PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH (Motivation, originality) : 研 究 目 的 : The goal of this project is to build an autonomous system on chip that can scavenge energy from its environment. The purpose of this microsystem is to be placed in specific environment and to perform some measurement on long period of time without the need of wiring or batteries. The architecture of the microsystem is shown below, it is centered around a low power ASIC that will manage datas coming from sensors, communications through RF or optical telecommunication devices. The energy coming from the environment and converted by the micro power generator (µpg) is managed by the power controler and eventually stored in capacitors or micro batteries. The projects concerns the development of the µpg and the global electronic architecture that will be based around asynchronous microprocessor developped at TIMA. SCIENTIFIC DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT : プロジェクトの 概 要 : µpg : The project concerns the fabrication of a micropower generator dedicated to the conversion of vibration into electrical power. This device, made with microfabrication techniques, will supply a low voltage IC through some secondary energy storage like capacitor or microbatteries. The generator will be based on an electromagnetic scheme with permanent magnets and inductors as shown in the figure below. Some altenative solution based on the use of piezoelectric materials will also be targeted. Page 3 / 6

PRESENTATION OF THE LABORATORY : 研 究 所 の 紹 介 : TIMA (Techniques of Informatics and Microelectronics for Computer Architecture) Laboratory is approximately 120 people large. Research activities are related to design, synthesis and test of complex systems. The parent Institutions of the Laboratory are CNRS, the National French Research Council, and 2 Universities, namely INPG and UJF TIMA is organised with 6 research groups and a service unit. Research groups are : SLS (System Level Synthesis) : High level design of Systems On Chip VDS (Verification of Digital Systems) : Formal verification RMS (Reliable Mixed signal Systems) : Analog design for test MNS (Micro and Nano Systems) : MEMS and Nano computing CIS (Concurrent integrated Systems) : Asynchronous design of ICs QLF (Qualification) : Radiation testing of ICs TIMA is also hosting the French national chip fabrication service CMP for education and research centres. More than 2000 circuits have been processed so far by CMP in different IC technologies. LOCALIZATION OF THE LABORATORY : 研 究 所 の 所 在 地 : Grenoble, 46 avenue Félix VIALLET, 3803.
