Starting Questions How many of you have more information today and spend more time gathering and preparing the information than actually analyzing it? Do the information systems you currently have allow you to make quick decisions? The responsible on generating the information or reports to the managers are generally overwhelmed with petitions of information urgent and not organized? Do you have the behavior patterns of your clients depending on the industry?

History Hstory In 1989, Howard Dresner propose Business Intelligence as the term that describes the concepts, methods and ideas used: to make better business decisions maximize efficiency increase quality increase speed reduce costs

What is Business Intelligence? Business Intelligence (BI) A general term that covers all the processes, tools and technologies used to convert data into information, and information into knowledge This means, BI is an interactive process to explores and analyzes structured information (usually stored in a datawarehouse).

What is Business Intelligence? Interactive process Analysis of information in connection with business units or business partners and continued throughout time, should not be limited to a punctual moment in time.

What is Business Intelligence? Explore Early phase of BI, where data is explored to understand the current state of the business. This exploration may lead to discovering correlations between business processes and that were not considered before.

What is Business Intelligence? Analysis Area BI analysis projects focus on an object. The object can be clients, products and results of a location. The objective is to analyze the data in details with a concrete goal in mind.

What is Business Intelligence? Communicate results and make changes A fundamental principal of BI is that, once discover something, it has to be communicated to the persons who can realize the permanent changes in order to maximize competiveness.

Analytics Component Descriptive Analytics Describe what has happen and current business status. For example: segmentation can be used to create customer profiles, based on their buying patterns and use of services and products.

Analytics Component Predictive Modeling Intends to use different behavior patterns to predict purchasing outcomes base on history. Predicting the probability of a particular customer buying a product or service based on the study of similar characteristics of other clients that have previously purchased that same product.
