advocateandcommunity educator JENNY ALMQUIST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FIERCE FREEDOM EAU CLAIRE, WI Act now to get on the path to Gain skills and learn about successful resources unique to nonprofit nonprofit organizations leadership. In 2008 Jenny attended a presentation on human sex trafficking and couldn t believe what she was hearing and decided that she had to do something. Jenny started a retail business that raised funds for organizations that free men, women and children from human sex trafficking. That mission evolved and in 2012, she launched a non-profit organization, Fierce Freedom, to educate and raise awareness to human trafficking in the Chippewa Valley and in 2013 opened their office in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. During a networking function in Eau Claire, Jenny learned of the Nonprofit Management Certificate program offered through Continuing Education at UW- Eau Claire and considered a door to be opened. Jenny felt that her organization was falling behind and struggled with how to move the organization ahead and thought that this program would provide the opportunity to teach her how she could move the organization forward. I personally felt I was at the end of knowing how to grow our organization with the experience and knowledge that I had. The Nonprofit Management Certificate program has been very helpful to Fierce Freedom, because the Board and leadership team can see that I have a clear vision and I have tools to implement the plan. These programs enforced that I was on the right track. 2 Register Today! 6 continuing education

Experience some of the critical activities of the strategic planning process through a combination of small group activities, small and large group discussions and individual reflection. Hudson Thursday, April 7 The Hudson Hospital & Eau Claire Friday, May 13 Sleep Inn & Suites 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Nonprofit Strategic Planning provided lots of great, real-life scenarios. It gave me a better understanding of all of the pieces of a strategic plan. Nonprofit Strategic Planning Effective planning can help nonprofits achieve their goals while minimizing the resources and effort required to generate desired results. This workshop will provide you with a solid foundation in the principles of effective financial management and reporting including budgeting and maintaining internal controls. Hudson Friday, April 8 The Hudson Hospital & Eau Claire Friday, June 17 Sleep Inn & Suites 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Scott had a very down to earth personality that is contrary to most of my interaction with accountants. His persona made him more approachable. With less intimidation, I was able to ask questions that may have appeared to be common knowledge without reservation. Nonprofit Financial Management and Reporting No money, no mission. In a tight economy with increasing competition for donors and volunteers, that mantra is as true of nonprofit organizations as it ever has been. Leaders in nonprofit organizations often lack the financial expertise and experience they need to effectively manage scarce resources. This workshop will offer a system for managing nonprofit organizations that can be applied by even those new to the world of finance. You will learn how to: n Apply the concepts of sound financial management in a nonprofit organization n Understand key accounting terms and concepts n Leverage financial reporting to support strategic decision-making n Survive in a challenging regulatory environment n Understand the role of independent certified public accountants and the audit process SCOTT R. HAUMERSEN, CPA, is Managing Partner at Wegner LLP CPAs and Consultants. He has more than 25 years of experience providing accounting, auditing and not-for-profit advisory services to more than 500 nonprofit clients throughout Wisconsin. He is skilled in applying various forms of financial analysis and budgeting principles, as well as in cultivating productive relationships between management, boards and other stakeholders. www.uwec.edu/ce/programs/nonprofit/ 5

Now I have a better understanding and newfound confidence in my role as Executive Director. I have taken with me practical tools on how I can increase the engagement of my board. Nonprofit Volunteer and Board Member Management Leaders of nonprofit organizations get their work done through others most notably board members and volunteers. The day was well spent. Nonprofit Fund Development What do nonprofits need to survive and thrive? Money. Donations. Contributions. Successful fundraising is critical but, in a competitive environment, nonprofit leaders are increasingly challenged to develop the funding they need to sustain their organizations and achieve their missions. Leadership is not black and white with easily identified answers to complex problems. This session will provide you with a new model for managing the issues you face, not as problems to be solved but as issues to be managed. Eau Claire Thursday, May 12 Sleep Inn & Suites Hudson Thursday, June 2 The Hudson Hospital & 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Jean has an ability to relate to the class and subject matter. She was a wonderful instructor and extremely knowledgeable. The hands-on experiential learning helped bring the content to life. Thank you! Nonprofit Leadership Effectiveness Effective leadership is challenging for nonprofit leaders. In an environment of shrinking budgets and increasing competition, you need a strong foundation of skills and competencies to ensure your success and the success of your nonprofit. Hudson Friday, June 3 The Hudson Hospital & Eau Claire Thursday, June 16 Sleep Inn & Suites 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Sara is a very engaging trainer. The session was very educational, while being upbeat and fun at the same time. Nonprofit Marketing and Communication In a cluttered communication environment, nonprofits need to break through to connect and compel their audiences toward action whether seeking volunteers or fundraising. At this interactive program you ll learn how to: n Identify and effectively reach specific target market segments n Create an integrated marketing and communication plan designed to generate results n Use social media and social networks to engage with key audiences n Educate and inform both internal and external audiences n Avoid issues related to appropriate use of creative materials SARA ANTONSON has been the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley since July, 2006. mentorandmotivator KAYLA MIDTHUN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CHIPPEWA AREA MENTOR PROGRAM CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI As the Executive Director of the Chippewa Area Mentor Program, Kayla Midthun believes strongly about investing in the growth of the mentorship program and the education of the staff, volunteers and board members that make the program possible. When Kayla discovered the Nonprofit Management Certificate program she felt the sessions were applicable, well rounded and met her professional development needs. She benefited greatly from UW- Eau Claire Continuing Education courses in the past and felt that registering for this program would be a great investment in herself and her organization. Completing the Management Series gave me a sense of empowerment and confidence in my role as the leader of a nonprofit. Learning from experts in the industry and being able to discuss real situations, issues, or challenges specific to my program and get direct feedback was very helpful. The series also offered a great opportunity to network with other nonprofit leaders. There were opportunities to learn from each other, ask questions, and share ideas. The Chippewa Area Mentor Program provides a one-on-one relationship between a caring adult and a school-aged child in need of additional support. By committing to 30 minutes, mentors provide an effective way to help students build resilience and experience success both in school and in their personal lives. 10 Register Today!
