ISPS & WEBHOSTS SETUP REQUIREMENTS & SIGNUP FORM LOCAL CLOUD

LOCAL CLOUD SETUP REQUIREMENTS Hardware Requirements Local Cloud Hardware Different hardware requirements apply depending on the amount of emails filtered. The following recommendations for the installation of a SpamExperts Local Cloud are based on: Average of 10 active email users per domain Average email usage Average attachment size Average traffic shape CPU CPU cache Storage type in order of preference Hard disk size Internet connection bandwidth >= 1.8 GH >= 1 MB 1. SSD 2. SAS 15K / 10K RPM 3. SATA 6 Gbit/s 4. SATA 3 Gbit/s >=80 GB >= 256 kbps If your domains and traffic differ significantly from these averages, other hardware specifications may be more suitable. The table serves as a rough overview. Number of hosting domains Average not-spam deliveries per day Number of filtering servers CPU cores RAM (GB) Storage 50-5.000 1.000-50.000 2 2-4 4-6 5.000-50.000 50.000-500.000 2-4 4-6 6-8 50.000-100.000 500.000-750.000 4-5 6-16 8-16 SSD / SAS 100.000-500.000 750.000-1.000.000 5-6 16-24 8-16 SSD / SAS 500.000-1.000.000 1.000.000-1.500.000 6-8 16-24 16-32 SSD / SAS 1.000.000-5.000.000 1.500.000-2.000.000 8-10 24-32 16-32 SSD / SAS Notes Hard disk: the faster the read/write speed of your hard disk are, the more email can be processed by the servers. Fast write speed is also beneficial for the logging/quarantine role. Virtualization: servers can optionally be virtualized (VMWare, KVM, Xen, OpenVZ, Hyper-V, Virtuozzo, etc.). Internet connection bandwidth should be high enough to deal with all email traffic / regular software updates. Root access: for the installation to work smoothly, we need direct SSH root access to the default port. No changes should be made to the Debian default settings. No external firewall should be active, a local firewall runs on the systems and is managed by SpamExperts. Software management: SpamExperts will take full care of the software management on the cluster. Customers should not change the configuration of the OS / software (except for the networking settings). Recommendations Hard drives in RAID1 at least on the master/quarantine/logging server for redundancy. Disk size may be further increased depending on the expected amount of quarantined spam emails and logging data.

LOCAL CLOUD SETUP REQUIREMENTS Software Requirements Server Set-Up Round Robin In a Round Robin setup, both the primary and fallback MX-record point to a host name that has multiple A-records. The host name of the primary MX-record has A-records to the primary IP(s). The host name of the fallback MX-record has A-records to the fallback IP(s). The servers themselves need separate host names (different from the MX-records) for update and maintenance purposes. An example is shown below. To optimally use the available resources, SpamExperts recommends a parallel setup for the filtering servers. Each server in this setup acts both as a primary and fallback server, which implies: One host name per server 2 IP addresses per server 2 A-records per server 2 MX-records Primary MX-record mxrecord1.example.com A-record 1 A-record 2 A-record 3 IP: 123.111.111.111 IP: 123.222.222.222 IP: 123.333.333.333 server1.example.com server2.example.com Load balanced Fallback MX-record A-record 4 mxrecord2.example.com IP: 123.444.444.444 In a load balanced system, the primary MX-record hostname resolves to the load balancer primary IP, the fallback MX-record to the fallback IP. The load balancer then distributes the traffic evenly to the filter-cluster IPs. Classical primary/fallback In a classical primary fallback setup, the primary MX-record points to the primary server IP of the filter-cluster and the secondary IP points to the fallback IP of the filter-cluster. In such set-up, the primary server will have to handle most of the load alone and the fallback only becomes active in times of high load. Operating System Requirements Linux Debian The standard installation required on all (optionally virtual) servers is: Debian Linux 7.0 (Wheezy) minimal installation with OpenSSH-Server, 64bit Default partitioning (all files in one partition) Swap partition (this is the default) No (security) changes to the default configuration Debian is a very straightforward system. Even if you are not familiar with it, you should be capable of installing it without any problems. Download & Installation The installation instructions can be found at: https://www.spamexperts.com/userarea/kb/34/set-up-my-dedicated-serverfor-spamexperts.html

SIGNUP FORM DEDICATED Please submit THIS PAGE ONLY via Sign-Up Form Email: support@spamexperts.com or Fax: +31 43 711 3801 Checklist Please check whether you have done the following, before submitting this page: I SpamExperts My hardware fulfills the minimum requirements I have installed Linux Debian as the server OS I have filled-out all details below I understand my server hostnames should not be used as MX record hostname, and will be visible in the email headers. In case of a private label setup, I have chosen an anonymous domain. I have verified that each servername resolves to one IP (the primary server IP) the primary IP of each server has the correct reverse DNS set there are only two disk partitions, root & Swap there is no custom software installed SSH is remotely accessible with the root user on port 22 All communication is possible over the external IP s (in case of NAT) Server and contact details Please enter your contact details as well as the details of your servers below. Please note, your cluster requires a minimum of 2 servers, but can also contain more than 4 servers. In that case, please submit the form multiple times.
