VMware Backup with Vembu Vembu Single Solution for VM Backup and Replication: With version 3.0 Vembu BDR TM vsphere VMs. In one operation, an IT administrator can launch scheduled periodic hostlevel VM backups using VMware s changed block tracking (CBT) that also update a VM replica. The VM replica acts as a warm standby VM and requires minimum intervention for failover and failback. With Vembu BDR TM, IT is able to ensure business continuity for a mission critical Objective (RTO) and the Recovery Point Objective (RPO). 4
VMware Backup with Vembu Federated Deployment Architecture Using advanced, patented, storage software, Vembu BDR TM implements distributed backup and DR operations in a centrally managed environment, which provides scalable data protection for any size virtual infrastructure through the federation of multiple Vembu BDR TM services. Four components form the foundation of a Vembu BDR TM federated data protection environment: Vembu BDR TM Client/Proxy Vembu BDR TM Backup Server VembuHIVE TM Vembu Explorer for Granular Recovery Vembu BDR TM Client/Proxy is installed on a source system to process backup data. For host-level vsphere VM backups, a Vembu proxy can be installed on any physical server with either direct SAN access to host datastores or network access to a host. A VM appliance can also be used as a Vembu proxy to leverage VMware s SCSI hot-add transport mode. Vembu Backup Server receives backup data from a Vembu proxy. While processing VM adds rich content metadata; and minimizes the storage footprint via data de-duplication and compression. Vembu server then commits the backup data to a highly scalable documentoriented database. VembuHIVE TM is Vembu s patented document-oriented repository. Documents in a document-oriented database encapsulate information encoded in value-key pairs, which enables a document to store any data without following a strict schema. In addition, every document has a unique key for retrieval a can be queried on content for intelligent deep visibility into backup documents. Moreover, the value-key construct creates a database that scales easily through the simple addition of storage and compute resources. With structural VMFS metadata removed from VM backup documents and intelligently indexed each document, Vembu BDR TM virtualizes VembuHIVE TM backup server is able to format and present VembuHIVE TM documents as persistent disk images in multiple formats, including.vhd,.vhdx,.and vmdk, with read/write access. Moreover, a Vembu backup server installed on a server running Hyper-V supports instant booting of backed up vsphere VMs as Hyper-V VMs. Explorer for Granular Recovery is an intuitive wizard based utility for performing granular recovery of application data, such as Exchange messages and SQL Server tables. Wizards enable IT administrators to search data items such as messages, contacts, tables, directly from VembuHIVE TM. IT administrators are able to locally mount VM logical disks from hostlevel backups to implement application-level backup and recovery functions that would 5
VMware Backup with Vembu Low-Overhead on Backup and Replication To implement host-level VM backups, a Vembu backup proxy utilizes VMware application programming interfaces (APIs), such as vsphere Storage APIs for Data Protection (VADP), which provides snapshot-based VM backups. To access and transfer VM data via VADP, a Vembu proxy uses the latest release of VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK 6.0) A Vembu backup proxy is also able to invoke Microsoft APIs within a VM guest OS using Appaware, Vembu s extension to VMware Tools. Acting as a volume shadow copy service (VSS) requestor agent, Appaware uses VSS to commit current transactions, freezing new ones, and truncate logs of applications, such as Exchange and SQL Server. More importantly, Appaware uses VSS to create Redirect on Write (RoW) snapshots in the guest OS, which Secure End-to-End Data Flows Vembu BDR TM is designed to use simple peer-to-peer communications when processing backups, which makes security a prime concern. For end-to-end data security, a Vembu server. What s more, a Vembu server applies AES 256 bit encryption when committing data to a VembuHIVE TM. To reduce the cost of data protection operations, Vembu BDR TM wizard-based UI, which can be accessed from anywhere. The centralized Vembu BDR TM granular data recovery operations. In particular the UI includes dedicated explorers to recover the applications like Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint directly from storage locations with few clicks. For SMB sites, the Vembu UI provides a single pane of glass view of all backup and restore operations to reduce the workload of IT administrators. What s more, while Vembu BDR TM is an on premise backup software package, Vembu provides an option to replicate backup data to the Vembu cloud, hosted on Amazon Web Services. VembuHIVE TM Vembu BDR TM ensure that server backups are in a bootable state all the time. As a result, VembuHIVE TM provides IT managers with the assurance of having bootable backups all times. Online Support issues with a minimum handling time. We have consistently maintained the quality of our support 4.3 out of 5. 6
