Role of ERTICO ITS Europe 6

ERTICO Mission The ERTICO Public-Private partnership brings Intelligence into Mobility for all travellers and businesses by: Promoting ITS deployment Promoting connections with all modes of transport Being the reference for ITS in Europe Cooperating with all stakeholders 7

ERTICO Facts & Figures» Founded in 1991» Over 100 Partners of which 33 Public Authorities» Team of 40 professionals in Brussels» Network of more than 30 ITS Nationals» Export EU ITS know-how across 4 continents» Annual budget 4.5m» European Union financial contribution 75m» Organiser of the ITS world and European congresses (Dublin 4-6 June; Tokyo 14-18 Oct) 8

Role of Maps in ITS from an automotive point of view 9

The ITS map data chain Benefits of enhanced maps for ITS applications Mechanisms to bring map updates faster to clients Definition of map content for safety applications Public Authorities Map provider Automotive maps In-Vehicle Map In-vehicle map interface to ADAS functions Link map information from Public Authorities TN-ITS Mechanisms to correct maps by clients Mechanisms to detect map deviations by clients 10

Data sources for safety attributes TN-ITS Paper/ files Electronic/ Spread sheet GIS-platforms (part of map data) Business system (not integrated) National/regional integrated databases (different organisations) The Target!! 25

The ROSATTE chain of value 26

Output of ROSATTE project» Complete framework to facilitate access, exchange and maintenance of spatial data from public sources including: multi-level national/regional/local aggregation Incremental updates of map data» Technical & organisational guidelines» Aligned with INSPIRE» Commitment for deployment 27

TN-ITS 28

During this time in Brussels 29

No driver quite like the ITS Directive! Optimal Use of Road, Traffic and Travel Data Road Safety and Security Continuity of Traffic and Freight Management Integration of Vehicle and Transport Infrastructure Data Protection and Liability European ITS Coordination

ITS Directive Area 1 Optimal Use of Road, Traffic and Travel Data 1. EU-wide real time travel information (public and private roles) 2. Collection and provision of road data 3. Accurate public data for digital maps 4. Free minimum information service 5. Promotion of multi-modal journey planners Recommendations: ROSATTE and INSPIRE Specification, organisation and framework TN-ITS Specification 31

Differences! ITS Directive/ROSATTE and INSPIRE:» Private/public owned data: IPR issues needs to be handled» Linear and location based referencing systems» Quality control» Maintenance of data» Feed back loop Still alignment is desirable! TN-ITS deployment platform (SDIC) to propose TN-ITS specifications as an extension to the TN specification

Conclusions» New TN-ITS specifications should extend the TN specifications to answer the needs of the ITS industry» The mapping industry is mostly interested in changes rather than full set of data» Leaving the mapping to the industry is not sustainable in the long term» Mapping industry is interest to collaborated if the Public Authorities accept to notify new changes» ITS map data is a must to increase road safety and sustainability

Thank you Maxime Flament, ERTICO ITS Europe m.flament@mail.ertico.com 38
