Challenges 7 Energy Future, What is in your future? Why the pressure on energy use will not go away World energy consumption has risen 45% since 1980. It is projected to be 70% higher by 2030. Emerging markets (including China and India) account for more than 75% of new demand placing new pressures on global resources. Meanwhile, mature markets such as North America, Europe and Japan will also face increased demand and limited resources. These mature markets will continue legislating to reduce consumption, shift to alternative energy sources, and improve energy security. Increased resources competition and political instability will cause oil and natural gas prices to remain at or above current levels for the foreseeable future. Coal will continue to be a cheap and plentiful resource especially in emerging markets. This will maintain pressure on reducing emissions and sustain the need for global climate change actions. More than ever, global warming is at the top of the agenda. Environmental concerns and public opinion on climate change will drive continued actions by legislators, opinion leaders, and special interest groups forcing industry to respond. The trends we see now will continue for the next 25 years. 42,9 N O N 30 30,9 64% O E C D 20 10 21,3 46% 54% 55% 45% 36% O E C D Quadrillion Btu 347 309 283 366 History 421 Projections 510 563 613 665 722 0 1900 1910 1920 1930 1940 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990 2010 2030 1980 1985 1990 1995 2003 2010 2015 2020 2025 2030 50% The required emissions reduction of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) to stabilize the greenhouse effect by 2050 30% Possible savings with today s technology that could reduce emissions or electrify the rest of the non electrified world We must learn to adapt and manage energy consumption, energy costs, and pollutants.

Challenges 9 We can all adapt to the new energy world Energy use reduction and management will be a continued focus of policy makers. Key targets for future policies will be: Limiting final energy consumption in all sectors. Measuring and tracking energy use to establish benchmarks and targets. Promoting alternative green energy sources and technologies Opening markets to promote emissions trading and demand reduction. Buildings and Industry offer the largest and most accessible opportunities for savings. Commit to understand the impact and opportunity in your business. Energy efficiency is the quickest, cheapest, cleanest way to extend our world s energy supplies. Industry Over 30% of consumed energy. Motors account for 60% of the electricity usage. Average facility can reduce its energy consumption by 10 to 20%. Buildings Over 20% of consumed energy and goring (EU & US). 3 key areas: HVAC, lighting & integrated building solutions. Technical projects can yield up to 30% of energy savings. Prepare & Understand Residential Over 20% of consumed energy (EU & US). Using energy efficient products may save 10% to 40% electricity. 30% Energy savings in 2020 could avoid the construction of 1000 new power plants Schneider Electric has made this commitment and we can help you.

Challenges 11 We can combine cost-oriented choices and environmental commitments Financial opportunities In buildings, cutting energy use by 30% yields the same bottom line benefits as a 3% increase in rental income or a 5% increase in net operating income. In hospitals reducing energy costs by 5% boosts earnings by a penny. In non-profit healthcare a $1 savings in energy equates to $20 in new revenue. In supermarkets reducing energy costs by 10% can boost profit margins by 6%. In full service hotels reducing energy costs 10% equates to an increase of $1.35 in average daily rate (ADR). In industry, experience shows non-energy benefits often exceed the value of the energy savings on energy efficiency projects. There is a positive correlation between energy efficiency and productivity. Estimation on non-energy benefits is crucial to project justification. Good environmental governance helps deliver better financial performance. A study by Innovest and the UK Environment Agency reported In 85% of the total number of case studies assessed we found a strong correlation between environmental governance and/or events, and financial performance. Energy management is a business decision. Improve your corporate bottom line while becoming an environmental leader. Repairs / Maintenance 23% Energy 30% 30% Energy is the single largest operating expense for commercial office buildings. Project Achievement : reduce energy required increase production reduce operating time, which saves direct labor and reduces ancillary operations save raw material improve product quality extend the life of equipment and supplies reduce cleaning and maintenance requirements increase system capacity decrease noise reduce emissions 19% Cleaning 18% Administrative 10% Others 30% Energy savings in a building can reduce overall operating cost by 10% Schneider Electric can help you understand your options.

Challenges 13 Opportunities are all around you, Measure and Analyse Energy management yields significant rewards to the bottom line. Decisions on investment criteria and payback can be balanced against the strategic sustainability vision of a company. Energy success demands an organisational process that improves business performance. Executive management must commit: - Formulate, communicate and embrace an energy management policy. - A champion committed and responsible to achieve results is needed. - Capable to monitor and impact change throughout the organisation. - Methods and tools to collect, analyse, and report energy information are necessary. - Detailed breakdowns are crucial to drive change. - Legislation may demand disclosure. FACILITY #2 Energy quality with power factor correction and harmonics filtering Most utilities have specific policies for billing for reactive energy. Price penalties are applied if the active power / apparent power ratio is not within the guidelines. Power Factor Correction solutions modify and control the reactive power to avoid utility penalties, and reduce overall kva demand. These solutions result in lowering utility power bills by 5 to 10%. Harmonics stress the electrical network and potentially damage equipment. Harmonic Filtering solutions are a means to reduce and eliminate the harmonics. They increase the service life of equipment up to 32% for singlephase machines, up to 18% for three phase machines and up to 5% for transformers. 2 PM800 3 PM800 PM700 FACILITY #3 CM4250 4 CM4250 5 ION7650 SER VICE ENTRANCE ION8600

Madrid Barrajas airport Spain Power Factor Correction: Varplus2, Varpact, Varlogic, Rectimat2 Every electric machine needs active and reactive power to operate. Power factor measurement identifies the level of reactive power and optimizes it to minimize cost and avoid penalties. If the power factor drops below the limit set by the utility (example in France: 0,92), then the power factor correction bank modifies the level to avoid penalties. By correcting poor power factor, these solutions also reduce kva demand. Reduced kva demand results in a 5 to 10%, lower utility power bill, cooler equipment operation and longer equipment life. In addition proper power factor correction helps optimize electrical network loading and improves reliability. Harmonic filtering: Varset, UPS Sinewave, Accusine Equipment such as drives, inverters, UPS, arc furnaces, transformers, filters and discharge lamps generate voltage distortion or harmonics. These harmonics stress the network, overload cables and transformers, cause outages and disturb many types of equipment such as computers, telephones, and rotating machines. The life of equipment can be greatly reduced. Harmonic filtering is a means to reduce and eliminate the harmonics. These solutions increase service life of equipment up to 32% for single-phase machines, up to 18% for three phase machines and up to 5% for transformers. Unplanned interruptions due to electrical system faults or power outages can generate heavy losses for businesses with critical operations: loss of production, loss of services, dangerous shutdowns, expensive energy intensive restarts, and overall loss of revenue. Unfortunately, utility supplied electricity is neither at the quality level nor at the availability level required by many customer applications. Solutions for critical application continuity reduce the impact of power outages, and prevent and avoid downtime based on the reliability and availability needs of a critical operation. Optimization of energy reliability and availability is designed into the installation based on life cycle needs, then implemented using the appropriate equipment, and supported with the necessary services to achieve customer goals.
