: STEP 1 3 4 5 ACTION Follow the VC Connection diagram on page 6. Connect cable service to BD-V3000 CABE (input connector). Connect BD-V3000 outputs to VC inputs using the same criteria and procedures as in step of the table above for TV connection. Connect the VC outputs to the TV inputs, again using the same criteria and procedures. Connect TV AC cord to BD-V3000 AC outlet. Connect VC and BD-V3000 AC cords to AC outlets that are not controlled by a switch. NOTE: When disconnecting the BD-V3000, follow these steps in reverse order. Be sure to unplug the BD- V3000 s power cord first. SETTG UP THE TV Follow the steps in the table to set up your TV for cable. STEP 1 ACTION If you used the Simple Connection method: Tune TV to channel 3 or 4. Other documentation that came with your BD-V3000 may explain how to switch the BD-V3000 output channel between 3 and 4. If you used the Stereo or VC Connection method: Select the A/V (Audio/Video) input setting on your TV. Use your remote control s TV POWE button to turn the TV on and off. Exception: TV sets without remote control can be turned on through the BD- V3000. eave the TV power switch on. Use the on-screen menu to change the BD-V3000 s outlet from UNSWITCHED to SWITCHED. Use the BD-V3000 front panel or remote control CB POWE button to turn the TV on and off. TUNG OFF THE BD-V3000 To turn off the BD-V3000 home terminal, press the CB POWE button on the remote control, or the POWE button on the BD-V3000. You can use your remote s TV POWE button to turn the TV on/off if you have set up the remote with the correct TV code. VC ECODG The BD-V3000 has an optional VC Commander that lets you automatically record programs. Please refer to the separate VC Commander manual for installation instructions. 7

Is a cable connected between B D-V 1000 T O T V connector and T V input connector; or between B D-V 1000 V IDE O and / A U DIO output connectors and T V V IDE O and / A U DIO input connectors? Is the B D-V 1000 A C cord plugged in to an unswitched A C outlet? A re both B D-V 1000 and T V turned on? Is your T V tuned to the correct channel (3 or 4), or set to display the A /V (audio/video) input? If no picture on one channel, try the other. Has there been a recent lightning storm? If so, reset your B D-V 1000. (S ee the ightning Protection Circuit section.) CHECK TADEMAKS AND COPYIGHTS IGHTNG POTECTION CICUIT T he B D-V 1000 features a lightning protection circuit.
