Emergency Road Service (ERS) provides you (not your vehicle) with 24-hour Emergency Road Service anywhere in Canada or the United States. ERS is the assistance CAA provides to you when the vehicle you are driving or riding in is unable to operate safely due to mechanical failure. CAA s commitment is to make the vehicle operable at the location of breakdown or, if that is not possible, to tow it to a service facility. A service facility is defined as a garage equipped and staffed to provide general vehicle repair. If specialty repairs are required, CAA cannot guarantee they will be available at this service facility. ERS coverage provides towing to a service facility of your choice, free of charge, within a 5 km radius (or 160 km radius for Plus members). CAA will help you find a service facility if needed. If immediate repairs cannot be located, CAA will assist you to find lodging or alternative transportation (costs are your responsibility). CAA cannot guarantee that parts will be in stock or that repairs will be immediate. The cost of repairs are your responsibility. Our road service goal it to help the most members possible with common emergency problems we can solve. In fairness to all members, CAA reserves the right to refuse service, impose a surcharge or cancel a membership of any member who uses road service improperly or to excess.
Who Provides This Service? 9 ERS is provided by CAA s own road service staff or by affiliated CAA/AAA Road Service Contractors (who are neither employees nor agents of CAA) under contract to provide ERS to CAA members. While CAA is not responsible for acts or omissions of these independent contractors, CAA will assist you to resolve any complaints that may arise as a result of damage or unsatisfactory service. Membership Benefits CAA Membership (Classic) Emergency Road Service Benefits Include: Up to four Emergency Road Service calls per membership year. However, if your requirements happen to exceed the allotted four calls per year, there will be a charge for the extra services at reduced membership rates. Towing of your vehicle or the vehicle in which you are riding in, free of charge to a service facility of your choice within a 5 km radius of the point of breakdown, back to the service facility (if applicable) or any point of your choice along the direct route. You should always call ahead to ensure the service facility can accept the vehicle for service (CAA will help you find a service facility if needed). If you choose to have the vehicle towed to a location beyond these limits, or the service facility is unable to accept the vehicle, additional costs are your responsibility. Service to all properly licensed four-wheeled, motordriven passenger, pleasure or recreational vehicles (ie: vans, campers, motorhomes, and rented passenger vehicles). Exceptions are outlined in Emergency Road Service limitations. Arrangements will be made for trailers being towed at the time of the breakdown. Charges will apply for towing trailers. Dual-wheeled campers and motorhomes (two wheels on the front and four on the back) are eligible for all services except tire service, towing and extrication. Dual-wheeled unloaded pickup trucks (two wheels on the front and four on the back) are eligible for all services except tire service. Service on all public roadways (see Emergency Road Service limitations) and in situations that are not the result of illegal actions or accidents. Minor adjustments to enable the vehicle to proceed under its own power.
10 Battery boost to enable the vehicle to the nearest repair facility (towing provision will apply if vehicle cannot be started). Installation of a spare tire or, if no inflated spare is available, towing in accordance with provisions. Flat tire service does not include tire repair; additional trips to deliver a repaired tire; installation or removal of tire chains; mounting, dismounting or shifting of tires; or seasonal tire changeovers. Gaining access to the vehicle when the keys are locked inside. Fuel delivery service: A limited supply of fuel will be delivered to your disabled vehicle, enabling you to reach the nearest fuel station. The cost of fuel is your responsibility. Locksmith reimbursement: If the ignition key is lost or broken and the vehicle is inoperable, CAA shall provide reimbursement to you for locksmith service up to $50 (excluding parts). If necessary, towing will be provided in accordance with towing provisions. Extrication or winching of an eligible vehicle from a public roadway (exceptions outlined in Emergency Road Service Limitations). If special equipment, more than one truck, or more than one person is required, the associated costs will be your responsibility. If the vehicle cannot be safely operated after extrication, towing benefits will apply. Your personal cheque up to $400, or $250 U.S.D. will be accepted for emergency repairs and service that has been provided by any affiliated CAA/AAA contract facility. You must present your valid CAA membership card at the time of payment. The name on the cheque must match the name on the membership card. 12 Liability Certain types of American and foreign-made cars (especially those with fiberglass bodies) and vehicles with owner-made modifications are difficult to tow without the chance of causing damage. In such cases, you may be asked to sign a damage waiver release. NOTE: Any damages resulting from ERS service must be reported to CAA within 24 hours and before any repairs are done. CAA reserves the right to refuse claims submitted more than 10 days after an incident. Emergency Road Service Limitations Our road service goal is to help the most members possible with common emergency problems we can solve. Please remember the word emergency and you ll understand how we define what s covered and what s not by your membership. In fairness to all members, CAA reserves the right to refuse service, impose a surcharge, or cancel the membership of any member who uses road service improperly or to excess. CAA coverage does not apply to the following non-emergency situations: Service cannot be provided to an unattended vehicle unless pre-authorized by CAA.
