What is Aconex Local Copy? Aconex Local Copy provides you with a local read-only copy of up-to-date project data during the life of your project. It is similar in appearance and function to working with your project in Aconex. You can: Search for documents and mail with standard Aconex search capability. Export search results to Microsoft Excel for reporting. View all of your documents, including mark-ups and document history. View the event log for every document. View sent or received mail, including transmittals and associated attachments. Easily open and save mail attachments. Access full mail thread information. Print mails. Aconex Local Copy has two components: Local Copy Manager a browser-based management tool for system administrators for creating, and managing: o Jobs these specify the details of a datastore, such as the Aconex instance, the project, and the update schedule. o Datastores are a folder structure and database that contains all of the data files for your local copy of a project s data for the specified Aconex user. Local Copy Viewer a browser-based viewer for users for viewing and reporting on the information in a Local Copy datastore. Tip: Aconex Local Copy users will need the viewer URL to access and open a datastore. If you choose to password protect a datastore, you ll also need to give this password to your users. Controlling Access to a Datastore If required, you can use the Aconex Local Copy Manager to set a password for an Aconex Local Copy datastore. Refer to Local Copy Administrator Guide. Hardware Requirements To install Aconex Local Copy you ll need a computer that meets these minimum requirements: 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium Processor (or equivalent). 1GB of system memory (2GB recommended). At least 1 GB free disk space for Aconex Local Copy installation. At least 2 GB free disk space for each Local Copy datastore. Note: The actual space required depends upon the quantity of project data expected in the datastore over the life of the project(s). Discuss this with your Aconex representative. The Aconex Local Copy installer checks that there is sufficient system memory and disk space before beginning the installation. Software Requirements To install Aconex Local Copy you ll need: A computer running one of the following operating systems: o Microsoft Windows XP SP2/SP3 or later. o Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or later. o Fedora Core 10.0 or later. o MacOS or later. Mozilla Firefox 3.5, Safari 3, or Internet Explorer 7 (or later) set as your default browser. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 5 or later. TCP/IP port 9000 free for Apache Tomcat service. TCP/IP port 3306 free for MySQL service. Installing Aconex Local Copy Tip: This guide describes the Aconex Local Copy installation procedure for Windows 7. The installation procedure on other operating systems has only minor differences. 1. Follow the steps below for your operating system. Operating System Action Microsoft Windows Fedora Core Mac OS a. In Windows Explorer, browse to the Local Copy Installer folder. b. Double-click on Aconex Local Copy Install for Windows.bat. a. At the command prompt, change to the Local Copy Installer directory. b. At the command prompt, type./ Aconex Local Copy Install for Mac and Linux.sh c. Press Enter. a. Open Terminal. b. At the command prompt, change to the Local Copy Installer directory. c. At the command prompt, type./ Aconex Local Copy Install for Mac and Linux.sh d. Press Enter. e. Close Terminal. 2. 5. Specify the installation location. You can: Accept the default location, or Choose a different location as follows: a. Click the Browse button b. Select the location where you want to install Aconex Local Copy. c. Click the Open button. Tip: The installer will create a Local Copy folder in the selected location. 6. Click the Next button. 7. If you don t want to receive notification emails from Aconex Local Copy, go to step 12. 8. Complete the email account details as follows: Field Action E-mail address Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) Server Port Figure 3 - Installation location Enter the email address you want notifications to be sent to. Enter the name of your outgoing mail server. Enter the port number used by your outgoing mail server. 9. If your email server requires authentication, select the Server requires authentication check box, and complete the authentication details as follows: Field Action Account Name Password Enter the account name for authentication. Encrypt Using Choose the encryption protocol your mail system uses. 10. Click the Test Email Account Settings button. 11. Click the OK button in the connection confirmation message. 12. Click the Next button. 13. Click the Next button to install the listed software packages. Figure 4 - Complete and test email account information Tip: If a Windows Security Alert message from Windows Firewall appears during the installation, click the Allow access button to continue. Figure 5 - Software package details 14. Click the Next button when the package installation is complete. Tip: Steps 15 and 16 only apply if you re installing Local Copy under Microsoft Windows. 15. If you don t want to create Local Copy shortcuts on the: Start Menu deselect the Create shortcuts in the Start-Menu checkbox. Desktop deselect the Create shortcuts on the desktop checkbox. Troubleshooting your Installation Port 9000 and/or Port 3306 Busy If your computer is running a service that is using TCP/IP port 9000 or TCP/IP port 3306, you ll need to shut down the service, and begin the Aconex Local Copy installation again. Current Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Not Supported Your computer must have JRE version 5 or later installed to be able to install Aconex Local Copy. You ll need to install the latest JRE and begin the Aconex Local Copy installation again. Managing the Local Copy Service Starting the Local Copy Service You can restart the Local Copy Service if it has been stopped; for example, due to a server restart. Follow the steps below for your operating system. Operating System Action Microsoft Windows From the Start Menu menu, click All Programs > Aconex > Local Copy > Administration > Start Local Copy Service. Fedora Core Mac OS a. At the command prompt, type: localcopy start b. Press Enter. a. Open Terminal. b. At the command prompt, type: localcopy start c. Press Enter. d. Close Terminal. Stopping the Local Copy Service You can stop the Local Copy Service if required. Follow the steps below for your operating system.
