The document focuses on the essential firmware upgrades that are required for NComputing access devices in order to operate correctly with vspace Server 8.3. 1.2. Intended audience NComputing vspace Server administrators, vspace Management Center administrators, technical support engineers, system engineers. 1.3. Document history Document version Editing start date Release date 1.0 (VSS08020108MIG03) March 25, 2015 April 24, 2015 1.1 (VSS08030212MIG01) September 7, 2015 October 1, 2015 1.3.1. Change log Document version 1.0 Initial version of the document for vspace Server 8.2 and L-series 1.10 firmware. Document version 1.1 Document update for vspace Server 8.3 and L-series 1.11 firmware. 1.4. Glossary/Definitions vspace Server computer system running the NComputing vspace Server software. vspace Client computer system running the NComputing vspace Client software. Access Device hardware device containing an embedded version of vspace Client. L300, L350 or M300. L-series device an L300 or L350 Access Device. M-series device the M300 Access Device. NC-Console the integrated management console of vspace Server. Depending on installed vspace Server version the console can work in Management Server mode or Direct mode. vspace Management Center, VMC a device management system containing the Management Server component, database and a web-based management console.

Management Server core management component, contained in vspace Server 7.x and vspace Management Center, responsible for the management data administration and management communication between connected devices, servers and management consoles. Management Serve mode operation mode of the NC-Console in which the console acts as a frontend for the Management Server. In this mode all NC-Console s communication with the Access Devices goes through the Management Server. Only the NC-Console contained in vspace Server 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 and 8.1 can operate in Management Server mode, which is the default operation mode then. Direct mode operation mode of the NC-Console when the console directly communicates with the Access Devices. Direct mode is the default operation mode of NC-Console in vspace Server 6.6, 8.2 and 8.3. Boot Server for Miniterm service one of vspace Server s system components. The Boot Server for Miniterm service responds to server auto-discovery requests from vspace Clients. It is also responsible for delivering device firmware updates in local area networks. 1.5. How to use this document The Glossary/Definitions section contains definitions of the terms, which will be used in this document when describing actions necessary to perform software and firmware upgrades. The Common tasks section contains general information about frequently performed common management actions. The Upgrading the vspace Server software section contains information about upgrading any previously released vspace Server software version to version 8.3. The Migration scenarios section describes the order in which the software and firmware upgrade actions should be performed, depending on currently installed vspace Server software and device firmware versions. Performing the actions in the described order is crucial to successful migration. Important note: If you are about to upgrade the L300 access devices running the 1.8 or 1.9 firmware the instructions from appropriate sub-sections of the Migration scenarios chapter must be strictly followed. The L300 1.8 and 1.9 firmware needs to be upgraded prior to upgrading the vspace Server 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 or 8.1 software. Administrators should learn the definitions contained in the Glossary and make themselves familiar with the management actions described in the Common task section before proceeding with the software and firmware upgrades described in the Migration scenarios section. 1.6.
