TC23 Scope (still to be approved by SMB) To prepare standards for electrical accessories and home and building electronic systems for household and similar purposes, the word similar including locations such as offices, commercial and industrial premises, hospitals, public building, etc. These accessories: - are intended for fixed installation, or for use in or with appliances and other electrical or electronic equipment, and may include electronic components. - are normally installed by instructed or skilled persons and are normally used by ordinary persons. Include, in particular: - conduit systems - cable trunking systems - cable ducting systems - Cable tray systems and cable ladder systems -switches - HBES switches - HBE systems - plugs and socket-outlets - cable reels - adaptors -circuit it breakers for overcurrent protection ti - devices protecting against electric shock - arc Fault Detection Devices - contactors - connecting devices - enclosures for accessories - appliance couplers - cord sets Note 1) For the terms "instructed persons", "skilled persons", and "ordinary persons" see Publication IEC 61140; 3.30, 3.31 and 3.32.

TC and SCs Scope TC 23 Electrical accessories deals with horizontal issues such as - insulation coordination - temperatures, - general rules, - environmental aspects - energy efficiency aspects and some products, such as: - LVDC accessories - sound and signalling devices - Connecting devices, either as separate entities or as integral parts of an end product - installation couplers for permanent connection A new WG has been created to deal with HBES (2013) The standards with Group Safety Function status in question under TC 23 responsibility are IEC 60999-1 and IEC 61545.

TC and SCs Scope SC 23A Cable management systems deals with products such as -Conduit systems -Extra-heavy duty electrical rigid steel conduits, fittings and accessories -Cable trunking systems -Cable ducting systems -Cable tray systems -Cable ladder systems -Powertrack systems -Cable cleats -Cable ties -Articulated systems and flexible systems for cable guiding - Cable glands

TC and SCs Scope SC 23B Plugs, socket-outlets and switches (mechanical, electronic, HBES) Dimensional requirements for the world-wide wide plug and socket-outlet systems The 250V system The 125V system

TC and SCs Scope SC 23E Circuit-breakers and similar equipment for household use SC 23G Appliance couplers

TC and SCs Scope SC 23H Plugs and socketoutlets and couplers for industrial and similar applications, and for electric vehicles SC 23J Switches for appliances

TC and SCs Scope SC 23K Electrical Energy Efficiency Products - The subcommittee has been set up in 2012 in Oslo - A first meeting was held in New Delhi in October 2013 - A WG has been created - The main discussion topics are: - Load-shedding equipment (LSE) - Switch which control power sources - Conclusion: work can start Conclusion A homogeneous scope Different industries Different players Different business models Different clients Different experts with different expertise TC 23: management of SCs, less product oriented General rules Scope conflicts Strategic objectives

Recent achievements TC 23 Electrical ca accessories Creation of SC 23K on Energy Efficiency products (2012 Oslo) and the redefinition of TC 23 WG9 on Energy Efficiency Aspects in TC 23 (2013 New Delhi) Disbanding of SC 23C and SC 23F and the transfer of standards to appropriate committees (2013 by correspondence) Further update of the TR 61916 Harmonisation of General rules, e.g. Inclusion of material selection (MT11) The setting up of a WG to deal with safety, EMC and environmental issues for HBES (2013 New Delhi)

Recent achievements SC 23A: from component to system standardisation d sat SC 23B: Publication of the edition 3.2 of the IEC 60884-1 Publication of IEC60906-2, containing US P&S system Publication of the edition1 of IEC 60669-2-5 (HBES devices) SC 23E The new standard on AFDD (in US known as AFCI) has been published as IEC 62606. 606 SC23H Published and updated first standards for P&S and vehicle connectors for charging EV in mode 3

Future challenges TC 23 The further follow up of the action plan as defined in the TC 23 SBP on the global relevance of IEC TC 23 standards the analysis of the basic safety publications and comparison with relevant US publications (MT11) Further work on a TS for P&S for LVDC (WG8) Standardisation of HBE systems SC 23B US proposals related to products for significant markets as referred to in the action plan of the SBP of TC 23 AWG To deal with the interoperability of products in the scope of SC 23B and new light sources in the scope TC 34 SC 23B is dealing with HBES devices. There is a possible overlap with TC 72. The use of domestic P&S for EV charging

Future challenges SC 23E Work starts on requirements and tests for LVDC products IC CPD (In-cable control and protective device for mode 2 EV charging) SC 23G new edition and new format for the IEC 60320 TC 23 requested to analyse LVDC in the frame of SC 23G SC 23H Further work on P&S and vehicle connectors for charging EV in mode 3 and mode 4 Plugs, socket-outlets outlets and ship couplers for high-voltage shore connection systems (HVSC-systems)

Future challenges SC 23J SC 23J switches for appliances for LVDC IEC61058-1switches for appliances is being splits in 3 parts Part 1: General requirements Part 1-1: Requirements for mechanical switch constructions Part 1-2: Requirements for electronic switch constructions SC 23K To get the working group in place To get the work started To interact with other committees/wgs/mts/pts on the same subject in order to avoid overlap and double work
