Associate of Applied Science Nursing Program (A.A.S.) Admission Packet The Nursing program is a course of study leading to an Associate of Applied Science Degree. The program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The Nursing courses at RSCC are offered over 4 semesters. In addition to the nursing courses, there are 27 credit hours of general education that must be completed for the A.A.S. in Nursing degree. Total degree requirements are 66 credits. Since nursing students spend a significant amount of time outside of class in study, clinical and laboratory practice, completion of the general education requirements is recommended prior to beginning the nursing program. Admisson Process for the Traditional Program Please read the following information carefully. Minimum requirements for admission to the Nursing Program are listed below. All items are required. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Step 1: Apply to the College In order to apply to the nursing program the applicant must first be admitted to Roane State. All college transcripts should be submitted to the Roane State Admissions and Records Office prior to the nursing application deadline. Step 2: Meet Below Eligibility Requirements Prior to the Nursing Application Deadline eligibility requirements are effective for students seeking admission fall 2017 pending TBR approval 1. (This requirement is waived for applicants upon proof of an associate, bachelor s or master s degree.) During this information session, accepted students receive specific information about health requirements including required immunizations, private health insurance, criminal background checks, drug screenings, and CPR Health Care Provider certification. Background checks and drug screens must be acceptable to clinical affiliates in order for students to attend clinicals and meet the requirements of the program. The nursing pre-admission exam must be taken and passed by the application deadline for the nursing program. You should schedule and take the HESI A-2 as soon as possible. If you have taken the HESI examination at another college you may submit those scores for the Nursing Division to determine if they are passing or not. Roane State waives the nursing pre-admission examination requirement for applicants who have a college degree from an accredited college (SACS-COC or equivalent.)

If unsuccessful on the first attempt, the applicant must wait 3 months to re-test. Once passed, the exam scores are valid for three years. Any repeat testing within the 3 months waiting period will not be considered. This is to ensure that that all students are treated equally. There is an optional study guide entitled Admission Assessment Exam Review. (If you dire to obtain the study guide, it is recommended that you purchase the most recent edition).
