Sipai Klein, Ph.D. http://www.sipaiklein.com EDUCATION PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication, May 2011 New Mexico State University Primary Areas: Educational Technology, Multimodal Composition, Digital Rhetoric MA in English Literature with a Concentration in Creative Writing, 2004 The City College of New York, CUNY, NY Primary Areas: Modern Poetry Master s Thesis: The Braided Knot Advisor: Marilyn Hacker BA in Physics, 2002 Yeshiva University, NY Primary Areas: Theoretical and Computational Physics Graduate of Biosphere 2 Center, 2001 Columbia University, Oracle, AZ Primary Area: Astrophysics Research DISSERTATION Title: Digital Architectonics: A Case Study of Educator Designed Multimodal Texts Advisor: Dr. Jennifer Sheppard (Chair) Committee: Dr. Christopher Burnham and Dr. Patti Wojahn Abstract: This dissertation examines the composition process of three experienced professors who spent a semester designing videos for their courses. With the advent of media authoring technologies in academic contexts, this study aimed to better understand the possibilities and practicalities of adapting these technologies for educational purposes. Findings reveal that in these new situations educators make decisions that extend traditional assumptions of print-text production to include multiple modes of communication in effort to create new educational contexts. 1
