Renewable energy in hospitals

Company history Wachelka INERGIS S.A. specialises in a range of renewable energy sources: geothermal energy passive cold from heat pumps solar energy biomass energy cogeneration (CHP) trigeneration (CCHP) based on absorption and adsorption units photovoltaic installations. Our company is among the few that offer such a scope of works and can successfully compete with similar European and international companies.

Operating range Besides RES services, we also offer: design services new heating technologies control and measurement instruments and automation, ventilation and air-conditioning systems engineering works industrial installations installation supplies (wholesale) maintanance of heating, air-conditioning, cooling and ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment thermomodernisation.

Ecological solutions for hospitals combustion of biomass improves the facility s energy efficiency, CHP and CCHP solutions that bring substantial savings in operating costs, esp. when fixed and sustainable electric energy, and demand for heat and cooling are considered. Not only do all of these innovative solutions bring substantial savings in operating costs, but they also bring environmentally friendly results through reduction of CO 2 and other air pollutant emissions, which has become a necessity.

Ecological solutions for hospitals All solutions in Renawable Environmentally-Friendly Energy Sources are especially fit for hospitals and other health care units. solar installations because of the huge demand for energy to produce hot service water reduction of operating costs photovoltaic installations use of solar energy to produce electric energy heat pumps heating and passive cooling with floor installation that allows: - reduction of heating and cooling costs, - substantial elimination of air-conditioning using ice water, which has adverse effects on human health, - comfort in keeping hospital rooms clean.

Office-laboratory-training building (seat of Wachelka INERGIS S.A.) Service nominated for Polish Promotional Emblem Teraz Polska "Jurajski Produkt Roku 2009 prize The building was designed and constructed using up-to-date technologies in RES (Renewable Energy Sources). It is one of a few such innovative facilities in Poland and Europe.

Office-laboratory-training building (seat of Wachelka INERGIS S.A.) Technologies used innovative heating and passive cooling system (heat pump using 1000 m2 floor installation) system of supply-exhaust ventilation with heat and cold recovery air-conditioning installation (ice water) solar panels, facade shutters with automatic lamel angle control building access control on-line system of metering and monitoring with an optional remote control of working parametres of CH, ACV, and passive cooling systems. Completion: 2008-2009

Heating system in the seat of Wachelka INERGIS S.A. Thanks to on-line monitoring we can monitor: heat consumption, efficiency of recovery from the air-handling unit, amount of heat from the solar system, heat pump work (temperature analysis of the lower heat source).

Temperature analysis of the lower heat source On-line system of metering and monitoring enables quick and precise preparation of various statistics, e.g. temperature analysis of the lower energy source, showed in the chart above (as of February 2011).

Szpital Specjalistyczny im. NMP (Our Lady Specialist Hospital) in Częstochowa The largest single system of solar panels in Poland, and one of largest installations of the type in Europe with total surface of 1495m 2. Some of the 598 flat-plate solar collectors are installed on the roofs of hospital facilities, others on special structures. Completion: 2006-2007

Szpital Specjalistyczny im. NMP (Our Lady Specialist Hospital) in Częstochowa The project Construction of solar collection system and flue gas economisers in the existing hospital heating system included: construction of a solar system based on: 148 solar collectors installed on supporting constructions on rooftops 276 and 148 solar collectors installed on load-bearing free-standing structures outside preparation of solar exchange technology based on: three balancing tanks with capacity of 20,000 dm 3 each a tank for hot service water with capacity of 10,000 dm 3 plate exchangers electrical system, Measurement Instruments and Automation for solar heat exchanger room based on programmable ogic controller and monitoring of operation parametres of the solar system modernisation of boiler by installing two 250 kw flue gas economisers on existing steam boilers (total power installed in the boiler room: 13.6 MW: two water boilers and two steam boilers, made by Wachelka INERGIS company in 1996),

Szpital Specjalistyczny im. NMP (Our Lady Specialist Hospital) in Częstochowa installation of a network of heat distribution and pre-insulated pipes connecting the solar system with exchange system: pipe heat distribution network with total lenght of 940m pre-insulatied network with joint total of 245 m modernisation of steam boiler exhaust system, adaptation of the waste incinerator building to suit the exchange needs of the solar system. During average 24-hour period, the Hospital in Częstochowa consumes ca. 54 m 3 of hot water (data from 2007). Thanks to the installation of the solar system, which replaced the gas installation for heating service water, the hospital saves annually ca PLN 300,000.

Szpital Specjalistyczny im. NMP (Our Lady Specialist Hospital) in Częstochowa Solar panels are accompanied by a device called flue gas economiser it consumes and recovers a share of flue gas thermal energy (there is a gas steam-water boiler room operating in the hospital, which is used to heat rooms and for technological needs). On sunny days, the solar system and economisers heat the hospital s whole water supply. With minimum insolation, efficiency reaches ca 84%.

Szpital Powiatowy im. bł. Marty Wieckiej (county hospital) in Bochnia Complex heat source modernisation planned in the hospital: gas cogeneration unit, with electric power ca 120 kw and heat power ca 190 kw, will be built 120 kw absorption cooling unit furnishing of 2 condensing gas-fired boilers with joint power of 1MW installation of flat-plate solar collectors with total surface of ca 300 m 2 0.7 MW gas-fired steam boiler 400 kw back-up power generator. Construction in progress
