Welcome to CONTACTUS.COM A START GUIDE FOR CREATING YOUR FIRST CONTACT FORM We have created this guide especially for you. It s based on the most popular features available in our contact form. If you re using our newsletter form, appointment form, chat form or call-tracking, the instructions may require slight adaptations.
CONFIGURING YOUR FIRST CONTACT FORM: By default, your ContactUs.com profile comes pre-loaded with a contact form that s yours to customize. To start configuring your first form, go to Forms and click on the form image. First-time users should click on the Configure This Form green button to go to General Settings. We suggest that you name your form. This name is used only within your ContactUs.com profile for your own reference, so your web visitors aren t going to see it. The name will be helpful as you are able to create new contact forms and other different kinds of forms in your account, and naming them makes it easier to keep track of them or edit specific forms. Next, you ll need to decide what type of fields you need in your contact form. (Note: This does not apply for other form types like newsletter, appointment, chat and donation.) For Contact Forms, we have two available options for you: Preset templates with Standard Fields, or if you re looking for a more customized version of your form, then you need to use our Custom Fields option. 5 Standard Field Forms are easier to customize because there are fewer customization options. You will have more form designs from which to choose. Field options are limited to Name, Email, Phone and Message. a This is an example of our preset templates library. We have many templates available, and you can customize your fields to be required, optionalor even hidden. Fewer form customizations are available with Standard Field forms.
CONFIGURING YOUR FIRST CONTACT FORM: 6 Custom Field Forms require a little more work, but are more flexible in the kind of form you can produce. a b If you re looking to have a very original form design, our custom fields panel allows you to choose from our predefined form templates, which you can later customize. Or, you can start with a blank form and add the fields you need one-by-one. Separately, you can add extra contact fields and basic input fields to your form such as drop-down menus, checkboxes, radio buttons, date, text and text area fields. 7 If you re looking to engage visitors on your website, we recommend using our various smart form triggers. These tools allow you to time your forms to load after a specific time that a visitor has been on your website (our Page Load Trigger ), and even open your forms right before a visitor leaves your website (our Exit Event Trigger ). 8 Mobile Settings allow you to choose the behavior of your form on mobile devices. We offer different options to make your form mobile-optimized. 9 As you advance, you can see a live preview of your custom form by clicking on the Show Preview button. 0 For every change you make to your form, make sure to save your advances. Once you have finished customizing your form, don t forget to hit the Save and Publish button, so your changes can go live.
SUBMISSION SETTINGS : Once you have created your form, you may want to configure your form notifications. To do so, select your form and on the left panel you ll see Submission Settings. Hit Form Notifications to add your email address. By default, the email address used to register the account will be pre-filled. Free users can enter one email address. Lite users and above can add multiple email addresses. New lead notifications will be sent to the email notification addresses specified in the form notification panel. Are you using a rd party software service to track form submissions? If so, we offer form integration with several popular services such as MailChimp, Active Campaign and Sendy. Hit the Software Integrations button to access the integrations panel, where you can select the integration. Once you ve selected the service, you ll be prompted to input your credentials such as API Key or List ID (credentials vary per service). Finally, don t forget to hit Save and Publish.
PLACING THE FORM ONTO YOUR WEBSITE 5 When you have finished configuring your form, it s ready to go live on your site. Hit the Get Code button to grab the embed code that should be added to your site. We have different implementation options. Standard and Embedded are the most commonly-used ones. Select Standard for Call Out Tab + Pop-Up Form implementation. Select Embedded for an embedded version of the form directly onto your website. From the Get Code page, copy the code provided and paste it on your website s source code. We suggest placing it before the </body> tag. Then, once the code is in place, you may enter your URL below and check if the implementation is correct.
