www.infres.eu TCS An operational system for control and optimization of forest biomass logistics Matti Tuukkanen, ECOMOND Ltd Antti Asikainen, Metla FEC-FORMEC-2014 September 23-26, 2014 Gerardmer, FRANCE
Ecomond in a nutshell Finnish Software Company specialized in Electronic Task Management and Optimisation solution called TCS Established 2002 Located in Kuopio, Eastern Finland Employing 15-20 persons Turnover ~1 M The solution is a non-industry specific and used from Logistics to Services and from Waste Management to Forest Bio Energy Very good reference list in Nordics and Baltic Countries with companies like Lindstron Textile SITA Finland Anticimex City of Gothenburg Waste Management Lassila & Tikanoja 2
TCS Solution TCS is a full Transport Management and Optimisation solution. The main components are described above. 3
System overview 4
Milk Round vs Forest Logistics 5 Milk round Typical optimisation case with same start and stop point Constraints like priority, time windows and capacity One route/vehicle, timespan typically one day Many different commercial solutions available Never ending Start of next route is end of previous route 24/7 No fixed routes Demand set by volumes to be delivered, pick up location quantities and qualities (pulling) Not a standard solution
Parameters TCS OPTI has various types of calculations and also parameters. For forest bio energy the most common ones are: Customer specific information like monthly, weekly or daily volumes and qualities to be delivered. Opening hours and number of trucks/hour allowed Storage specific information like cutting date, quality and volume. Location specific like crane, shredder, land type etc Resource specific information like size of truck and available hours and special equipment. Shift/driving hours are also taken into account 6
Results on Map 7 Individual tasklist for every truck Routes on map. Different routes with different colour Results for comparison of different simulations and KPI s
TCS OPERATIONS TCS MOBILE User Interface for the drivers All information to/from driver which are related to tasks Navigation on Map Internal tasks for deviations management TCS OFFICE ERP for Operations management All information about customers, resources, tasks and also prices Internal task management for exceptions management GIS and Map-based system Integrations to other systems 8
Benefits in Forest Logistics Fully transparent control of logistics Always OPTImal results in Strategic, tactical and operational level Improving efficiency by 10-30% because of Better control and correct information to all Less time for planning -90% and always optimal Less manual work in the office Utilisation of the vehicles goes up, no local knowledge needed Better quality when shorter supply chain Sales support when calculating quotations 9
