National Innovation Initiative
National Innovation Initiative Objective: To consolidate and promote cooperation among private sector, university and non-governmental organizations for developing and implementing innovation policies in Turkey; to contribute to the development of innovation policies in Turkey by promoting the dialog between political authorities and public institutions and extending opinions; and eventually to increase public awareness on innovation. Scope: The fundamental target of the Initiative is to compose a Strategy Document, which will help address the objectives briefly defined above. Partners: Implementation is carried out by a members group. The members of the National Innovation Initiative includes Presidents of 6 universities, CEOs from 6 major companies, 7 representatives of nongovernmental organizations, and 2 executives from REF.

Main Elements Societal consensus on innovation-based development and growth model Recognize the fact that innovation must be an integral part of social and economic policies of the country Develop measures toward women workforce to participate to the Turkish job market so as to cap their innovation potential Give priority to frontier and inter- diciplinary research Ensure that the young population, which is the primary resource for innovation, are well-educated, educated, and hence turn the demographic advantage of Turkey into competitive advantage. Develop regional innovation systems; prioritize regional structures in nationwide innovation governance system and; establish linkages with the newly established Development Agencies Create awareness on and disseminate a culture of innovation throughout the society
