NAVAL COMMAND SCHOOL Augusta The Naval Command School is located in Augusta (province of Syracuse, Sicily), at the Command of Naval Patrol Forces for Coastal Surveillance and Defence, COMFORPAT. Since its establishment, it has constantly trained young Staff Corps Officers providing professional skills and naval culture, in order to prepare Lieutenants to take the command of minor war vessels of the Italian Navy. A standard training session (an average of four training sessions are held during a year) consists of two phases, providing respectively: classroom-based training, in which lectures are partly held by course participants and partly by COMFORPAT personnel, covering maritime issues including international law and Navy logistics and administrative matters; hands-on training, including day and night kinematic manoeuvres, complex exercises and port calls or lying at anchor, both at home and abroad. Attendees have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and develop their professional skills, in order to properly perform their duties as Commanders. This training module also provides Deck Officer qualification for officers and non-commissioned officers. Frequent exercises at sea for the conduct of simple and complex kinematic manoeuvres provide participants with adequate naval command capabilities. LOCATION AND SCHEDULE TYPICAL NAVAL COMMAND SCHOOL Patrol & Coastal Defence Forces Command (COMFORPAT) - Augusta, Sicily. Training attendees to assume command of a Ship. The course is heavily geared toward practical training, aimed at offering attendees realistic situations and enabling them to manoeuvre with ease and safety in restricted waters and open ocean. Students will acquire experience in both day and night time shiphandling, as well as formation and independent manoeuvres. 6 weeks (4 terms per year: January-February, March-April, May-June, October-November). No. 1 for each term (4 per year). Minimum rank of lieutenant and adequate professional experience aboard a military unit; qualification as Officer of the Deck and good knowledge of international sailing rules for preventing collisions at sea and standards provided by the Convention IMO - STCW '95 (Table A- II / 1) excellent knowledge of the Italian language, to be tested before starting the course. Board and lodging is provided in accordance with bilateral agreements.

NAVAL WAR COLLEGE Venice JUNIOR STAFF INSTITUTE Naval War College (NSC) - Venice Provide students with knowledge and skills required to developing, planning and conducting staff activities related to Navy and Joint central/peripheral Commands, within national, foreign and international organizations. Participants will acquire: main principles of the Working Methods and Operating Planning Procedures currently in use at national and NATO level (namely COPD); - written and oral Communications skills, with specific reference to forms of communications in use at headquarters; the value of strategic communications; elements of Public Relations; - main principles of Doctrine and Strategy, with a focus on the international environment in which Armed Forces (Navy in particular) operate; - main principles of Management and International, Maritime and Humanitarian Law. - AIMS The Naval Staff College located within the historical site of the Venice Naval Shipyard, provides Navy officers with the opportunity to enrich previously acquired technical and operational capabilities with far-reaching and extensive knowledge and pro- fessional skills, in order to adequately perform staff duties. The educational course is based on an increasing level of complexity of information and crisis scenarios faced by the students. ADMISSION TO PERSONNEL The course may also be attended by Defence civilian officials, officers of other services and officers of foreign Navies. NAVAL ACADEMY REGULAR BASIC REGULAR AND APPLICATION (NAVAL ENGINEERING) LOCATION Naval Academy Leghorn Training young men and women who aspire to be naval officers LOCATION Naval Academy Leghorn AND SCHEDULE Aimed at training officers to embark and take command of naval units and/or operating entities of the armed forces. Upon completion of the three year course of study, officers will be awarded a degree in Maritime & Naval Science. Subsequently, officers attend qualification and training courses & on board Italian naval warships, earning 40 hours of course credit for a subsequent Specialist/Bachelor s Degree in Maritime & Naval Science. Training naval engineering officers. TYPICAL COUN- TRIES 3 academic years, 8/10 months devoted to training and qualification courses. On request of respective countries, foreign attendees may return to Italy after six years to attend a 12/24 month Specialist/Bachelor s Degree programme in Marine and Naval Science. Starting from the 2019/2020 academic year, there will be a continuing course, as officers from year group 2016/17 will join attendees of more senior year groups. Foreign Students attend a preparatory course at one of the two joint language schools, Loreto or Perugia, with a tentative start in March/ April. Upon getting through the final Italian language proficiency exam (August) and meeting all physical standards, admittance will be granted to the 1 st class of the Italian Naval Academy Basic Officer Course. This course consists of at least two summer training campaigns onboard Italian Navy training ships, and training modules to be followed at specific Navy operational units, each lasting 10 weeks. No. 11 (1 every 5 Italian students). High school diploma or equivalent, preferably from a nautical or scientific school, enabling enrolment at university faculties. Diplomas should be submitted in the original copy, with attached Italian translation, and be validated by relevant national school systems. Good psycho-physical fitness to meet requirements for an officer serving in the Italian Navy. Upon arrival, foreign students will be subject to a health screening at the Naval Academy medical facilities. Age between 18-22 years. Good knowledge of Italian language, to be tested before starting the course. All course material is UNCLASSIFIED Board and lodging is provided in accordance with bilateral agreements. Upon successful completion of the study and training programmes, officers will be awarded a Bachelor s Degree in Naval Engineering. A percentage of officers will be awarded a Bachelor s Degree in civil and environmental engineering for follow-on employment in the infrastructural sector. 6 academic years (4 at the Naval Academy and 2 at a conventional state university). NAVY PETTY OFFICER SCHOOL La Maddalena The Italian Navy Petty Officer School in La Maddalena provides ethical, military, and technical/vocational training for the Navy Petty Officers. Certificates of attendance are issued on successful completion of courses, along with relevant training qualifications and licences. The School also awards the nautical licences and certificates required by the Ministry of Transport, in accordance with equivalence conditions and conversions as provided by the national legislation in force. he training is disengaged with a large component addestrativa (about 34%) and a teaching program (about 66%) with an average of 30% of theoretical and 36% of practical activity. Thanks to its favourable geographical location and to the peculiar marine weather conditions of the area, the School has also developed sailing activities over time, thus becoming a nationally recognised training centre for coastal and blue water sailing. The School hosts the summer sailing courses run by the Italian Navy, recognised by the Federazione Italiana Vela (Italian Sailing Federation). In order to perform efficiently the tasks assigned to the school permanently it employs more than 420 men and women between the military (74 officers, 158 NCOs, 95 ranks) and civilian personnel (94 units between civilian teachers and support staff). All Courses meet IMO - STCW-95 standards and, on the basis of specific Governmental agreements, are available to personnel of foreign Navies. ITALIAN NAVY ELITE DIVERS La Spezia SCUBADIVER INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATION MCM DIVERD IVER/ / EOD MARITIMEM ARITIME BASIC LOCATION Operational Raiders & Divers Group HQ (COMSUBIN) TESEO TE- SEI - Le Grazie (LA SPEZIA). LOCATION Operational Raiders & Divers Group HQ (COMSUBIN) TESEO TESEI - Le Grazie (LA SPEZIA). Training qualified Scubadivers to conduct explosive loading operations during mine warfare. TYPICAL Training personnel who have obtained the Military Scubadiver Certification at COMSUBIN (see Scubadiver Course information form) to fill the position of Scubadiver Instructor at their respective command training facilities. Course Outline (Levels of qualification): Coaching, assistant instructor, nationally qualified Diving School Instructor. Theoretical training modules include: advanced training in Undersea Physiopathology; first aid training, including BLSD and PTC qualification; classroom management techniques (Mariscuola Taranto) SSO (Security Service Operator) Damage Control Training Course athletic training. The Course is selective, and envisages a series of periodic assessments and a final exam. 231 days (not including leave/vacation periods) - One session for year. Max 8. Good knowledge of the Italian language, to be tested before starting the Course. Good command of underwater technical terminology. TYPICAL Attendees are required to submit a record of qualifications and training certified by their respective countries. Certificates should include the following information: any and all Diving qualifications; type of breathing apparatus previously used for diving training/ operations any explosives qualification; previous diving experience (logbook certified copy). In addition, foreign personnel will undergo an entrance exam which lasts 12 days, in order to assess diving proficiency level. COMSUBIN shall terminate the Training Course for any attendee whose should scarce professional skills could compromise the safety of training activities Upon successful passing of the entrance exam, participants will attend the following training schedule: decompression chamber training (if not previously completed in COMSUBIN); E.O.R. theory (IED identification); educational visits to explosives companies/establishments; live training at land firing areas; training in the use of breathing apparatus and oxygen mixture used by the Italian Navy; familiarization period onboard MHC unit.
