CLINICA HILDEBRAND CENTRO DI RIABILITAZIONE BRISSAGO The Clinica Hildebrand Centro di riabilitazione Brissago is one of the most important and renowned centers specialized in rehabilitation in Switzerland. Our Institute is very well known for its modern, innovative and extremely well-equipped infrastructure, supporting universally recognized therapeutic methods. The Clinica Hildebrand offers a broad range of services, ranging from neurology to physiatry, from rheumatology to internal medicine and geriatric medicine. The Clinic guarantees that its patients will benefit from interdisciplinary assistance aimed at a total recovery of the full range of function and reinsertion into the patient s social and professional life. The highest possible standard of care is guaranteed by the daily rounds made by the physicians, by the therapies carried out by our qualified staff, including additional assistance made available throughout the day and night by a team of highly experienced doctors and nurses who are specialized in rehabilitation. Specialist opinions are available to all thanks to our highly efficient medical service. The Clinica Hildebrand works closely with a nearby acute hospital, the Ospedale Regionale di Locarno, thus assuring optimum care even in the case of emergencies. The only patients admitted into our Center of rehabilitation are patients that have been referred by a hospital or by a primary care physician. The Clinica Hildebrand has been recognized as a rehabilitation center by the health insurers and by other insurers, accepting insured patients into the common ward or in semi private or private wards. Interdisciplinary assistance aimed at a total recovery of the full range of function and reinsertion into the social and professional life 5

Day hospital This is a type of hospitalization where the patient does not sleep overnight in the clinic. Day hospital is for patients who must follow intense rehabilitation routines without needing round-the-clock medical and nursing care. The programs provide multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care. The Clinica Hildebrand has a day hospital, where patients are hospitalized for the day in single rooms and have access to the infrastructures and specialized skills available at the Hildebrand. The Day hospital is open from 8 am to noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm from Monday to Friday (except for holidays). Intense rehabilitation routines for patients who don t need round-the-clock medical and nursing care 7

Infrastructure The Clinic s patients have access to private single rooms with a toilet and a shower; semiprivate double rooms with a toilet and a shower; shared rooms, most of which have a toilet and a shower. In terms of room assignments, the Clinic takes into account not only the insurance status of the patient but also the patient s health status. If the patient has been assigned a shared or semiprivate room, the patient can always ask to be placed in a private room. Should the patient ask for a private room and the costs are not covered by the health insurer, all extra expenses will be covered by the patient himself. That being the case, the patient will be asked for a deposit and will have to sign a guarantee. In the Clinic, each patient has access to a upto-date multimedia monitor. It provides every possible form of communication and entertainment available (TV, phone service, radio, internet, games, video on demand, etc.), plus a series of computer services for both patients and medical staff. Most rooms have an incredible view of Lago Maggiore, the Brissago islands and the surrounding mountains. There is a 360 view from Cannobio to Luino, small Italian cities noted for their markets, and includes the magnificent gulf of Ascona and the Gambarogno coast. Each bed of the Clinic is equipped with a up-to-date multimedia monitor for therapeutic and entertainment purposes 9

The main meals are served in the restaurant on the top floor of our institute. We feel that this possibility of eating meals in a magnificent room with an incredible view, together with the other guests, is a real treat, and helps with rehabilitation. The cafeteria is on the ground floor of the Clinic. The cafeteria has a vast array of drinks and snack available. During the summer, the cafeteria also operates in the park in front of the cafeteria and on the terrace on the second floor of the Clinic. All areas of the Clinic are wheelchair-accessible. All therapeutic areas, including the swimming pool, which was recently completely restructured, are in the main body of the Clinic. All therapeutic areas are fully equipped and meeting the highest standards of quality. The extensive park is not only an oasis of relaxation but it is also a magnificent place to organize variable terrain therapy. The Clinic does have a limited number of parking slots right next to the main entrance. A number of public pay parking spaces are available in nearby areas. 10 All therapeutic areas are fully equipped and meeting the highest standards of quality

Therapies Ergotherapy physical therapy aimed at recovery of basic activities of daily life by means of understanding, assessing, prescribing and assisting in the use of auxiliary devices. Neuropsychology diagnosis and therapy of cognitive disorders (such as, for example, memory disorders, attention deficits, etc.) and behavioural disorders (such as, for example, lack of impulse control, aphaty, etc.), associated with a number of neurological pathologies. The neuropsychologists also offer psychological support to patients undergoing difficulties that might arise during the course of rehabilitation. Physical therapy uses specific methods and concepts in individual and group therapy aimed at function recovery of movement in the most complete sense of the term. Rehabilitation treatments a staple of the nursing service, they are an integral part of rehabilitation care, with specialized staff, tailored to the individual needs of the patient. Robotics our clinic is one of the very few avant-guard clinics to offer not only classical individual physical therapy, but we are pleased to say that we can also offer high-tech support, such as, for example, the Lokomat and the Erigo machines, aimed at achieving further improvement in rehabilitation therapy. 15

Speech therapy assessment of and treatment of disorders of communication, language, voice articulation, including disorders of face sensitivity and motor control. Swallow therapy swallow therapy is the assessment and treatment of swallowing problems. The problem is analyzed specifically and treated during supervised meals. Visual Re-education Integrated rehabilitation of visual disorders and acquired neurogenic disorders of ocular motricity. Water therapy for patients who have been prescribed water therapy by their physicians. Partners Our clinic cooperates with a number of institutes in order to ensure that all patients receive the very best and most appropriate and integrated care, in accordance with the most up-to-date rehabilitation models. Specifically, we work closely with the hospitals belonging to the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (www.eoc.ch), especially with the nearby Ospedale Regionale di Locarno La Carità and the Neurocentro della Svizzera italiana, which readily accepts our patients should their health condition require it. The Clinic is proud of its scientific and educational collaboration with the Centro di riabilitazione neurocognitiva Villa Miari di Santorso (www.villamiari.it). 18 Cooperations and alliances with a number of institutes in order to ensure the care in accordance with the most up-to-date rehabilitation models

Our partnership with the Regional Hospital of Locarno, La Carità For patients with intensive care needs, the Hildebrand Clinic works in partnership with the Regional Hospital of Locarno, La Carità. La Carità is a public hospital with 165 beds and is part of the Cantonal Hospital Authority. The hospital offers all major medical and surgical specialties. La Carità, the Regional Hospital of Locarno, offers top-level medical services to its patients, covering all major medical, surgical and emergency care needs 19

The Hospital also offers an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 7 beds. The ICU has a highly specialized team of physicians and nurses caring for fragile and vulnerable patients who, given the instability of their vital functions, require round-the-clock monitoring and care. The team has a multidisciplinary and integrated approach and makes full use of the medical specialists in the Hospital. Intensive rehabilitation care is guaranteed by the medical staff of our clinic. Visiting hours are scheduled around the care needs of patients. Visiting hours are between 2 and 8 pm. If patients are unstable the visiting hours can be easily modified. The nursing staff and physicians in the Intensive Care Unit can be reached by telephone 24/7. We strongly encourage meetings between the families of patients and the medical staff in order to keep families informed about the status of their loved ones. In the case of patients no longer capable of expressing their wishes, we also encourage meetings to discuss information relating to any desires patients might have expressed or instructions established beforehand. 20 The La Carità Hospital s Intensive Care Unit guarantees round-the-clock monitoring and care to patients who require it

The REHA TICINO network Working closely with the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale has given rise to the REHA TICINO network (www.rehaticino.ch). Besides our institute, which is specialized in neurological, geriatric and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, the network also comprises the Clinica di riabilitazione di Novaggio and the rehabilitation services of the Ospedale regionale di Bellinzona e Valli. Thus, the members of the network, each within its area of specialization, contribute in a synergistic fashion to working together, to keeping down costs thanks to the effects of economies of scale, to introducing standardized therapeutic protocols and to fostering cooperation and exchange of information between the rehabilitation sector and the acute sector. Using synergy of various types of rehabilitation and promoting the cooperation between the rehabilitation sector and the acute sector 21

The administrative office staff is always available to answer any questions with regard to the amount of the deposit. The bill for the stay in the Clinic will either be handed directly to the patient or forwarded to his home address. Patients who do have a Swiss medical insurance policy will have their bills forwarded directly to the health insurer, a copy of which will be given to the patient. 22
