NANCY ROMA PAECH POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FH LOXTON (INDUSTRY) POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Applications are invited for the NANCY ROMA PAECH POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP or for the FH LOXTON (INDUSTRY) POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP through the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment. The scholarships have been made available as the result of significant donations made by the estates of Nancy Roma Paech and FH Loxton. The Nancy Roma Paech Postgraduate Scholarships are funded by the gift of over $8.6m from the Estate of the late Mrs Nancy Roma Paech, made to the University in 2011. Funds from the bequest of the late FH Loxton have facilitated the provision of three additional postgraduate scholarships. FH Loxton bequeathed a portion of the income from his estate to the University for for the purpose of establishing and maintaining studentships and or scholarships tenable in the Faculty of Agriculture. The awards are for full-time postgraduate study leading to a higher degree by research and thesis and are tenable for up to two years for a Masters degree and three years for a PhD candidate. Applicants must be graduates, graduands or persons holding equivalent qualifications who are eligible for admission to candidature for a higher degree. The scholarship is valued at $30,000 per annum (tax free) in 2012. In addition, under the University's Postgraduate Research Support Scheme, funds may be made available each year towards the cost of enabling postgraduate research students to, amongst other things, attend conferences or visit specialist libraries and laboratories. The funds under this scheme will be awarded on a competitive basis and an application will be required. The awards are normally offered annually, when available. The Nancy Roma Paech Postgraduate Scholarships shall be awarded in any of two categories: Postgraduate Research Scholarships $30,000 per annum or Postgraduate Supplementary Scholarships as determined by the selection committee and are awarded under the following general terms and conditions: 1. The object of the scholarships shall be the encouragement and promotion of research and the scientific study of agriculture within the Faculty. 2. Specific Conditions FH Loxton Scholarship In addition to the conditions for the Faculty Postgraduate Scholarships above, the following specific conditions also apply. FH Loxton bequeathed a portion of the income from his estate to the University for the purpose of establishing and maintaining studentships and or scholarships tenable in the Faculty of Agriculture. These studentships and scholarships shall be awarded to male persons only. The scholarships shall be awarded in any of the following categories, at faculty discretion: Postgraduate Research Scholarships Postgraduate Supplementary Scholarships Postgraduate Short term Research/Thesis Completion Scholarships Undergraduate Scholarships Postdoctoral Fellowships 1. The name of the scholarships shall be the FH Loxton Postgraduate Scholarships. 2. The scholarships are for postgraduate research and shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit. 3. The postgraduate scholarships are awarded at the annual rate of an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA). 4. The scholarships are tenable for up to two years for a masters degree and up to three years for a PhD degree subject to satisfactory annual progress judged by the faculty concerned, or the Department in the case of Chemical Engineering. In exceptional circumstances, a further extension of six months may be granted to PhD candidates. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the award will be deducted from the maximum period of tenure.
