CHAPTER 3 License management This section contains the following topics: Types of licenses...12 Adding a license...13 Viewing license inventory... 13 Viewing PowerPath/VE license sage... 14 Viewing hosts withot PowerPath/VE license... 14 Exporting license sage data...15 Exporting nlicensed host data... 15 License management 11

License management Types of licenses Explains the types of license spported by PowerPath/VE. Served license The Served licensing model ses a license server to store, distribte and manage PowerPath/VE licenses. In this model, the Electronic License Management Server (ELMS) distribtes the PowerPath/VE licenses to vsphere hosts. Yo install the license configration file on the PPVE ELMS and it manages the licenses for all the PowerPath/VE hosts for which the license was generated. Unserved license The Unserved licensing model binds PowerPath/VE to a specific vsphere host. More accrately, to an ESX niqe system ID. An Unserved license is only valid for the specific vsphere host for which it was generated. An Unserved license is static; it cannot be sed on another vsphere host. It does not se a license server. Rather, the PowerPath/VE license is stored on the remote (rpowermt) PowerPath server. This type of license is also known as the Node Locked license. Master Key license The Master Key license is a special case of Unserved license. This license model is available to cstomers with an Enterprise License Agreement only. A Master Key license is locked to a domain sbnet, for example *.abc.def.com. In this case, it mst contain the Virtal Appliance's sbnet. It allows rpowermt commands to be rn against any PowerPath/VE host regardless of the host's address or domain. For more information on licensing, refer the following docments available on EMC Online Spport. EMC PowerPath Family Electronic License Ordering Process Technical Notes PowerPath/VE for VMware vsphere Master Key License Process PowerPath/VE for VMware vsphere Licensing Gide Trial license The PowerPath Virtal Appliance 1.2 comes with a 45-day trial license period for an nlimited nmber of PowerPath/VE version 5.9 hosts. The addition of Permanent or Temporary license keys to the PowerPath/VE 5.9 hosts that are sing Trial licenses will transition respective licenses that are added. The Trial licenses are atomatically pshed to all nlicensed PowerPath/VE 5.9 hosts. Overdraft Served licenses contain an overdraft cont which provides a temporary bffer of 10% above the cont of licenses prchased. The overdraft featre provides a temporary bffer license when the nmber of PowerPath/VE hosts exceed the nmber of PowerPath/VE licenses. The overdraft cont applies to the Served licenses only. Unmanaged hosts are not inclded in the overdraft cont. In the PowerPath Virtal Appliance web console: the Licenses > Installed License Smmary tab displays the overdraft qantity only when the overdrafts are sed. the Licenses > Installed License Smmary tab displays the overdraft licenses applied to PowerPath/VE hosts as Temporary even thogh the Served license is Permanent. the Licenses > Permanent Licenses Needed tab displays the overdraft licenses as 'Permanent Licenses Needed'. 12 EMC PowerPath Virtal Appliance 1.2 Administration Gide
