CARRIER ETHERNET SERVICE MANAGEMENT Pro-Vision offers a graphical environment to streamline and automate the provisioning and management of MRV s OptiPacket and OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet 2.0 access and aggregation platforms. Pro-Vision generates reports in PDF, Excel or HTML file formats. Users can generate chronological reports ondemand from multiple report types including: SLA metrics, performance management, fault management and device inventory among many others. Zero-Touch Configuration Another SDN oriented feature is zero-touch provisioning which automates and speeds Carrier Ethernet service changes. It reduces manual provisioning both in the network operations center and in the field thereby reducing operating expense and supports service scaling in real-time. With zero-touch operators can schedule automatic software updates, push new FPGA versions, send configuration files, enable network database synchronization and automate backup/restore functions. A-to-Z Service Provisioning A service wizard simplifies scalable provisioning of carrier Ethernet services from end-to-end. Services can be created from one screen in a few simple guided steps, including specifying the source and destination end-points, and selecting from the appropriate templates and profiles to define the service parameters. Predefined service profile templates streamline the overall efficiency of service creation. Service paths can be automatically detected and provisioned when defining new services and numerous protection mechanisms, such as G.8032 ERPS and Link Aggregation, offer providers further peace of mind. Real-Time Performance Monitoring Performance monitoring provides end-toend visibility into service performance to insure that customer SLAs are met. Pro- Vision incorporates flexible real-time data collection mechanisms that can poll a large number of devices and thresholds can be set to generate user-defined alarms based on polling data. Real-time and historic performance monitoring is based on MEF Service Operations, Administration and Management (SOAM) as well as applicable ITU-T and IEEE standards. SLA Reporting and Analytics Periodic reports are required as proof of service delivery for mobile back-haul or business services. Pro-Vision analytics engine analyzes the results and generates reports in PDF, Excel or HTML file format. Users can generate daily, weekly, or monthly reports on-demand. Pro-Vision enables selection of multiple report types including: SOAM, SLA metrics, device inventory and others in graph, chart or tabular formats. 4 www.mrv.com
Customer Web Portals Visibility into service performance is provided through customer web portal features that allow customer monitoring of service performance from the web browser based on service provider defined views. It provides customizable visibility into customer SLA performance data through an intuitive GUI dashboard. OPTICAL TRANSPORT SERVICE MANAGEMENT Pro-Vision provides a common service management framework to enable orchestration of the full service lifecycle for Optical Transport WDM and OTN services utilizing MRV s OptiDriver and FiberDriver platform families. Automatic path computation with impairment awareness allows for simplified service creation and helps reduce activation times for ROADM-based as well as traditional WDM-based services. Additional troubleshooting tools such as service-level PRBS testing and Enhanced Optical Channel Monitoring allow technicians to quickly isolate faults, simplify network planning, and improve the end-users quality of experience. Automated Circuit Configuration and Monitoring Whether the service will utilize complex multi-degree ROADM-based networks or more traditional static WDM topologies - automated path detection and impairment awareness allow new Optical Transport circuits to be created with just a few clicks. Optical power balancing for ROADM modules adjusts power of individual optical channels to minimize potential impairments Once a circuit is defined, it can be monitored to check the health of the circuit end to end, including ability to define thresholds and generate alarms. Circuit monitoring allows Pro- Vision to pro-actively track and alert on the status and performance of each circuit, including key metrics such as circuit availability, Rx/Tx power, temperature, as well as utilization for OTN circuits. Optical Transport Network (OTN) Services Pro-Vision enables Optical Transport Network (OTN) services with performance monitoring with history and threshold settings supports management of optical modules that enable the user to visualize Forward Error Correction (FEC) and OTN OAM performance statistics. Point-topoint and ring-based transport architectures using muxponder and transponder functions are supported. Enhanced Optical Channel Monitoring This Pro-Vision application provides visual real-time as well as continuous proactive monitoring and reporting of the DWDM spectrum health and performance as well as channel occupancy. It helps operators detect signal degradations, faults, as well as security breaches, while at the same time enabling easy at-a-glance inventory of available DWDM channels for new service activations. COMMON PACKET AND OPTICAL MANAGEMENT FEATURES Pro-Vision is designed to improve operational efficiency by unifying the management of packet switching equipment and optical transport equipment. Pro-Vision is the orchestration software overlay that enables convergence of the packet and optical layers into a robust access network capable of efficiently supporting all lifecycle phases of new as well as existing services. 6 www.mrv.com
Pro-active Fault Management Automated fault management and troubleshooting tools provide early fault detection and identification, enable rapid service restoration and thus help significantly reduce operating expenses while increasing customer satisfaction. Pro-Vision supports alarm categorization, with root cause analysis and easy drill-down. Alarms can be easily categorized by severity, source, resource type, and time of day. The event/trap processing supports the filtering, suppression, or propagation as well as intelligent alarm correlation. Multi-Level Security Pro-Vision provides flexible multi-user security levels that allow the administrator to control specific operations, views, maps, audit trails, and logs that can be accessed by specific groups or users. These security levels reduce the risk of unauthorized access and miss-configuration. Open Northbound API Pro-Vision s open architecture supports a northbound Application Programming Interface (API) that enables OSS/BSS applications to retrieve fault, configuration and performance data from the Pro-Vision server. The API is based on Web services SOAP/XML standards and SNMP. Carrier Class Scalability and Availability The Pro-Vision platform is built upon a powerful distributed architecture supporting Carrier Class scalability, reliability and high availability. The platform provides common functions for device discovery, inventory management and full fault management, configuration management, accounting, provisioning and security (FCAPS). The flexible and modular design of the Pro-Vision platform allows scaling to large numbers of network elements required by Tier 1 service providers. It utilizes a highly scalable multi-tier distributed architecture with redundancy available at all levels from UI servers to the system s back ends, to the database. Software Defined Networking (SDN) Pro-Vision software is built on a flexible architecture designed to support the latest service orchestration technologies. It seamlessly automates provisioning, orchestration and management of large numbers of network elements and services. Whether utilized as the primary network and service orchestrator or deployed as a control plane mediation layer in a larger multi-vendor SDN ecosystem Pro-Vision is designed to support programmable data formats and APIs for standards-based open networking from any vendor s orchestration platform. As SDN standards continue to evolve and are deployed, Pro-Vision provides the necessary tools that simplify the overall operations, reduce operating costs and reduce time-to-market. www.mrv.com 7
