Multimedia Technology and Design Courses at a Glance MTD101: Multimedia Design Concepts MTD101 Multimedia Design concept is a design module that seeks to equip students with competent skills in design drawing and sketching. Topics covered in this course are: 1. Introduction to visual design concept 2. Introduction to Idea sketching 3. One-point Perspective sketching 4. The concept of Multimedia and designing 5. Two-Point Perspective Sketching 6. Rendering and featuring MTD103: Multimedia Tools The course seeks to further develop the observational and analytical skills involved in design drawing and sketching. Students would be taught the following topics: 1. Introduction Multimedia Design Tools 2. Drawing the Human Head 3. Drawing the Human Figure 4. Compositions and points of view 5. Storyboard MTD105: Digital Photography Technology Digital photography enables still images to be stored without deterioration, compressed to save storage space, electronically transferred to another viewer at long distance and manipulated to enhance image quality. This course covers the theoretical aspects of digital photography so that students understand the scientific aspects of digital photography. MTD107: Digital Photography Techniques This hands-on-course is a follow-up from Digital Photography Technology. Here students are taught the various techniques and methodology of photo-taking using a digital camera. Photo taking and image presentation is portrayed as both an art and a skill.

MTD201: Fundamentals of Graphic Design This course introduces students both the theoretical and practical aspects of 3D modeling. The course is lab-based and students will have ample opportunity to learn graphics design through hands-on practice. At the end of the course, students will possess the fundamental skills in using 3ds max to design graphics. MTD203: Advanced Graphics Design This advanced course introduces the students to the mathematical, physical and mechanical aspects of graphics design for multimedia applications. MTD205 Audio Technology This course provides the theoretical foundation on the operation of audio systems as components used in multimedia production, distribution and reproduction. The course briefly covers the basics of the C++ language and focuses on the application of C++ for animation and games design. Students will learn to create objects and animate them using C++ codes in order to modify existing animation and games software.

MTD301: Audio and Video Production Techniques This course provides a broad coverage of audio and video productions techniques used in the Singapore video industry, inclusive of strengths, weakness and applications, roles of key personnel in the industry and hands-on practice on producing audio and video feature content. Topics covered in this course include: 1. Introduction and Overall Perspective on Jobs in Video Production 2. Stage 1: The idea (Project Development) 3. Stage 2: The plan (Pre-Production); Working with the Software, Camera detail Production Design 4. Stage 3: The Shoot (Production); Camera/ Field Work / Lighting techniques 5. Selling and Pitching MTD303: Data Communication This course covers the transmission of digital messages to devices external to the message source, i.e. those that have independently powered circuitry that exists beyond the chassis of a computer or other digital message sources. The Medium Access Control Sub-layer MTD304: Data Streaming This course covers data streaming where the transfer of data is done at a steady high-speed rate, a rate sufficient to support such applications as high-definition television (HDTV) or the continuous backup copying to a storage medium of the data flow within a computer. Topics include bandwidth sufficiency, real-time human perception of the data, and time lag.

MTD305: Multimedia Systems This course builds on level 2 (Audio technology; Video technology) and level 3 courses (IT project management). It studies the integration of multimedia systems. Advanced Control MTD306: Advanced Multimedia Systems This course is a follow-up on Multimedia Systems Design whereby the students will perform large scale integrated multimedia systems. Design Imperatives MTD307: Computer Music Composition Techniques This course introduces software that help in the process of music composition by creating arrangements, melodies, structures etc. with little human help. MTD315: Computer Interactive Graphics This course provides a basic background on geometry and computer graphics for virtual reality systems. Topics covered in this course include: 1. Introduction to Graphics Systems and Models 2. Basic OpenGL 3. Three Dimensional Graphics 4. Implementation 5. Discrete Methods 6. Modeling MTD317 Virtual Reality Systems This introductory course covers the principles of virtual reality and its application in multimedia. Topics covered in this course include: 1. Introduction to Virtual Reality Systems 2. VR Input and Output Devices 3. Modeling 4. VR programming 5. Human factors in VR 6. VR Applications MTD358: Application Development for Mobile Computing Device (iphone) This course introduces the iphone application from a technical perspective, starting by providing an overview of the different methods of developing native and web applications. Then it looks at the native iphone SDK components and explains how to use objective-c language to develop typical utility applications. Upon having cemented a good grounding, a dedicated chapter will focus on the basics in 2D gaming; covering different elements like game audio, animation and gaming engine. Finally, the last chapter will conclude by introducing the theory of 3D gaming development The main focus of this introductory iphone application development course lies in building a basic foundation for the participants to generate basic utility and games for the IPhone/Ipad; thus equipping them with a holistic understanding of the underlying development frameworks and tools that will help leverage their technical know-how to develop more sophisticated applications as well as to ensure a smooth transition to more advanced development courses in one of the topics.

MTD359: Visual Effects Design This course is designed to introduce students to the various techniques used to create visual effects for film and television. The focus of the course is to explore the software tools used to create visual effects and issues involved in combining these effects with live action footage. Software taught in this course includes Eyeon s Digital Fusion and Alias Maya. Students are introduced to green screen filming and lighting techniques. ICT219: Information Systems Role in Organization & Infrastructure The course gives an understanding of information systems in the context of its management, organization, and technology dimensions. Topics include essentials of information systems for businesses, ethical and social issues, and the hardware, software, database and networking technologies along with tools and techniques for security and control. ICT220: Information Systems Key Applications & Building Information Systems This course covers key applications like enterprise systems, supply chain management, customer relationship management, knowledge management, e- commerce applications and decision support systems. Topics include enterprise applications improving business performance, use of ecommerce, improving decision making, building information systems as well as exploring alternative approaches to building systems, and the project management aspects when building and managing global systems. ICT271: Introductory Programming Techniques in C ++ This course introduces the design and development of computer programs to solve problems. Topics include the fundamental programming constructs as well as using the taught software development procedure to implement applications using C++ language.

Multi-project management relates to project managers work in balancing projects in process while handling requests for new work, juggling priorities, etc. Portfolio management is the governance process that decides what project to initiate, what priorities, etc. MTH101: Discrete Mathematics MTH101 is a foundation mathematics course that covers mathematical skills required for higher level mathematics courses and related subjects. MTH101 introduces indices, systems of two simultaneous equations, the quadratic formula, the method of completing the square, arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, general linear sequences, geometry involving straight lines and circles, trigonometry, linear and quadratic functions, the exponential and logarithm functions, limits of sequences, recurring decimals, matrices, Cramer s rule, vectors in two dimensions, bearings, the Sine Rule and the Cosine Rule.

MTH102: Transformation and Matrices MTH102 discusses transformations in two dimensions, eigenvalues, fixed points, conics, the Binomial Theorem and second-order difference equations, and uses these techniques to solve a variety of applied problems.
