GENERAL INFORMATION SHEET Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities is a national program recognizing college students for outstanding leadership, scholarship and service. Each Fall semester outstanding students are invited to submit applications for this recognition opportunity. Applications are screened and faculty/staff from various departments make selections. Eligibility and Selection The Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities program seeks to recognize the most outstanding students from each campus. Selection is based on an application using a point system, which gives consideration to your academic and non- academic achievements, as well as campus and community involvement. Categories considered are: GPA based on the official copy of your transcript that is provided in application packet Campus and Student Organization Involvement Honors & Awards Volunteer/Community Service Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: (One (1) letter of recommendation MUST be from a University official) Resume All applicants will be notified of their status in the selection process. Please carefully read the entire contents of this document before completing the attached application. It is very important that the application is complete and all information must be legible in order to be considered. I. ELIGIBILITY Students eligible for consideration for Who s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges must meet the following criteria: FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (a) Must be currently enrolled at Howard University in a degree- seeking program. Persons enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible for consideration. (b) Must be classified as at least a junior as designated by the school/college of enrollment. (c) Must have completed at least 15 credit hours at Howard University
(d) Must have a minimum of a 3.5 Cumulative grade point average during the Fall semester of the year in which you wish to be considered. (e) Must provide a copy of an official transcript. (f) Must submit a completed application to be considered. FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS (a) Must be currently enrolled at Howard University in a degree- seeking program. Persons enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible for consideration. (b) Must have earned at least 9 credit hours at Howard University. (c) Must have a minimum of a 3.5 Cumulative grade point average during the Fall semester of the year in which you wish to be considered (d) Must provide a copy of an official transcript. (e) Must submit a completed application to be considered. FOR PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS (a) Must be currently enrolled at Howard University in a degree- seeking program. Persons enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible for consideration. (b) Must have completed at least 9 credit hours at Howard University. (e) Must submit a completed application to be considered. II. DEADLINE THE APPLICATION MUST BE SIGNED and submitted to the Office of Student Activities in the Amour J. Blackburn University Center by 5:00 pm on Monday, November 30, 2015 in order to be considered. (There will be no exceptions) III. EVALUATION CRITERIA All eligible applicants will be evaluated in the following categories: (a) Honors and Awards: Academic standing, academic honors, academic programs as well as membership, participation and contributions made in honor societies. (b) Campus and Student Organization Involvement: Involvement in student government, publication, various boards and/or committees, special interest groups and/or University- wide student organizations, clubs, sororities and fraternities, etc. (c) Volunteer and Community Service: Various services provided to the University community through off- campus involvement, special service projects, initiations and level of participation in organization and projects and other civic activities. (d) Letters of recommendation: One (1) letter must be from a Howard University official (i.e. faculty, staff, etc.) (e) Resume: Submit the most recent copy of your resume. NOTES: (a) Persons previously honored in the Who s Who program on the post- secondary level will not be eligible to participate. (b) Only achievement, involvements, and/or considerations made while enrolled at Howard University will be considered.
