Undergraduate Calendar Description Changes: 11) Child and Youth Worker: Graduates of all Ontario St. Clair College Child and Youth Worker diploma programs completed in 1996 or later with a cumulative average equivalent to a B (73%) or better will be eligible for entry into an appropriate level of Disability Studies General BA and Honours BA programs and Psychology General BA and Honours BA Degree Completion Pprograms for CYW Graduates and are eligible to apply for entry into all the Honours Bachelor of Social Work program for CYW Graduates. Completion of these programs will normally require three semesters of full-time study (for Ggeneral BA degree completion programs) or four semesters of full-time study (for Hhonours BA and BSW degree completion programs). Students may enroll in these programs in Summer, Fall or Winter semesters. RATIONALE Please provide a rationale for the proposed change(s). Bilateral to Multilateral Degree Completion Programs All Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Child and Youth Worker (CYW) advanced (threeyear) diploma programs share a common set of learning outcomes mandated by the Ministry of Training, College and Universities (MTCU). An extensive review of CYW programs was conducted as part of the MTCUfunded Community Services transfer project and submitted to PDC and to Senate in support of the multilateral block transfer agreement for CYW graduates approved in May 2013. The block transfer agreement enables CYW graduates from all Ontario colleges to enrol in any FAHSS BA or four-year BSW program. The current bilateral degree completion programs for St. Clair CYW graduates recognize the particularly high affinity Page 8 of 11

between the CYW diploma program and University of Windsor disability studies, psychology and social work degree programs. These bilateral degree completion programs have attracted an increasing number of St. Clair CYW graduates since their approval in 2009 as well as an increasing number of enquiries from CYW graduates from other Ontario colleges. Given that the curricula of all Ontario college CYW programs share a high affinity with disability studies, psychology and social work programs, we believe it is appropriate at this time to amend the current degree completion agreements to include qualified graduates from all Ontario college CYW programs. It should also be noted that the movement from bilateral to multilateral agreements is consistent with both the MTCU and the University of Windsor commitment to facilitating postsecondary student mobility. Reference to Summer enrolment In order to maximize transfer student success, some universities (e.g., Wilfrid Laurier) require transfer students to complete a summer bridging program that includes core program courses (e.g., statistics, research methods). This approach is problematic for students whose CYW programs extend to the end of August (e.g., St. Clair CYW-Accelerated program) or who for financial or other reasons are unable to enroll until the fall semester. A required summer bridging program also works only if the institution can guarantee that the necessary courses will be offered and that there will be room in these courses for transfer students. At the same time, we want to make students aware of the possibility of summer enrolment so they can take advantage of this head start if they would like to do so. Recommendation to consult with academic advisor Although all Ontario CYW programs share the same learning outcomes, there are curricular differences that make it advisable for all students admitted to these degree completion programs to consult with an academic advisor prior to registration in order to map out their course choices. This recommendation is consistent with the practices at some other Ontario universities (e.g.,at Western, this is a requirement) and also with research on best practices for maximizing transfer student engagement and retention. Deletion of 01-150 and 01-151 as program requirements The curricula of Child and Youth Worker advanced diploma programs typically include one or two communications courses covering some or all of the material covered in 01-150 and 01-151. Further, three-year Advanced Diploma programs require a minimum of 1800 hours of instruction in English (compared to ~1440 hours of instruction in English for a four-year, 40 course degree program at the University of Windsor. For these academic reasons, and consistent with Senate Policy F4, these degree completion programs enable students to replace 01-150 and01-151 with two other FAHSS courses. Exclusion of two psychology courses from degree completion programs Extensive analysis of Ontario CYW diploma programs indicates that all CYW graduates have covered the course content and fulfilled the learning outcomes associated with the second introductory psychology course (46-116: Introduction to Psychology as a Social Science) and the first developmental psychology course (46-223: Developmental Psychology: The Child). Other exclusions are not warranted, based on the curricular differences referenced above; the recommended course review with an academic advisor prior to course selection will enable students to choose courses that will be of most benefit. C. RESOURCES C.1 Available Faculty and Staff Resources (QAF sections 2.1.7, 2.1.8, 2.1.9 and 2.1.10) Describe all faculty and staff resources (e.g., administrative, teaching, supervision) from all affected areas/departments currently available and actively committed to support the program change(s).
