HOW TO CREATE A SYSTEM To get started, simply name your system and then pick a sport, line type, and event type. Once you have named your system, you can start adding filters to hone in on your winning betting system. There are over 100 filters grouped together in the following categories. EXAMPLE SYSTEM 1: NBA VISITORS ON AN ATS LOSING STREAK BACKGROUND The original hypothesis for this system was to look at NBA teams coming off of an ATS (against the spread) loss streak. We theorized that after a team lost one or more games against the spread, their line would shift due to public perception. After looking at the data, we noticed that this was especially true for road dogs. FILTERS USED This system uses four filters: Pre/Post Season, Home/Visitor, Favorite/Dog, Previous Game Favorite/Dog, and ATS Streak. For Season Type, it is defaulted to Regular season. This ensures that we are not looking at any preseason or postseason games. We originally selected the ATS streak to show a losing streak of 1-5 games. We then noticed that visitors were more profitable than home teams, and secondly, that visiting dogs were more profitable than visiting favorites. We then looked to see if the team was a favorite or dog in their previous game to look at teams that were unable to cover the spread their latest game as an underdog. We then went back to our ATS streak filter to see if there was a better range of losing streaks to look at (Remember we originally guessed 1-5 games). The results we saw appear to the left. As you can see, the filter easily lets you see which ATS Streak are profitable and which streaks have cost bettors money in this particular scenario. The positive numbers indicate a winning ATS streak, with the negative numbers indicate a losing streak. For this sytem, we decided to include one, two, and three game losing streaks. All three of these scenarios provide a winning record and provide enough of a sample size to feel confident in the past results. Bet Labs Basketball Betting Guide SportsInsights.com Page 3
EXAMPLE SYSTEM 1: NBA VISITORS ON AN ATS LOSING STREAK ANALYSIS The overall record for this betting system is 901-740 at the time of publication. That is a 54.9% win rate and a 7.3% return on investment (ROI). The ROI isn t as high as some of our other systems, but there is a high volume of plays each season (averages 205 plays per season). As the number of plays increase, the harder it is to maintain a high return on investment. This is a system where we are taking advantage of the perception of public bettors. Home court advantage is commonly overrated, and looking at underdog teams that have been unable to cover the spread is a good situation to take advantage of sportsbook shading. Using these factors, we were able to create a profitable system that has also shown great consistency as it has been profitable for eight straight NBA seasons. EXAMPLE SYSTEM 2: NCAA UNDER THE RADAR CONFERENCE GAMES BACKGROUND The original idea for this system was to look at games that might be overlooked by the majority of the public. We wanted to focus on games that won t be on television and are often dismissed as potential betting opportunites. FILTERS USED We are now looking at a moneyline system rather than a spread system. All of the results will be based on the moneyline results rather than if the team was able to cover the point spread. This system uses six filters: Season Type, Number of Bets Compared to Daily Avg, Conference/Non-Conference, Home/Visitor, Spread Range, and Day of Week. The easiest way to look at under the radar games is to use the Number of Bets filter. This filter uses a ratio to compare games on the same day within the same sport. A value of 1 indicates the game had an average of number of bets. A value of 2 indicates the game had two times the average number of bets. For this system, we are looking at games that had less than the average number of bets for that day s games. We then looked at conference games in which both teams would be more familiar with each other (you know, prior to all of the realignment issues). We then looked to see if there was a discernible difference between home teams and visitors (shown below). Bet Labs Basketball Betting Guide SportsInsights.com Page 5
EXAMPLE SYSTEM 2: NCAA UNDER THE RADAR CONFERENCE GAMES As you can see, visitors were clearly more profitable than home teams. This is a great example of how Bet Labs easily shows you a clear divide and can help you make easy decisions in refining your systems. The next step was to look at a certain spread range. We originally thought that we would go with dogs of ten or more. When we used the spread range filter, it showed that seven was a better number to start with. Finally we looked at the day of the week. If you are looking for college games that are going to be hidden then the best day of the week for that scenario would be on a Saturday. Below is our final results for this system: ANALYSIS When compared to the earlier image, the Money Won actually declined but the win percentage increased by three percent and the ROI increased by six percent. Although you are sacrificing some money won, the goal of any moneymaking endeavor should be to find value while also minimizing your risk. This system highlights the fact that you don t have to bet on the biggest games of the day to find value. With this system, you will be betting on games in the WAC, Ivy League, CAA, and other lesser-known conferences. Bet Labs Basketball Betting Guide SportsInsights.com Page 4
EXAMPLE SYSTEM 3: TEAMS TIED FOR NBA DAY GAMES BACKGROUND The majority of NBA games are played at night. On weekends and holidays, NBA teams will play earlier than what they are used to. We wanted to look at these games and see how they affected the totals. We had no initial hypothesis to whether this would be better for Overs or Unders. FILTERS USED We looked at both Regular Season and Postseason games for this analysis. We then set the time between 12 and 16. This filter uses military time, so we are looking at any game played between Noon and 4:59 PM ET. We then looked to see if Overs or Unders benefitted from these day games: Taking the under for every day game in the NBA has been clearly profitable. EXAMPLE SYSTEM 3: TEAMS TIED FOR NBA DAY GAMES ANALYSIS This system is the simplest of the three examples. It only uses three filters but a system doesn t have to be complex in order to be valuable. The games are out of the ordinary for players that are used to a routine. Whether they are skipping the pregame shootaround or their legs are simply tired from the night before, the scoring just isn t there for the matinee NBA games.
