SUMMARY ACCREDITATION REPORT HONG KONG INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY LEARNING PROGRAMME RE-ACCREDITATION ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF ARTS AND ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION JUNE 2015

This accreditation report is issued by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) in its capacity as the Accreditation Authority as provided for under the Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications Ordinance (Cap 592) (AAVQO). This report outlines the HKCAAVQ s determination, the validity period of the determination as well as any conditions or restrictions on the determination. 1. Introduction 1.1 Hong Kong Institute of Technology (the Institute) (formerly named as the College of Info-Tech before 2003) was set up by a non-profit making organisation International Education and Academic Exchanges Foundation Company Limited (IEAEF) formed by Media Education Info-Tech. Hong Kong Institute of Technology is the business name of IEAEF. 1.2 At present, the Institute offers 11 accredited programmes. Six local certificate, diploma and associate degree programmes lead to awards of the Institute. Five non-local bachelor degree programmes are jointly offered with overseas partner leading to awards of an overseas institution. 1.3 Based on the service agreement, HKCAAVQ was commissioned by the Institute to conduct a combined learning programme reaccreditation exercise with the following Terms of Reference: (a) To determine whether the Associate Degree of Science and Technology programme, the Associate Degree of Arts programme and the Associate Degree of Business Administration programme of Hong Kong Institute of Technology meet the stated objectives and Qualifications Framework (QF) standard and can continue to be offered as accredited programmes from 2015/16 academic year; and (b) To issue to Hong Kong Institute of Technology an accreditation report setting out HKCAAVQ s determination in relation to (a) above. 1.4 A site visit took place on 29-30 April 2015. The Institute is to submit to HKCAAVQ a report showing fulfilment of the above requirement on or before 30 September 2016. Associate Degree of Science and Technology (b) The Institute is to provide evidence to demonstrate that (a) the potential teaching staff members of the engineering modules are in post, and (b) the equipment shown in the procurement list is available in the campus for students use. The Institute is to submit to HKCAAVQ a report showing fulfilment of the above requirement on or before 31 December 2015. HKCAAVQ 2015 3

2.1.2 Recommendations (a) The Institute should use plagiarism detection software to help teaching staff identify suspicious cases. (b) The Institute should train up sufficient teaching staff members to share the workload with Programme Leaders in providing academic advice to students. (c) The Institute should appoint more External Examiners with the relevant expertise to share out the workload. (d) The Institute should, as part of its academic advising activities, provide the students with all necessary information of Workplace Experience to facilitate students to make an informed decision. 3. Programme Details The following programme information is provided by the Operator. 3.1 Programme Objectives The generic programme objective is to enable students to graduate with the requisite skills, knowledge and attitude to succeed in their chosen careers, to make a worthwhile contribution to society and their profession, and at the same time, for deserving candidates to carve for themselves a pathway to climb the ladder of higher education through articulating to degree programmes. 3.2 Programme Intended Learning Outcomes Associate Degree of Science and Technology Demonstrate an understanding that computing and information technology is composed of various subject disciplines, and able to compare and contrast different theories and models in the computing and information technology; Apply knowledge and theories in science and technology discipline to build sound and rigorous conceptual frameworks for problemsolving and processing; HKCAAVQ 2015 4

Demonstrate the ability to reach independent conclusions and able to evaluate their validity and to implement them for vocational and academic purposes; Demonstrate the ability to think creatively but logically and to communicate their ideas coherently and confidently; Demonstrate competence in modern communication techniques; Understand the influence of science and technology to the social, economic and professional environment in which they will take their place; Show interests and competencies in learning latest knowledge in science and technology; Use problem-solving and decision-making skills in the studies of science and technology; and Confide in the knowledge and skills developed in science and technology, and to relate and extend the knowledge and skills to other academic subjects beyond science and technology. Completion of Yi Jin Diploma; or Equivalent of the above qualifications; or Aged 21 or above on 1 January of the intended year of entry. For non-chinese-speaking students, alternative Chinese qualifications are accepted for students who have met one of the following conditions: Students who have learned Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education; or Students who have learned Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum, or other Foreign Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools. Year Two Entry Completion of a recognised Certificate / Diploma programme; or Equivalent qualifications. 4. Substantial Change 4.1 Maintenance of the HKCAAVQ accreditation status during the validity period is subject to no substantial change being made without prior approval from HKCAAVQ. 5. Qualifications Register 5.1 Qualifications accredited by HKCAAVQ are eligible for entry into the Qualifications Register (QR) at http://www.hkqr.gov.hk for recognition under the Qualifications Framework (QF). The Operator should apply separately to have their quality-assured qualifications entered into the QR. 5.2 Only learners who are admitted to the named accredited learning programme during the validity period and who have graduated with the named qualification uploaded in the QR will be considered to have acquired a qualification recognised under the QF.
