Assignment: Writing an industrial year CV and covering letter 1. Read the adverts for industrial year vacancies overleaf. Choose one of these positions you are now going to apply for it. These are real industrial placement adverts from this year. There are some jobs in IS, some jobs in the web team, and a job at NAG. 2. Prepare a CV for whichever of the three positions suits your skills best (80 marks) You should write the CV concentrating on the competencies that you have now. Feel free to discuss, in your covering letter, the skills you will have at the end of the second year, but do not fabricate any information. Information on the modules that you will be taking, and the skills that you are expected to acquire, is available in the Programme Specification for your degree. Layout, appearance and content are all important. The CV must be word-processed and MUST CONTAIN YOUR ABER EMAIL ADDRESS. Use all the information provided in the CS(CI,CC)18010 CV lecture handouts to help you with design and content. Your CV should not be more than 2 pages long. 3. Write a covering letter targeting your chosen position (20 marks) Identify for yourself those criteria you have that you feel the employer will be looking for in a candidate. Use them in your letter to stress how you fit the job. Your covering letter should be addressed fully. If the advert does not specify in detail who to send the application to, then you should use your initiative to find the correct address. 4. Submitting your assignment You should hand in your work electronically via Blackboard on or before 18:00, 15th March, 2013. Files should be in PDF format only. Blackboard opens 09:00 Friday 8th March for submissions.
