The needs for Digitization 1. To preserve significant academic and intellectual journals where electronic version is not yet available. 2. To provide online easy access for the community, especially for the academic community. 3. To preserve for infinite future use.
Technical Model for the E-Journal Initiatives Establish the file format and software Specify the archival repository Establish hardware infrastructure Investigate the needs for redundancy Provision of management and usage reports
Management & Policy Matters Identify and contact publishers Negotiate terms and solve copyright issues Plan for future growth and acquisitions Develop economic models to ensure longterm sustainability of the Initiatives, such as membership model, subscription model, payper-view model, pay-per-download model, etc. Monitor new standards, seek collaborations
Availability of Content Use standard file format Image file use TIFF for archival purposes PDF file for ease of access Use standard XML file formats
Availability of Content Use standard operating systems & browser for easy delivery Added security: backup regimes, redundant servers, etc. Available 24 x 7
