SAP Solution Manager From awareness to action SAP has compiled best practices for E2E Solution Operations based on the experience from customer engagements over three decades. SAP is aware of customer pain points. Solution Updates Problem analysis Incident Management Change Management Monitoring Requirements Optimize Application Management Operate Deploy Transparency on Processes & Apps Design Build & Test Software logistics Innovation Management Integration Testing Integration Validation Implementation methodology for E2E Solution Operations: Run SAP. Pain points are addressed by best practices: SAP Standards* for E2E Solution Operations. * SAP Standards for Solution Operations http://service.sap.com/supportstandards SAP Solution Manager provides all capabilities for E2E Solution Operations.
Solution Documentation Motivation Customer pain points My Solution Documentation is: 1 Hard to understand for non-experts Initially my business processes have been modeled very detailed. Now, after go-live, the is too complex to be reused or a help for non-business process experts. 2 Outdated and not reliable Because of costs or organizational aspects my business process has not been updated or verified since it s initial creation. 3 Not related to supporting software There s no sufficient transparency which SAP and non-sap software supports my business processes. 4 Not centrally accessible There s no centralized access to my business process and system landscape information. 5 Very costly to maintain There s no automated t and controlled maintenance of my. So I only do this effort sporadically, partially or before major software updates, only.
Solution Documentation Definition What is Solution Documentation? Solution Documentation means having documented the following key elements: core business processes related dtechnical objects, such as transactions, ti programs, custom code, background djobs, interfaces related (non-sap) system and software components Recommended project language is English The correct usage of implementation projects automatically leads to sufficient solution in the operations and optimization phase. If you start with the in the operations phase, you should make the of your core business processes available in SAP Solution Manager. In relation to a complete implementation project only a subset of information is needed, then. Main tools: Focus Re-Documentation Upgrades -> verify Business Blueprint Solution Configuration Solution Documentation Assistant System Landscape Maintenance/Directory (SMSY/SLD) Operations -> re-document Solution Documentation life-cycle Requirements Optimize Application Management Operate Deploy Design Build & Test Focus Initial Documentation Template Management -> ceate global documentaion Implementation -> create or locally adjust Configuration -> extend
Solution Documentation Life-Cycle ALM phase and related Solution can be continuously enriched along the ALM life-cycle Design: Create global business process templates and specifications, e.g. for later implementation projects Design/Build: Newly create or locally adjust business process structure during your implementation project Solution Documentation life-cycle Build/Test: Extend business process during solution configuration, e.g. with custom code, configuration information, test cases Upgrades -> verify Operations -> re-document Requirements Optimize Design Application Management Operate Deploy Build & Test Template Management -> create global Implementation -> create or locally adjust Configuration -> extend Operate: Re-document or adjust your business process during operations, e.g. with system information Optimize: Verify your business process before upgrades, e.g. delete obsolete information, e.g. not used custom code
Core and Critical Business Processes Definition What s a core or critical business process? Regularly there are not more than 1-5 core or critical business processes within a company Core business processes are the most important processes, leading to a severe impact on the company s business if they are disrupted Citi Criticalbusiness processes are new or technically challenging business processes, e.g. with custom developments or non-sap components needing high awareness or monitoring Documentation in SAP Solution Manager doesn t mean to model every process step variant and ddetail. It means to have an understandable d structure t with ithinformation relevant for reuse of other teams and other application life-cycle capabilities Example manufacturing industries: Material supply of the production If this process is disrupted and material outages arise, the production of finished parts will be impossible. So the company has to change production plans, causing higher total production cost In addition, customer orders will not be delivered in time, so that customer satisfaction decreases The material supply process needs to be considered a critical core process, because the company loses money, if material outages occur
