Academic Advisors will be available to answer questions in college specific chat rooms. Main Lobby pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Welcome all! abbymarieeee: Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to do a double major if you start at UF in the PaCE program? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): We have representatives from several colleges online right now... pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Please open the chatrooms (on top) for any colleges you wish to talk to! I'll hang out in the main lobby as well and help direct pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Judy is in the Journalism Chat Room pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): AL and Herschel are in CALS (Agricultural and Life Sciences) pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Leigh is in Business vheilman: Arts and Sciences? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Lynn and I are in CLAS (Liberal Arts and Sciences) pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): Hi everyone! I'm Judy -- College of Journalism and Communications. We offer degrees in Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism and Telecommunication. kfilson: How do we see those? I'm having trouble seeing any way to get there... Ernest0321: Hello, I wanted to verify that Bright Futures Scholarship still applies to Pace program? kfilson: I only see a tab for "Lobby" pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): on the top above that, toward the right, there should be a green circle with a plus button that says Add more chatrooms kfilson: I see a green circle, but the text is 'typed over' so to speak and can't read it kfilson: It does not allow us to click on the green circle rorochi123: yes I can't click it either vheilman: the text is covering it and wont let me press abbymarieeee: I am having the same problem familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Welcome my name is Jaime Gresley and I serve as the Associate Dean of Students here at UF welcome! lorder: Yeah, I'm having the same problem with text covering it pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @abbymarieeee: Double majoring is possible in PaCE, though students would probably do that on campus when they transition kfilson: Only thing that appears to be clickable is the LOGOUT. abbymarieeee: okay great. Is it possible to change our majors from the ones we had originally put on our UF applications? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @Ernest: Student Financial aid at www.sfa.ufl.edu can answer all financial questions familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): Hi everyone, I'm Associate Director in New Student & Family Programs in the Dean of Students Office. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): for those of you trying to enter in to the college chat rooms you can do so my selecting on Add more chats and there will be a drop down Lobby

PaigeFry: For people trying to find the drop down menu: look for the arrow pointing down in the right hand corner, click it, that's the drop down menu. vheilman: Will pace participants be to participate in workstudy on campus? Will they also have access to Student assistant services, like peer mentoring and tutoring services on campus. rorochi123: guys it worked for me now just try clicking it as soon as you see the pointer thing kfilson: thanks jsackett: I am using Google Chrome. I just clicked on the down arrow and it let me select the other rooms. cassmom1: Hello, we have FL prepaid. Would my son's account get the savings (difference) in the cost of tuition or would he lose that amount? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @abbymarie: it is possible to change majors as long as it's within PaCE, please talk to an advisor in the college you're interested in abbymarieeee: okay, thank you! kfilson: not it won't work again rorochi123: If you transition into campus with a PaCE major, are you able to switch to a regular major once on campus? abbymarieeee: Overall, what are the limitations of PaCE students on campus? vheilman: Will pace participants be to participate in workstudy on campus? Will they also have access to Student assistant services, like peer mentoring and tutoring services on campus. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @cassmom: Prepaid is handled through the Bursar's office and they are ready to talk to folks about PaCE. Phone numbers are 352-392-0765 or 352-392-9545 jfburket: I have heard different things regarding the ability to participate in intramural sports. Will PaCE students actually be able to participate on a team? lorder: The brochure received in the mail today refers to "campus-based learning". Does that mean, while in PaCE you can take classes on another campus (school) or does that refer to being on campus after the 60 hours has been met? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi: there is no guaranteed for any UF student to change majors after 60 hours, it will up to the college that offers the major and decided on a case-by-case basis pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): vheilman: workstudy would be a Financial Aid question www.sfa.ufl.edu abbymarieeee: are we allowed to do club sports as PaCE students? vheilman: Will they also have access to Student assistant services, like peer mentoring and tutoring services on campus. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): Hey folks, my name is Lynn O'Sickey and I'm an advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @vheilman: UF Online students have access to smarthinking.com 24/7, as well as the UF writing center and UF teaching center for tutoring services familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): The CARE Team offers lots of great ways for students to receive individual support, including mentor program and one on one success coaching jfburket: Will there be a chat in the future that will include advisors from the college of Design, Construction, and Planning? Lobby

familychatadministrator(nsfp_arie): @AbbyMarieeee Re:Club Sports and Rec Center Access: PaCE students will have to pay an additional fee to use the Recreational Centers. In reference to Club Sports, each sport has guidelines for membership that are based off of their national governing boards, so it will depend on the sport. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Thanks vheilman for the question hope that helps! abbymarieeee: thank you! Does anyone know if we can begin our classes in the summer? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jfburket: probably not, but the contact there is Andrew Wehle at wehleaj@ufl.edu familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): jfburket: if a student opps to purchase the rec sports pass that does include access to participate in intramurals familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @jfburket, we will work on includingdcp in our future chats. Additionally, you can find there direct contact information on their website (http://www.dcp.ufl.edu/academics/academicadvising) jfburket: I understand the membership fee for the rec center, but does that membership also allow a student to actually participate on an intramural team? The website mentions having a valid Gator 1 card. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @abby: students cannot begin UF courses until fall 2015 familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): jburket, yes it does allow students to participate in intramurals. jfburket: Thank you familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): jfburket: that is a great question and we love seeing our Gators stay healthy and active! Rec Sports is a great way to do that! cassmom1: My son is planning to major in history. Would he be able to participate in the History and Latin clubs? Are these or similar clubs available online, too? lorder: What are the possible ways that the 60 hours can be accomplished? I know we can get AP credits, but can we take classes at another campus? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Cassmom1: yes PaCE students are able to participate with student organizations. The organizations involvement opportunities vary per group. Your student is welcome to reach out to learn more https://ufl.collegiatelink.net/ pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @lorder - I'm working on that response... lorder: Ok thank you rorochi123: Is it recommended for PaCE students to live off campus or would they not get the same experience as regular freshmen at UF? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Hi Welcome to the PaCE chat! If you are just joining feel free to ask questions in this general lobby or to the specific colleges found on the top right (under add more chatrooms) pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @lorder: Students may be permitted to dual enroll after discussion with their advisor during their advising/registration appointment over the summer. It is up to the student s college. In CLAS, it will be approved based on the student s interests and goals and courses available in UFOnline for Fall. This will be a very individualized process. If the courses are to be taken in the Florida public system, and the courses are approved via a transient request through FLVC. isorresso: For the years we are in PaCE we aren't allowed dorm rooms, but once we are done with the 60 credits, are we guaranteed housing? If so, are we considered as a freshman or a sophomore in terms of getting dorms? rwagoner97: When do you expect to have all the transition requirement posted for all the majors. Lobby

familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): rwagoner97, those are college specific. You can ask in the chat room for the college you are interested in OR if that college is not participating, you can contact them directly. Let me know what college if it is not represented on this chat. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): rorochi123 great question. While completing the online requirement students will not have access to on campus housing however they will have the opportunity to apply to on campus housing when they transition to campus. Here are some great UF resources for Off Campus Housing http://www.offcampus.ufl.edu/ pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @ehargadon: PaCEstudents can participate in intramurals and student organizations. Check our college webpage for a list of student organizations:http://my.jou.ufl.edu/students/category/student-organizations/ jfburket: How are classes with labs conducted? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jfburket: it varies from class to class. some may have a virtual lab, some may have an on-campus "boot camp" lab, and some may have a hybrid model revdocpam: yes, many classes in several majors require labs. How can that be handled? Can they do the class online and do the lab onsite if they are living in g'ville? lorder: Ok, thank you for the answer. What if you are an undecided or exploratory major? Who would I speak to about dual enrollment in the state system? familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @isorresso, once PaCE students transition to campus, they can apply for housing. There is not necessarily a guarantee of housing. Housing will work with PaCE students interested in living on campus once they transition, and they will sending out more information soon. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): jfburket and revdocpam: during your online classes all courses are fully online pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @revdocpam: it varies based on class and how it is structured. As it gets closer to registration we can discuss courses specifically at the college level pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @lorder: if you're willing to pop over to the LIberal Arts room, you can get faster answers from Lynn vheilman: hmm... it says on the offer letter housing is guaranteed... jfburket: So are there no lab courses online? Or will the student have to perform the lab at home? isorresso: We were just curious because my parents paid for two years of dorms through pre-paid, so I didn't know what would happen to that money if I wasn't in a dorm. vheilman: very imporant question that I need to know as well. Labs...if labs need to be done on campus for some courses, my child has to live in gainsville? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jfburket: some courses have labs that are done virtually and sometimes there are at home portions to be completed. It depends on the specific course. Your advisor can help when registering for courses lorder: I would like to, but the green button is covered by text. I will log out and log back in through a different browser familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @lorder, sorry about that, I can answer here. Stick around. vheilman: try to maximize your screen...it may help your curser catch the button lorder: Ok thank you familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): vheilman: UFHousing will work with each student to best meet needs and be intentional in creating optimal living experiences, for specific details you can contact Housing at 352-392-2161 if this is in connect to FL Pre Paid you will want to connect with the Office of Financial Affairs at 352-392-1275<a title="call: 352-392-1275" style="margin: 0px Lobby

pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @vheilman: even for the "boot camp" labs (of which there are not many), students still do not have to live in Gainesville. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @lorder, exploratory students are advised by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. So we will work with you on your fall course schedule, etc. during your summer advising/registration appointment. vheilman: but some courses require on site labs though? lorder: Alright. Thank you vheilman: Are there groups or programs available to help pace students get together or maybe share off site housing together near campus? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @vheilman: most courses do not require onsite courses. if your student is interested in a course that has a boot camp lab, he/she can work out the timing of taking that course with his/her advisor familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Vheilman Off Campus has a few options to help connect off campus students http://www.offcampus.ufl.edu/, Nora Kilroy the Director is phenomenal too and is always happy to meet one on one or over the phone to help familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Here is the link with more information on how to find off campus roommates https://housing.offcampus.ufl.edu/ jfburket: Is there a new student "Preview"? vheilman: 25 percent is off of all tuition rate? or tuition and fees? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): vheilman: while completing the online requirement PaCE students tuition cost does not include fees familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @vheilman, here's the cost of attendance info for PaCE students: http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/uf-online/cost-of-attendance/ familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @jfburket, their is an online orientation called Links. Links is specifically designed orientation to help students transition to the online campus format. When PaCE students are ready to transition to on campus, they will go through Preview. We will be sending information regarding completing Links later on this Spring. jfburket: I read somewhere that PaCE students will get a Gator 1 card. How is it different from other students? revdocpam: My daughter is going to live in the home we own in g'ville and we would like to find her 3 female pace students to room with her, so they could have a "living/learning" community together as pace students as they begin their life as Gators. vheilman: revdocpam: please contact me at: valentineheilman@aim.com isorresso: I am an IB student, and was wondering how they will determine how many credits will be accepted based on my test scores? Also, how many/ what type of IB credits can count towards a Journalism major? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @vheilman, if you look at the UFOnline website it explains the three fees you pay as well as the tuition: http://ufonline.ufl.edu/tuition/ * Fees consist of a $5.25 Financial Aid fee, a $5.25 Technology fee and a $6.76 Capital Improvement fee per credit hour. familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @jfburket, as part of the Links Orientation, PaCE students will have the opportunity to get a Gator 1 (ID) Card. Currently this card will distinguish them as being part of the UFO program. When PaCE students are ready to transition to campus, they will have the opportunity to get an updated Gator 1 Card at their Preview orientation. Lobby

familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): isorresso great question, Lynn or Meredith will be able to assist you familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @isrresso, working on your IB question rwagoner97: when do you expect to start summer advising appointments isorresso: Thank you! rwagoner97: Will we be notified or do we pick the date pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rwagoner97 - it depends on the college, but for LIberal Arts and Sciences, it will be mid-may or later pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rwagoner: students will go through the LINKS orientation and then will be able to make advising appointments to get set up with Fall classes once they have completed LINKS rorochi123: For those people who choose the option to live off campus because they want to have the freshman experience, how will they find out about gator events or happenings that those residential students in UF would know about? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @isorresso, Credits are determined by your scores, you typically get more credit the higher you score. The current courses that we gave credit for based on IB scores for (for this current year's class) can be found at: https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/advising/info/ib-examination-creditinfo.aspx However, these equivalencies are updated every year by the state, so there may be some changes for you. We'll have the updated info in the new catalog which will post on May 1. familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @rwwagoner97, we won't begin completing advising appointments until after the May 1 confirmation date. Links, your online orientation, will be available prior to that. familychatadministrator(nsfp_arie): @rorichi123, UF has a great service called the Gator Times. It is emailed to current students, but anyone can see the weekly events at http://gatortimes.ufl.edu/ KChop12: Are there any required Campus visits? Student Card or Advising? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @KChop12, advising will be offered via distance since UFOnline does not require students to be in Gainesville. Jeff2015: Is there a plan to try to get some of the "Off Campus" living in Gainesville together? isorresso: Will all of the credits I earn from the exams be counted towards the 60 needed for PaCE? Or will UF have to determine it themselves? ade2015: I have a similar question regarding the IB and AP credits. Is it similar to the regular on campus program? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): KChop12: PaCE students will be required to complete an online orientation called LINKS, as well as an advising appointment. Once your student transitions to campus they will then come to an oncampus orientation design specifically for their needs IsabellaBobadilla: If you're a student considering living with another PaCe student check out the UF PaCe class of 2019 on Facebook. I joined and i'm messaging with potential roommates. KChop12: Thank you, how do they receive their student card? Lobby

familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @isorresso, yes all of the credits will count toward the 60. The maximum credits you can earn via AP/IB is 45 credits. Keep in mind too transition to campus, students must meet the transition requirements: complete two terms of UFOnline courses, at least 15 UFOnline credits, 60 credits total, meet transition requirements for PaCE major. If it's a CLAS major you must also meet all CLAS progression standards e.g., successfully completing required courses for the major within two attempts, and so on familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @ade2015, yes, the credit by exam will work the same... familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): KChop12, they will receive their first UF Gator 1 ID Card once they complete LINKs once they transition to campus and attend Preview they will get their new on campus Gator 1 ID card rorochi123: Once on campus, can students: KChop12: When time, will an advisor set up a schedule to include remaining Community College and UF Online (15 credits) courses after AP / CLEP credits? isorresso: If I were to hypothetically begin PaCE with 45 credits, and the program must span two semesters, how will the remaining 15 credits be broken up? rorochi123: once on campus can students switch majors to a non-pace major? rorochi123: also, can we minor? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi: there is no guaranteed for any UF student to change majors after 60 hours, it will up to the college that offers the major and decided on a case-by-case basis. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi: minors can be pursued while in PaCE, if the courses are available. otherwise, you can start the minor when you get to campus. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): KChop12, students will confirm by May 1, then they will complete their LINKS orientation and then they will have an advising appointment with their college. In that appointment, they will discuss incoming credits, they will what to take in UFOnline and whether to take any courses at another institution. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): isorresso: PaCE offers a lot of flexibility on how you will complete the 15 credits and you are also able to take more than 15 hours over the course of the 2 semesters if you want KChop12: Thank you. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @isorresso, you are required to enroll for two terms, how you split the credits between the two terms will be a very individual discussion between you and your advisor based on your interests and goals. revdocpam: My daughter's school got out at 3, but it is a 45 minute drive, so she is missing all this. Will this chat be viewable later? rwagoner97: does advising offer a career exploration class? rorochi123: Once transitioning, are we going to ever get in contact with regular students in any class or are we always going to be with rorochi123: Pace students? Surfers4: HonorsCollege? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Rwagoner97: there are several great options for students to explore careers pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rwagoner: There isn't a specific course, but we have lots of exploratory resources and we also have the Career Resource Center to help students make a great major decision Lobby

jfburket: I see there is only a BA in Business offered. Would there be a way to transition into the BS program after the 60 hrs or would it be too late? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @rorochi123, once you have transitioned, you will be a residential student and your experience will be the same as all residential students. isorresso: Is there an hour requirement per semester for PaCE students? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): The first is our CareerResource Center which offers CHOMP on online assessment to help identify careers of interests familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): They also do one on one advising. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jfburket: hop over to the Business room and Leigh can help you jfburket: I'm one of the ones that can't add rooms. Maybe because I'm on a Mac? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @Surfers4, working on your question. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): in addition students are able to register for a one credit transition course called First Year Florida that covers not only career exploration but so much more! familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @rorochi123, changing your major is typically based on what term you are in, students within their first 5 terms as a UF student have more flexibility changing their major, than does a student who has entered into their upper-division terms (6+) pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @revdocpam: we have chats twice per week for the next few weeks (including some evening ones), so there are lots of opportunities to get this information rorochi123: @CLAS_Lynn "once you have transitioned, you will be a residential student and your experience will be the same as all residential students." rwagoner97: NSFP_Jaime: is the First Year Florida course offered online? How do you access CHOMP before fall? rorochi123: Leigh in business has told me otherwise! pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @isorresso: there's not an hours minimum to take per term jfburket: Will there be classes offered NEXT summer? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Yes First Year Florida is offered online and Kris who is on with us as well as myself could be your instructor! As for CHOMP that can be accessed http://www.crc.ufl.edu/students/studentchomp.htmlwith a Gatorlink username and password... so you could start now! pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi: each college decides how they will handle possible changes of major once on campus. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @Surfers4, I don't believe students can transition into the honors program because they take students only prior to enrollment and in the first term. http://www.honors.ufl.edu/ rwagoner97: what happens if the tracking class you need is not offered online. For example, Architecture Design 1, 2, and 3. Do you have to take 60hrs and then wait 3 more semesters before you can enter upper division? Usually these classes require critiques. revdocpam: so pretty much after an advisor works with the student on the intended major, as long as 15 hours of study is done at UFOnline and it is done over 2 semesters minimum, the rest of the classes for the critical tracking could come from SFCC or another CC? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jfburket: there will be classes available all year long in PaCE/UF Online. Offerings will change term by term familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): rwagoner97, that is really a question for that college. You can contact: Andrew Wehle wehleaj@ufl.edu or Pat De Jong patricde@dsc.ufl.edu Lobby

rorochi123: so once in campus we are NOT allowed to switch into any other major NOT offered by PaCE? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): revdocpam, that depends on the approval of the students college/advisor. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi: that depends on the college and chosen major. Each college determines how they approach this question. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): revdocpam, for example if a tracking course is offered in UFOnline, your college may prefer you take the UF course. rorochi123: which college would give me the freedom to choose what I want to study without confining me to PaCE once I'm in campus? pacechatmoderator(cals_al): @rorochi123 The Food and Resource Economics Department has an Agribusiness degree that could be an option if you meet the programs critical tracking requirements, etc. You would have to apply for a change of major. There is a process, but it is not a guarantee. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @Rorochi: reach out to any college who has a major you're interested in (ex: CALS if the Agribusiness major is appealing) thenextstep: Does anyone have any information about perusing a telecommunications major through PaCE? Jeff2015: In PaCE, are we guaranteed upper division once we are finished with the 60 hours? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jeff2015: please pop over to the Journalism chat room and Judy can help you familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): Jeff2015, To transition to campus, students must meet the transition requirements: complete two terms of UFOnline courses, at least 15 UFOnline credits, 60 credits total, meet transition requirements for the PaCE major. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @thenextstep: please pop over to Journalism to talk to Judy Surfers4: From what I have been reading, all pre-clinical or pre-med students are advised not to do PaCE. Is this correct? thenextstep: What would be the best way to connect fellow PaCE students, to possibly form study groups, form class room sessions? These are for the PaCE students who are going to living off campus, like myself. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @Surfers4: Most medical, dental, and other professional schools do not accept online classes for pre-requisite courses, therefore to be the most competitive applicant, and to have the widest array of schools to apply to, we recommend all pre-requisite classes be taken in a traditional classroom setting at the university level. Students who choose to take pre-requisite courses online despite this recommendation should check the policies of the professional schools they plan to apply to carefully to be sure they accept online pre-requisite courses. Most students apply to 15+ medical schools in order to maximize their chances of acceptance, given Surfers4: Psychology is also not an offered major correct? isorresso: What types of classes might I be taking if I were a Journalism student in the PaCE program? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @isorresso, are you able to get into the Journalism chatroom? pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @surfers: Psychology is not offered in PaCE, and is not a major that students can transition to campus in. Psychology is available in the 100% UF Online format (not through PaCE - no transition to campus). If you want to pursue Psychology, we do not recommend PaCE since it is not offered vheilman: If a student scores higher SATtests, and demonstrates excellent performance after first semester...could they apply for regular admission again? Lobby

isorresso: Is this not the Journalism chatroom...? PaigeFry: For PaCE kids wanting to connect with other PaCE kids, hop on over to our Facebook Group, PaCE Class of 2019 at the University of Florida! familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @Surfer4, it cut off, here's the rest: given the increasingly competitive nature of admittance. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @vheilman, any reconsideration requests should be sent to UF Admissions at freshman@ufl.edu isorresso: Found it! Sorry! thenextstep: Are PaCE students allowed to form their own clubs or organizations at UF? Jeff2015: OK. So after I have met the transition requirements. Then, I will be in a college that I have worked towards pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @jeff2015: assuming you meet the PaCE transition requirements and the program requirements for the chosen major, you should be set to transition. Your advisor can go over the specifics when you register. smourad1: So there is no certain amount of required classes per semester through PaCE? As long as you complete 60 hours, through AP/IB & UFOnline? Just confirming familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @thenextstep, a lot of online classes will allow opportunities for students to connect with each other to form study groups. additionally, some students may connect with each other through the PaCE. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): thenextstep: yes absolutely! You need 10-20 members 2 officers and a constitution. Student Activities and Involvement are great and can help too https://www.studentinvolvement.ufl.edu/student-organizations pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @smourad: that is a correct, albeit broad statement. Semester plans will be discussed with your advisor> familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris):...through the PaCE facebook page thenextstep: @NSFP_Jamie This is great, since I'll be staying off campus ( Windsor Hall) I might just carry my lap- top to campus and take the classes in the library, to get that college "experience". rorochi123: Yes! join PaCE class of 2019 at the University of Florida on Facebook! smourad1: Are we allowed to take courses in the summer at a community college to get ahead with the credits requirement for PaCE? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): It is allowable, but please have an individual discussion with an advisor in your major/college before you register. thenextstep: Are we alowed to use the CRC ( Career Resource Center) as PaCE students, to possibly pursue an internship/job in our desired field of study? jfburket: How will the student get a picture on their Gator 1 card? Or is there no picture for PaCE students? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Hi PaCE chat participants! We are so excited to have you become members of our UF Gator Family! I know that you will have questions along the way. These chats are one great way to learn more but as you can see here at UF there are lots of great faculty and staff dedicated to helping students be successful...so please reach out and ask! familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): You can always contact newstudentinfo@dso.ufl.edu familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): thenextstep, check out the Career Services for UFOnline students: http://ufonline.ufl.edu/resources/student-affairs/ familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): or feel free to call us at 352-392-8396 Lobby

familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): thenextstep: yes Career Resource Center is absolutely open to you as a resource in fact it remains open to you even after your graduate! smourad1: Yes i plan on that. Also, would summer B courses be acceptable? I believe they end around July 31 familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @smourad1, you mean before you enroll in PaCE? If so, then yes, it is allowable but you would want to have an individual discussion with an advisor in your major/college before you register. familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): thenextstep: and don't forget both Marston and Library West have starbucks to help fuel late night study sessions:) vheilman: can pace students work on campus in general? smourad1: Okay thank you! familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): vheilman: yes you can go to jobs.ufl.edu to see a full list of positions, to learn more about work study you will want to connect with Financial Aid at 352-392-1275 thenextstep: Is there any way that off-campus PaCE students ( Ones living in thegainesvillearea), could particiate or get involved with the UFTheater, or even the UF Symphony Orchestra, or the marching band? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): thenextstep: you will want to connect with each of those groups independently please let me know if you need help getting their contact information (JaimeG@dso.ufl.edu) pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @thenextstep: anything that requires registration in an on campus course, like marching band, will not be doable until after the student transitions to residential rwagoner97: NSFP_Jaime: When will First Year Florida be offered? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): rwagoner97 First Year Florida is offered every term us12356: Can a transcript of this session be obtained for those of us that have logged in late? thenextstep: What does our UF I.D. look like, is it going to be similar to a residential student? familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): @thenextstep, all Gator 1 (ID) Cards are similar, but have distinct characteristics depending on the population they are issued to. familychatadministrator(nsfp_arie): We will post the transcripts by the end of next week at >http://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campus-enrollment/ us12356: Thank you jfburket: I have read that students may or may not be able to join a fraternity/sorority (depending on the particular organization). Is there a central contact that we may email or call to get a list of those frats that will accept PaCE students? isorresso: Any idea when we will know how many other students out of the 3,118 have accepted the PaCE invitation, and how many will be living in Gainesville, and how we could get together? familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Jfburket: sorority and fraternity affairs is housed by our Student Activities and Involvement Office to learn about specific greek organizations you can contact Phone: 352-392- 1671 rplasencia: Can the student change major once done with the 60 credit? for example from journalism to broadcasting isorresso: I know I only just received my Welcome packet this afternoon. rorochi123: so practically, after asking most moderators on here, we PaCE students have been issued new restrictions meaning we are not allowed to switch into ANY regular classes (not PaCE) once in campus? Lobby

familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): We will be wrapping up the chat in the next 5 minutes. The transcripts for today's chat will be posted by the end of next week (http://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campusenrollment/). Please join us for our next PaCE chat on Wednesday, February 25, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): Hi everyone! I have to go, but please contact us at advising@jou.ufl.edu, or join me in the chat on Friday, Feb. 27th. PaigeFry: Final question, why were certain students chosen to be in the PaCE program instead of the traditional campus? Was it at random or because we all were just slightly under the average applicants? I understand the limited space situation, but I'm still curious what made some students get into the traditional program over the others. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): rplasencia, you can email Judy at the address below or join as for the next chat. rplasencia: CLAS_Lynn, don't see an email address. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): @rorochi123, again, you may NOT be able to change to any major once on campus, but your WILL have access to all residential classes that you are eligible to take. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): @rorochi123 That's just not correct. You WILL have access to same courses anyone else will rorochi123: Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!:) familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): PaigeFry, I'm afraid that's a question for the Admissions Office. PaigeFry: Okay, thank you. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): rplasencia, advising@jou.ufl.edu familychatadministrator(nsfp_jaime): Paige:All students admitted to UF are reviewedunderand must meet the same admission standards. Talk with academic advisors, faculty and staff while learning more about UF's PaCE program. This chat is for newly admitted PaCE students and family members. Academic Advisors will be available to answer questions in college specific chat rooms. College of Agricultural and Life Sciences pacechatmoderator(cals_al): How are you pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): Wonderful! pacechatmoderator(cals_al): I have a question for you Herschel pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): Yes? pacechatmoderator(cals_al): Welcome to the CALS PaCE chat. This is Dr Wysocki and Herschel Johnson. pacechatmoderator(cals_al): Good afternoon. Any questions we can answer for you? revdocpam: hi. My daughter is interested in pre-med, via a biology major. But she is also interested in a botany/plant science major. Crop production, etc. What route would she need to take for that? pacechatmoderator(cals_al): We are glad you joined us today. I am planning on sending out a detailed email later today explaining PaCE. aguada: Hi, similar to previous question: Will the Microbiology students be allowed to take classes that required labs (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) at state colleges in order to avoid hampering its future is the Health field? Dr. Dr. Allen Wysocki mentioned that it was being discussed. pacechatmoderator(cals_al): Revdpcam, Biology is only in PaCE as a BA, which means they are not positioning it as a major for professional schools. We do have Plant Science and Botany in PaCE. What are your daughter's career goals? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @aguada yes we will work with students on an individual basis to put together the best plan but students will be able to get Science w/labs at state colleges/community colleges as a transient student with UF being the home institution revdocpam: my daughter wants to live in g'ville in our home we own there, and do her online 2 semesters there. but what about labs/field work for classes that she would need to be doing? Can the lab part happen on campus? revdocpam: her intended major is medicine, but she is rethinking that kind of commitment. So she is thinking either a crop production/genetic plant engineering/or maybe even landscape architect. Not sure not that she is wandering off the intended pre-med area pacechatmoderator(cals_al): Regarding labs, courses that have labs as part of UF Online may use a Bootcamp approach. Some may be at a level were they think they can make it work using distance such as BSC 2010 L. There is always an option in our majors to take the critical tracking courses like Bio and Chem at a local State College such as Santa Fe College pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @revdocpam she will work closely with an adviser through this process but can change majors after 60 hours and once on campus if all tracking requirements are met. Many of the programs you mention and are options with similar requirements so the transition shouldn't be too difficult. revdocpam: if they have to hit 2 semesters and 60 hours, if she is coming in with 28-30 hours already, and she must get 30 hours online then taking critical tracking hours at a CC will blow her number of hours way over 60 won't it? It means the 2 semesters online will be credits in excess of what is needed to move to onsite classes, eh? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @revdocpam No. it is a total of 60 with combination of previous credits, at least 15 online over two semesters with UF online and can take critical tracking at the CC toward the 60 need to transition to campus...hope that makes sense! vheilman: is this the animal services chat room too? Agricultural and Life Sciences

pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman Yes Animal Sciences is Agricultural and Life Sciences...how can we help? vheilman: I'm needing to get clairification pace program and working on campus/off campus. Does the animal services department have opportunities for work study students? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman It would depend on opportunities offered by the Animal Sciences for work study and eligibility as verified by the Financial Aid office...so you would need to check with Financial Aid initially. AS may periodically have opportunities but I cannot say at this time for sure. aguada: hi, Is Animal Biology part of PaCE majors? (some web pages mentioned it but other not) pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @aguada Yes Animal Biology is the offering as part of the Animal Science program and many websites have been updated to hopefully reflect the offering aguada: Thanks pacechatmoderator(cals_al): @aguada the link to the CALS PaCE opportunities with is http://cals.ufl.edu/students/pace-majors.php vheilman: are tutoring services available to pace students on campus or through the department? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman Yes. The UF Teaching Center will be available on campus and there is support through UF Online in the form of smarthinking.com vheilman: is the UF teacher center different than the tutoring department that offers one to one tutoring on campus? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman The Teaching Center does offer one on one support as well as group sessions pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): teachigcenter.ufl.edu pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): oops www teachingcenter.ufl.edu pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): https://teachingcenter.ufl.edu vheilman: is this a free service? pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman Yes! there are no additional fees for these services. pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): How are you all feeling about the PaCE option? rorochi123: Hello! rorochi123: I would like to find out more about the Agribusiness major! vheilman: Pace option is not the first preferred option, but more support is needed for those who want to move to gainesville and live off site. pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman I understand but it is an opportunity to attend UF that would otherwise not be available. What type of support are you looking for? Housing? pacechatmoderator(cals_al): @rorochi123 Here is the link to the Undergraduate catalog that tells you a little about the major https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/agriculture/majors/food-and-resourceeconomics.aspx#3. Take a look at that and I am always happy to have you call me. My office is in the Dean's office 352-392-1963 and ask for an appointment. vheilman: Housing, on campus opportunites like peer support or other more on campus options. I think if she can work on campus, that may help..thru her workstudy pacechatmoderator(cals_herschel): @vheilman Completely understandable. There will be some on campus clubs/organizations students can join for networking and support. We will need to figure out work study opportunities and program advisers will be in communication as needed. rorochi123: hello I would like to have something cleared up that wasn't on the other places: rorochi123: once in PaCE, and having transitioned to campus, we are treated like normal residential students, right? rorochi123: why are they saying that we are not allowed to switch into any regular or normal majors once on campus? wasn't that the deal? Agricultural and Life Sciences

pacechatmoderator(cals_al): @rorchi123 Absolutely and I would hope you feel like a UF student in the PaCE program as well. For many online classes our faculty will not even know the difference between you as a UF Online PaCE student and a GNV Web student. rorochi123: right revdocpam: rorochi123 it seems that pace students will be herded into a separate track forever...beyond just the first 60 hours. my impression was that once the 60 hours were done, for all practical purposes, you WERE are regular student. This is the first I have heard of this restrictions. rorochi123: ^^^^yes!!! rorochi123: what are these new restrictions about? vheilman: wait what?? vheilman: they can change majors after they transition right? regular students correct? pacechatmoderator(cals_al): @rorochi123 in defense of our friends in the college of business, many majors have very tight requirements to get the degree finished by 120 credit hours and they may be worried that if you don't take the correct sequence of courses, you will have to spend a lot of extra time to graduate etc. Programs and colleges make these decisions based on a number of factors including space in programs, etc. revdocpam: it seems once you are in the pace program - you there all the way to the pomp and circumstance at the O'Dome...or is graduation on line too :( pacechatmoderator(cals_al): And by the way, these guidelines are no different than what our freshmen on campus students face when they decide to change majors. Some changes are easy and others problematic. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Graduation will be like any other residential student! We'll see our PaCE students in the O Dome! vheilman: after they are on campus, they are allowed to have regular access to everything right? they are no longer pace students after that right? familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): We will be wrapping up the chat in the next 5 minutes. The transcripts for today's chat will be posted by the end of next week (http://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campusenrollment/). Please join us for our next PaCE chat on Wednesday, February 25, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Correct. Once students transition to residential, there are no differences at all vheilman: ok, thank you pacechatmoderator(clas_meredith): Great questions, thank YOU rorochi123: except that we cannot do a regular major rorochi123: right? thenextstep: this ^ pacechatmoderator(cals_al): We are truly excited about this new program and opportunity to reach more students and welcome to the Gator Nation Agricultural and Life Sciences

Talk with academic advisors, faculty and staff while learning more about UF's PaCE program. This chat is for newly admitted PaCE students and family members. Academic Advisors will be available to answer questions in college specific chat rooms. rorochi123: Hello! College of Business Administration pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Hi everyone! My name is Leigh Smadbeck and congratulations on your PaCE acceptance! I am here to answer any questions you have about the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Jupiter035: Hello Jupiter035: Can any online courses be taken this summer? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): You are allowed to take courses this summer at any institution as a transient student. Which courses you take this summer will depend on which courses you already have credit for from high school. For individualized scheduling questions, I would be happy to set up appointments with you to help you figure it out. Jupiter035: Thank you pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): If anyone is interested in setting up an appointment, the best way to do that is by emailing me at leigh.smadbeck@warrington.ufl.edu. rorochi123: what does "transient" specify? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Sure, good question. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): "Transient" means that you are not a degree-seeking student at the other institution. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Your "home" institution is UF, but we will allow you to take classes at a "host" institution, where you are considered a transient student. kfilson: Are there examples of what an online course will be like? kfilson: Are lectures able to be viewed online? What are exams and assignments like? Any group projects? rorochi123: Oh alright! so if we do that during the summer, our credits earned there would transfer into the pace program? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Another good question! Taking an online class through UF Online is the same as taking an online class while a resident student at UF. There is an online platform that allows you to submit assignments and have class discussions. The lectures will be posted there and you may watch them whenever you like. The lectures are recorded here at the UF campus, so it's the real deal. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Exams through UF Online are proctored completely online as well. MarkM: Are we allowed to take classes in the Summer of 2016? MarkM: Like online to get our last few credits to get 60 pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Hi Mark. You are definitely allowed to take classes in the Summer of 2016. You are even allowed to take classes at another institution during the Summer of 2015. The credits you earn during the Summer of 2015 will count towards the 60 hours you must complete before transitioning to campus. kfilson: Is there an overall view somewhere of what the course studies look like for a business major? At what point, for instance, will the students be diving into business courses? Are the first 'two' years gen ed type classes? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Remember, you need to complete at least 15 hours through UF in order to transition. In addition, you need to complete all Universal Tracking courses (there are seven of them) with a 3.0 Tracking GPA. Business Administration

pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): For all Business students (on campus or UF Online), students typically will take Universal Tracking courses and General Education courses first, and then begin taking the Business Core classes after that. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Let me send everyone some links that will help cover what we've already discussed. Just a moment. MarkM: How long do you estimate it would take to take all of those tracking courses? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): For more information on what the process looks like when taking courses at another institution for credit, please click here: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/myheavener/transient.asp kfilson: In an appointment with you, is it then that we will learn if my son's AP credits will be 'counted' towards the 60 required? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): For an overview of the requirements to transition to campus, please click here: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/academics/admissions/pace.asp Jupiter035: Can we audit classes in person at UF in Gainesville if we are taking the course online? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Here is the BABA major overview in the course catalog for the current academic year. This will give you the breakdown of the curriculum. There is a recommended semester plan towards the bottom: https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/business/majors/business-administration-general.aspx rorochi123: "In addition, you need to complete all Universal Tracking courses (there are seven of them) with a 3.0 Tracking GPA." does this mean we have to stay in pace longer than the regular time in order to complete them (or can we complete that when we transition intocampus?) pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): And finally, part of the BABA curriculum is choosing an Area of Specialization. There are over 70 options, and you can read about them all here: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/academics/baba-gba/ pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Mark, to answer your question about tracking, it typically takes a student 4 semesters to complete the tracking requirements (without bringing in any of the tracking credits from high school). However, you can use the summers to speed up the process. MarkM: So I could take a tracking class at the community college? revdocpam: yes, if a pace student is registered for a class that is also offered onsite, then can they get permission to audit that class on a space available basis to hear lectures and class discussions? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Yes, we can review which AP credits will count towards the 60 required hours. Admissions currently has that information and I am working with them to get myself access to that information. I typically do not get access to a student's academic record this early in the process, so I hope to have access in the next few weeks. Jupiter035: Are we allowed to audit the same class in Gainesville if we are taking the class online? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Auditing classes is actually not allowed unless you apply to audit the class, even for students in an on-campus program. The reason for that is seat space and fire safety. Jupiter035: What is the process to audit a class? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, you do have to complete all seven tracking courses with the 3.0 before transitioning to campus rorochi123: are the tracking courses within the curriculum for the BABA or are they extra? Jupiter035: Can u participate in UF abroad while in the Pace program? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Yes, you can take tracking courses at a community college. On the transient page I sent, there is a link to a list of preapproved tracking courses at other Florida State Colleges and Universities. Business Administration

pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): revdocpam, I am not sure at this point what the auditing policy is for PaCE students. But it is important for me to find out, and I will be sure to have that information by the next online chat session. kfilson: Here are the tracking courses: kfilson: CO 2013<td style="margin: 0px; padding: 4px 9px; border: 1px solid rgb(153, 153, 153); outline: kfilson: Oops the cut and paste did not work. Sorry, I tried to help. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Here is a link to information about auditing a course for on-campus students, but I still need to confirm what the policy will be for PaCE students while they are UF Online: http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/currents/audit.html rorochi123: is there a link that could show me the 7 tracking courses? kfilson: Leigh, is there any way you can gauge the level of difficulty of taking these courses online versus in class? How much more challenging will they be? The fear of failure is always first and foremost in high achieving young people and when you add the new element of online, it it exponentially higher. Any thoughts on this? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Yes, the tracking courses are part of the BABA curriculum. They are just called Tracking courses so we can track students' progress in them during their first semesters. It helps us predict success in the Core and Major courses. kfilson: rorchi, here it is.http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/myheavener/tracking.asp Jupiter035: Can you confirm if a student in the Pace Program is allowed to enroll in UF abroad program prior to attaining the 60 credits? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Jupiter035, yes, you can study abroad while you are a UF Online student. rorochi123: thank you so much!!! so to make it clear, will BABA students be taking the tracking courses as an EXTRA (so we would have to stay longer than other students who would have otherwise transitioned in with their 60 credits) or included WITHIN the curriculum? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Sure thing. here is the link for Tracking information: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/myheavener/tracking.asp pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): kfilson, many of the tracking courses are already designed to be online. For example, ECO2023, ECO2013, ACG2021, and ACG2071 are online even for the on-campus students. kfilson: That's helpful. Thanks. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Math courses may be slightly more difficult to take online, but you also have the option to take courses in person at a community college. Perhaps MAC2233 and STA2023 would be good options for taking elsewhere. kfilson: How may I see what Gen Ed requirements look like? Might you have already included that link? I'm not sure? Thanks. Jupiter035: Can Pace students that are in off campus housing get a meal plan at UF and use all UF facilities? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, some PaCE majors are going to have easier tracking requirements, so the same student may be able to transition sooner for another PaCE major than for BABA. It all depends on how many tracking courses you've already gotten credit for in high school. kfilson: Did I see that it would be not advisable to start in PaCE with one major and then change to BABA once on campus? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): I will say that the BABA tracking requirements are some of the tougher tracking requirements out there compared to other PaCE majors, so I do anticipate that BABA students may be a UF Online student a bit longer than non-baba PaCE student. rorochi123: thank you for that!!^^^ Business Administration

pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): For Gen-Ed requirements, they are actually changing slightly for the 2015-2016 academic year, so I would have to look up what they are and get back to you. Currently, the Gen Ed requirements for Business are three Humanities courses, one Composition course, one Biological Science, one Physical Science, one Biological or Physical Science, a International Course, and a Diversity course. Forgive me for not having the 2015-16 changes in front of me. The changes are minimal though. kfilson: So, sorry if you already answered this...in order to transition, do you have to have all Gen-Ed and all universal tracking courses done? MarkM: Do you think it would be too rigorous to take a tracking class during summer A and one during summer B? MarkM: Those would be the only classes I would be taking though pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): PaCE students living off campus cannot get a meal plan to my knowledge right now. They also do not have access to facilities that on-campus students are paying for in their fees. PaCE students are able to use important services like the libraries, in-person tutoring, and the Disability Resource Center, however. MarkM: I heard from UF online that we could use the rec center if we paid an extra fee. And I heard we could get a meal plan pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): I don't think it would be advisable to switch to BABA from another PaCE major once on campus because it may take you a while to get caught up with the BABA tracking courses if you weren't already doing them while a UF Online student. That being said, it is not impossible, and a student is allowed to change their major to another PaCE major once on campus. Jupiter035: Can a Pace student sign up and take classes in person at UF in Gainesville in the summer of 2015 as a non matriculating student then start taking the online courses beginning in the fall? rorochi123: Me too I believe they changed it!!!!@ba_leigh pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): kfilson, you do not have to complete all GenEd, just all tracking, in order to transition revdocpam: we have been told they can get meal plans as of this week pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): MarkM, I do not think it would be too rigourous to take one tracking course Summer A and one Summer B, generally speaking. I would want to advise you on an individual bases (e.g. do you love/hate math) and I would want to know where you'd be taking the courses because some UF courses are tougher during the summer then at a community college. revdocpam: someone name "UFonline" has posted many updates all week on College Confidential chats about meals and intramurals and rec center all being a 'go' for pace students this week rorochi123: Once you reach campus in, lets say, Advertising PaCE and you decide to double major in Marketing, is that possible> pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): MarkM, I apologize if I am wrong about the rec center and meal plan policies! It is very possible that they changed the policy and I was not updated. I will have to look into it and get back to you. Jupiter035: Can a student in the Pace Program take summer classes at UF in a traditional classroom setting prior to beginning online classes in the fall? Or is that not permitted? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): It is sounding like meal plans, intramurals, and rec center are a go for PaCE students. My apologies. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, only the PaCE majors will be available to students once transitioning, meaning you can switch to another PaCE major or do a double major in another PaCE major. However, a double major in Marketing is not possible because it is not a PaCE major. rorochi123: So we'll always be a Pace major no matter what? How can we take regular classes? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Jupiter035, let me get back to you on that. I have not been updated about the polices around taking courses this summer at UF. Business Administration

Jupiter035: I will send you an email pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, you will always be pursuing a major offered within the PaCE program, but you will transition to campus to complete the major in the traditional classroom setting. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): By being in the PaCE program, you are agreeing to be a UF Online student for however long it takes you to complete the transition requirements in your particular PaCE major. When you make the transition to campus, you are still in the PaCE program, but you are now on campus completing the requirements for your degree. Does this make sense? MarkM: The diplomas are the same though? rorochi123: so we'll never be able to take regular classes with regular people unless we graduate with that major and then come back? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Jupiter035, thank you for that. For anyone whose questions were not answered today because I need to follow up for clarification, please send me an email and I will get back to you. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): MarkM, the diplomas are the same. Even for students who are UF Online the entire time, the diplomas never say UF Online on them - they look exactly the same as an on-campus student's University of Florida diploma. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, you will start to take "regular classes with regular people" :) when you transition to campus. That is how you will complete your UF degree, by taking the courses on campus. Jupiter035: Leigh, what is your email address? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): leigh.smadbeck@warrington.ufl.edu Jupiter035: Thank you Jupiter035: Just to clarify, once a Pace student has all 7 tracking classes completed, has done their 15. Online credits over 2 semesters and has 60 total credits they will be transitioned to UF as a traditional student. However they must graduate in a Pace major. Correct? Non pace majors are never available to the Pace students unless they double major? Is this correct? jfburket: I see the PaCE program only offers a BA degree in Business. Is there a way to transition toward a BS once the 60 hrs are completed? revdocpam: Jupiter035 that is a BIG question for sure!! MarkM: Are there any significant differences in terms of job potential in BA as opposed to a BS Jupiter035: Yes, if we are restricted to only Pace majors forever if we enter this program that's a big deal. rorochi123: ^^^that's the real question right there kfilson: That is different than what was conveyed earlier. I recall reading that once on campus, you may transfer just as any student could rorochi123: exactly Jupiter035: We kinda need to know the deal on that? It will weigh greatly in my decision making process pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Just a moment. I am trying to clarify some answers I got earlier and wasn't clear on. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): I apologize for the delay! revdocpam: I felt transitioning majors beyond those 60 listed on Pace was feasible later, just not for the first 60 hours. I thought once they finished the 60 credits this program was PATHWAY to campus enrollment, not a prescripted limited program. I thought this was a sequeway into 'traditional' campus experience, but frontloaded with online classes. Not a rigid inflexible pre-decided NON-TRADITIONAL degree? So why call it Pathways? Business Administration

pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): jfburket, thanks for asking that question. The only way to transition to a BSBA degree once the 60 hours are completed is to apply to UF as a transfer student, and we don't advise student to rely on that option because of how few spots there usually are for transfer students to get into the BSBA program. jfburket: OK. Thanks. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): What I've been telling students is, if your priority is a Business degree from UF, PaCE is a good option, and the BABA is a good option. If your priority is to get a BSBA degree, and you have an offer from another institution that offers that degree, then PaCE may not be the best program for you because there is no guarantee that you can get into a BSBA program at UF. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): I will say that the BABA degree is a great degree and it doesn't get enough credit (in my opinion). Students doing this major are not taking any fewer business courses than a BSBA student because we require students to take at least 11 Business Elective credits to complete the degree. It also allows students to study an Area of Specialization outside of business, which the BSBA degree doesn't do. rorochi123: but specifically, like @Jupiter035 said, "hey must graduate in a Pace major. Correct? Non pace majors are never available to the Pace students unless they double major? Is this correct?" pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): To answer your question about job potential for the BABA vs. BSBA, there are a few jobs out there that may require a Finance or Accounting degree, but that is a very small piece of the pie. Job placement is really about networking, resumes, internships, work experience, etc. At the Heavener School of Business, we ensure that all students leave being prepared for the job of their choice, regardless of the major they have within the College of Business. rorochi123: also like what @kfilson said, it was conveyed earlier through different UF sources that you may transition just as any student could rwagoner97: Are you able to specialize in General Theatre being that it is also a PaCE major? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochi123, unless a student applies to transfer into a different program (a non- PaCE major), then the only options for students remaining in the PaCE program are PaCE majors, even if they are double majoring. Double majoring is a not a back-door way into getting a non-pace major. rorochi123: oh so would the transfer be recommended before doing the 60 credits for the program or during? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Maybe we should discuss the difference between the terms "transition" and "transfer." A PaCE students will automatically "transition" to campus and continue in the PaCE major they started with, or switch to a different PaCE major. If students are not happy with the PaCE major options, they will have to apply as a transfer student to the University of Florida for the specific program they want. The transfer admissions process is just like applying to college as a high school student, except that in many cases, like with the BSBA degree, it is even harder to get into the BSBA program as a transfer student because of how few spots are available. kfilson: Will you please elaborate on a recent post you made:and finally, part of the BABA curriculum is choosing an Area of Specialization. There are over 70 options, and you can read about them all here: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/academics/baba-gba/ kfilson: Is this like a 'minor'? MarkM: Would it be possible to take tracking classes during summer of 2016 at UF? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): The Areas of Specialization are listed on this website: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/academics/baba-gba/. I don't believe Theater is on there, although whenever a student has an interest in an area that is not already offered as an Area of Specialization, we work to make it happen. I actually believe Theater is on the list of Areas of Specialization that may be available in the near future. Business Administration

pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): rorochie123, in order to apply as a transfer student to the BSBA program, you need your AA degree, so it would make sense for you to apply after you complete the 60 credits required to transition to the on-campus PaCE major. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): The Areas of Specialization make up a series of courses that you take instead of taking upper-division major courses like Finance or Marketing. It is like a minor in that it is a series of courses to help focus your electives. In the case of the BABA degree, you will take the courses for your Area of Specialization AND take 11-12 credits of Business Electives, where you can possibly get into upper-division courses in areas like Marketing or Finance. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): MarkM, you can take tracking classes during the summer of 2016 through UF Online, but not in person. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): During the time I took to clarify some things, I was able to find out the following: pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): PaCE students CAN purchase a meal plan and CAN purchase a non-fee paying student membership to the Rec Center. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Those are the only on-campus services that are available to PaCE students while they are technically considered UF Online students. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): You can not take classes at UF (in person or online) during the summer of 2015, but you can take them at other institutions and transfer credits in. familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): We will be wrapping up the chat in the next 5 minutes. The transcripts for today's chat will be posted by the end of next week (http://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campusenrollment/). Please join us for our next PaCE chat on Wednesday, February 25, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. kfilson: What are restricted business electives? pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): And finally, sitting in on live lectures is not allowed while you are UF Online students. Even if you are here living in Gainesville, you are expected to watching the lectures online and take the exams online. That part of the agreement of being UF Online students first is due to space limitations in the classes. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): kfilson, Business Electives are courses that students in the BABA program are required to take to complete their degree. This link has a list of the Business Electives offered in the past: http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/docs/businesselectives.pdf. Keep in mind that courses are not offered every semester, and spaces in the courses fill up quickly, so students will want to work with their Academic Advisor (me) when selecting the Business Electives. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Business Electives are typically taken in the last couple years of the BABA degree, so I anticipate that PaCE students will begin taking those courses after they transition to campus. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): Thank you all for joining today! I hope your questions were answered. pacechatmoderator(ba_leigh): If not, please don't hesitate to email me at leigh.smadbeck@warrington.ufl.edu. The next chat will be Wednesday, 2/25 from 7:30pm-9pm. Business Administration

Talk with academic advisors, faculty and staff while learning more about UF's PaCE program. This chat is for newly admitted PaCE students and family members. Academic Advisors will be available to answer questions in college specific chat rooms. College of Journalism and Communications ehargadon: Hello there! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): Good afternoon! We have the BEST.COLLEGE.EVER. ehargadon: I was hoping to get some clarification about how those within the PaCE program would be admitted to the College of Journalism and Communications - are students required to get their AA degree in order to gain admission? Also, what are the critical tracking courses for PaCE journalism majors? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): You don't have to actually apply to the CJC -- just declare one of our majors right from the start! While in PaCE, you'll be taking our online tracking courses for our majors: AMH2020, POS2041, etc. as well courses for general education requirements (science, math, English composition, etc.) GMT/SMT: Judy I am interested in learning which of my son's existing credits can be applied to the 60 he needs for transition to campus enrollment in the Journalism major. He earned 7 credits last summer at UF while participating in the YELS program and has AP credits. In addition, he had applied for summer B but got admitted into PaCE which doesn't begin until Fall. He would like to take courses this summer at a state college to expedite transition to campus enrollment but wants to ensure the course track the journalism major and would count toward the 60 he needs. Can you provide some guidance on this? PaigeFry: How difficult would the online classes, general ED and journalism specifically, be? And is it possible that we could receive some kind of online tutoring for the classes? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: here's the link to the UF catalog that outlines UF credit awarded for AP --https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/advising/info/ap-examination-credit-info.aspx. Students can continue to take courses at the state/community college, but be aware that a maximum of 60 credits will be transferred to the UF degree program. rorochi123: Hello! Are we allowed to switch majors after being in the pace program for the two semesters and transitioning into campus? (for example if I decided to take Advertising and then if I wanted to switch once on campus?) is that allowed? GMT/SMT: What happens to AP credits that do not count toward the major? If they are considered elective credits how many elective credits can be applied toward the 60 needed for transition to the Journalism major? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: the feedback we are receiving from our students about our classes is very positive -- they are enjoying the classes and aren't finding too many challenges. UF is committed to creating interesting, engaging online courses, and so far our classes are meeting and exceeding this! UFOnline and PaCE students are eligible for the UFOnline tutoring service SmartThinking, and for those PaCE students in the Gainesville area, the Broward Teaching Center is also available for tutoring. GMT/SMT: How are non degree credits earned at UF counted toward the 60 needed for transition? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @rorochi123: You will have to work closely with an adviser in our college if you want to change from ADV to another CJC major. It's difficult to change majors with more than 60 credits, so again, stay in touch with us! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: the additional AP credits post as elective credits. This might make it easier to understand: all CJC students who transfer 60 credits must complete 64 additional UF credits in order to reach the 124 credits required for our degree program. Journalism and Communications

ehargadon: What kind of major specific extracurricular activities would be available to PaCE journalism majors? PaigeFry: Awesome, thank you! Also, my main major, which I know I'm doing, is Journalism, but I would also like to double major with Business Administration. Should I wait to transition onto the main campus to pick up my second major or is it possible to do both majors with PaCE? I don't know how difficult it would be, especially considering because both majors are in different colleges. I also just wanted to let you know that I toured your school and absolutely fell in love with it! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: regarding non-degree credits, the student will have to petition the college to count the non-degree credits earned at UF towards the degree. GMT/SMT: Let me ask it this way then. Of the 60 credits required for transition into the Journalism major how many of those are required courses? For example, are 30 credits required courses and 30 elective? What is the breakdown? I am trying to confirm that he only needs a total of 60. My concern is that there are 50 credits thatdistinct to the major and required for transition and 10 are elective. If that were the case, many of the credits he has already earned would be wasted. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @ehargadon: PaCEstudents can participate in intramurals and student organizations. Check our college webpage for a list of student organizations:http://my.jou.ufl.edu/students/category/student-organizations/ pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: UF students declare the dual major when they have earned between 45 and 96 UF credits. Having said that, you will work closely with our college and advisers in the business school to make sure you are taking the proper tracking courses for both majors. GMT/SMT: If you have to petition to have non degree credits count, what is the criteria by which the petition would be considered? These were UF residential courses - one on a 4000 level. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: I would have to see a complete list of the students AP scores to see what applies to the degree. You can email a copy of the college board scores advising@jou.ufl.edu pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: college petitions are considered on a case by case basis. Is the non-degree course a general education course or a 4000-level professional course offered by our college? rorochi123: hold on, so if I took AP Biology or AP Art or AP French and passed all of them, they wouldn't count for the 60 credits we need? They only count the required credits?? GMT/SMT: They were not journalism courses. one was ENT4935 Exploring Entrepreneurship and the other was SYG 2010 Social Problems and Solutions. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @rorochi123: your AP credits will count towards the 60 credits, but there might be some AP credits that don't meet specific degree requirements. For example, students in our college need to complete POS2041 American Federal Government. If you have AP credit for that course, that counts towards our degree requirements. GMT/SMT: Of the 60 credits required for transition to campus enrollment, how many are degree required credits and how many are elective? I cant seem to get an answer to this question. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: SYG2010 will likely be approved -- no guarantees because the college petitions committee will have to review -- however, SYG2000 is required for students in our Telecommunication degree programs, and we regularly accept SYG2010 in lieu of SYG2000. The course is not required for ADV, JM, or PUR degree programs, so it would, if approved, only count as elective credits. Same for ENT4935. rorochi123: Oh! Whew! alright thank you! does the school of journalism have any requiredtracking courses like the school of business? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @rorochi123: our required tracking courses are AMH2010, AMH2020, POS2041, and POS2112 (or CPO2001 or INR2001). Journalism and Communications

PaigeFry: How long would it approximately take a journalism major to complete around 45 credits online? Is it possible to complete this within 2 semesters? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: UF students can take a maximum of 18 credits per semester, and we do not recommend that many credits in the first semester at UF. So 3 semesters minimum! PaigeFry: Is it possible that I can take my general ed classes at a local community college during the summer of 2015? I want to get out of the PaCE program as quickly and efficiently as possible. GMT/SMT: Is it possible that AP credits that don't apply to the Journalism major and then default to "elective" status can still be applied to the general education requirements? I am trying to determine the possibility of earned college credit exceeding the amount of elective credit that can be applied toward the 60. Were that to occur a student might have to earn well in excess of 60 credits being allowed to transition. That is a pretty big deal if the case. Can you clarify? Karina40: Would it be possible to take classes at Sante Fe during the summer after our freshman year(summer 2016) to finish off our remaining credits? GMT/SMT: Will PaCE courses be available during summer 2016? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: credits from the local community college will be accepted, but remember you will need to be in PaCE for a minimum of 2 semesters. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): AP credits that don't apply to the degree requirements are counted as elective credits. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): Our summer course offerings are expanding every year, so we fully expect to have plenty of options for our students in the summer of 2016! GMT/SMT: Can you foresee a situation where a student had earned 60 credits but could not transition because the credits he or she earned were predominantly classified as electives? Karina40: Perfect, thank you! PaigeFry: Groovy. Another of my many questions, would if be rude if I felt like bombarding my online teachers at their offices on campus (I'm assuming some have offices on campus) to introduce myself and ask questions if I wanted/needed? Or is this strictly an online relationship? I want to make as many connections in the journalism field as possible, considering this field is shrinking, and I don't want to become homeless. Oh! While we're talking about that, what's your job placement rate for graduates of your college? (online and on campus) pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): A student who doesn't meet transition requirements might in fact not be able to transition to residential campus. PaigeFry: would it be rude* excuse my typo. Jeff2015: Once we have completed the 60 hours are we guaranteed admission to upper division or college. thenextstep: Do you have any more information about perusing a Telecommunications major through PaCE? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: While anyone can visit campus, the relationship with your professors is primarily an online relationship. We have instructors teaching in our online classes that are not in Gainesville, so keep that in mind, too! isorresso: What types of classes might I be taking if I were a Journalism student in the PaCE program? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @PaigeFry: our college gives tons of support to our students -- Career Day tailored specifically to students in our degree programs, resume writing workshops, and many immersion opportunities when you transition to campus. PaigeFry: Oh okay, that's interesting. Thank you! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @Jeff2015: it looks like you're getting your answers in the lobby... thenextstep: Is there any possibility that a PaCE student who is going to live off campus (Windsor hall) be able to participate in the news program at UF, possibly become a news anchor? Journalism and Communications

pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @thenextstep: You absolutely can pursue the Telecommunication degree through PaCE! You'll need to complete our tracking courses -- AMH2020, POS2041, POS2112 (or INR2001 or CPO2001), general education classes (GenEd math, GenEd science), etc. thenextstep: How smooth do you think the transition will be from PaCE to on campus classes, within the telecommunications major? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @isorresso: we require courses in American History, Political Science, English composition, etc. Many general education courses, of course, but courses in the major include Writing Fundamentals for Communicators, Reporting, Multimedia Reporting, Editing, Fact Finding, and so forth. Here's a link to the courses offered by the Journalism Dept.-- https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/courses/descriptions/journalism.aspx rorochi123: Which email could I use to contact you? I would like to discuss with you my particular information! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @rorochi123: advising@jou.ufl.edu Looking forward to talking with you! isorresso: Do you know if any IB credits would cover some of the required courses you mentioned? rorochi123: Thank you! GMT/SMT: I don't mean to be rude but have respectfully asked the same question five different ways and either completely misunderstand how this works or you just don't want to tell us. Iam trying to assess the risk that nondegree credits and AP credits that don't count toward the major (of which there are several) getclassified as electives and never apply toward the 60 needed for transition to campusenrollment. On the one hand some posts say you can apply up to 45 credits but if these are all counted as electives, as I understand it, you might still need to earn another 45 before you really transition. Can you just walk us through the process? PaigeFry: I agree with GMT. pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @thenextstep: After you transition to campus we'll make sure you are directed to the opportunities we have in our multimedia properties! We expect the transition to be just fine! You'll get lots of advising support, of course, and lots of support from the university community! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @isorresso: Many of our students come in with IB credits, but we'll have to take a look at your particular information to determine what will count towards the degree requirements and what will count as elective credits. isorresso: Do both degree credits AND elective credits count towards the 60 credits? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @GMT/SMT: please contact me at advising@jou.ufl.edu so we can set up a phone advising appointment! Don't worry -- I'll try to explain this so that it will finally make some sense! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @isorresso: here's the link to the way UF posts IB credits:https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/advising/info/ib-examination-credit-info.aspx thenextstep: @Judy since I'll living off campus (Windsor Hall) what is the fastest way to get involved with the media department, whether it be working in the studio or doing production work? pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @isorresso: keep in mind that the IB / AP charts are updated in every catalog year, so check the new 2015-16 catalog after May 1st and compare to your IB scores pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @thenextstep: when you transition to the residential program we'll make sure to point you in the right direction! pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): Thank you, everyone, for joining us today! A few final reminders: 1) we're here to help you 2) check the new 2015-16 UF Undergraduate Catalog for academic information and regulations that will be applicable to you as a new UF student! thenextstep: Will I be able to take the NPT while in PaCE? thenextstep: If I take the required classes throught PaCE I would assume I could take the NPT, right? Journalism and Communications

thenextstep: News Placement Test pacechatmoderator(journ&comm_judy): @thenextstep: The NPT is given 1/2 way through RTV2100, a course that you will likely take in your first semester as a residential student. thenextstep: Is RTV2100 offered to freshman residential students? What is the typical year most students take the NPT? familychatadministrator(nsfp_kris): We will be wrapping up the chat in the next 5 minutes. The transcripts for today's chat will be posted by the end of next week (http://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campusenrollment/). If so, do PaCE students able to be on that track? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): vheilman, if you add their chatroom, I think you will see them...in the upper right. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, yes, we do the pre-health advising for UF. smourad1: Would I receive advising on classes for pre-health before enrolling in my online classes for PaCE or would that be a meeting had on campus after the transition? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, first, you know that we do not recommend PaCE for pre-health students? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, Most professional schools such as medical schools and dental schools do not accept online courses for fulfilment of pre-requisite requirements. smourad1: Yes I understand that. I actually want to go to PA school and contacted the schools I would be interested in directly to ask if online pre reqs were an issue.. I didn't get any negative feedback. Some said that the sciences with labs were thier biggest concerns but as long as i continue with more difficult science courses after the transition that I should be fine. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1,good for you. What questions do you have for us? smourad1: I was relieved at how much positive feedback I got actually. Medical schools are probably stricter about that. smourad1: The health track would be available? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, yes, med schools are probably more strict. familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, if you are asking if you can declare 'pre-health' as a PaCE major, the answer, is no, that is not a major (even for residential students). smourad1: No i meant if i was able to receive pre-health advising familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, yes, you will absolutely be able to receive pre-health advising as a PaCE student! Do you know what major you are planning on? smourad1: Yes, Health Education and Behavior I believe. I plan on chatting with the College representative in the next chat session familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): Ok, great. Please let me know if i can help you with anything right now. smourad1: Is the pre-health advising received before choosing the online courses? familychatmoderator(clas_lynn): smourad1, yes, you are welcome to work with a pre-health advisor before you actually register. smourad1: Great, thank you for all your answers!
