Participants in the program participate in individual counseling and some also participate in group therapy services. Description: Administered assessments measuring feelings of alienation to female first time offenders in a juvenile facility. 1998-1999 Honors Research University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of Psychology Supervisor: Carol Pilgrim, Ph.D. Description: Focused on the acquisition of arbitrary relations and the emergence of stimulus equivalence following either thematic training or stimulus-control shaping. A matched-to-sample procedure was used to train two conditional relations, which resulted in the emergence of a third relation without training (e.g. if A=B and B=C, then A=C). Two procedures were used to assist the training process. The first method was called thematic training and consisted of training an individual to match physically dissimilar stimuli based on common category membership (e.g. boat and car are both modes of transportation). The second training method was stimulus-control shaping and involved initially matching two identical shapes. The comparison stimulus was then altered over a series of fifteen steps into the desired response stimulus.
