All successful writing considers 3 factors: 1. Audience: who is the text for? e.g. public, friends, teacher, employer, decision-maker, myself 2. Purpose: what is the text for? what are you hoping to achieve? e.g. to inform, to persuade, to argue, to describe, to display knowledge, to make a request 3. Form: genre, style & organization of the text e.g. formal versus spoken style, level of detail, vocabulary choice, order of information in the text
