Poster Presentations Veronica Allan Theresa Beesley Mathieu Bélanger Hope Bilinski Martin Camiré Exploring experiences of quality participation across the sport involvement timelines of individuals with physical disabilities: A proposed study Grappling for Answers: Exploring the process of psychosocial skills development in youth mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes Veronica Allan Queen s University In this study, current and former athletes with physical disabilities will construct a timeline of their sport involvement and participate in interviews to explore the factors that influence quality (i.e., full and meaningful) participation in sport. Theresa Beesley School of Kinesiology and Health Science York University Understanding the benefits, processes and mechanisms of positive youth development and life skills transfer in mixed martial arts athletes. Results after 4 years of the MATCH study Rural Children and their Communities Leading the Way Toward the Enhancement of Sports and Recreation Mathieu Bélanger, PhD Université de Sherbrooke; Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau Brunswick Some new results : Teens are more likely to participate in sports if parents are supportive, but not controlling. Living in rural neighbourhoods (vs urban) is linked to greater maintenance of sport participation. As feelings of competence, autonomy, and relatedness in sports increase, so does participation. Dr. Hope Bilinski Assistant Dean College of Nursing University of Saskatchewan The purpose of this study is to engage preadolescent children (grades 4 6) from rural communities in the development of relevant and meaningful research questions for exploring their participation and commitment to sports and other recreational activities. 1
