2012 WP - COOPERATION - FAFB Priorities and overview Driving forces: Tackling the growing need for food and biomass Coping with climate change, population dynamics, change in demand and resource depletion, ensuring a resilient food chain Making the most of our seas and ocean resources The WP addresses 4 Challenges : Sustainable primary production; mitigating and adapting to climate change Low carbon and resource efficient industry Food security and safety for Europe and beyond Socially inclusive and healthy Europe
2012 WP - COOPERATION - FAFB International cooperation International Cooperation: All topics open to international participants Twinning of projects continues 2 SICAs on Conversion of bio-waste in developing countries and on Novel protein sources (one contributing to MDGs) 3 rd country participation encouraged in 5 topics (one contributing to MDGs)
Twinning of projects Good examples given e.g. by Argentina which is opening up to other countries in the region Serves the promoting of international cooperation With third countries that have signed bilateral S&T agreements with the European Union, allows collaboration between projects under Theme 2 of FP7 and projects from related research programmes in these third countries on the basis of mutual benefit and reciprocity. Activities that could be expected are for instance: short term exchanges / visits of researchers and students; setting up of common working groups; joint scientific papers; organisation of workshops; common procedures and protocols; common literature reviews; data, information, knowledge and material sharing. Costs of these activities are expected to be approximately 1% of the total European Union contribution to these projects.
2012 WP - COOPERATION - FAFB Introducing innovation Emphasis on from discovery to demonstration. Several topics require or encourage: Proof-of-concept and demonstration activities Knowledge transfer and dissemination actions Standardisation activities Several topics specifically focus on the exploitation of research results of former FP projects
2012 WP - COOPERATION - FAFB Actions to ensure SME participation Continued focus on strengthening SME participation: SMEs as key players to foster innovation Almost 20% of budget earmarked for SME participants A majority of topics have ring-fenced budget for SMEs EU contribution for SMEs varies from 10% up to 75 % of topics budget
