Glass is a way of living Studio Glashyttan in Åhus AB is a small family owned company situated in the southeast of Sweden just by the coast. We only work with hand-made crystal with a superior quality, designed and created by ourselves in our own hot shop. The most pieces from Studio Glashyttan are made of thick crystal with slender streams or bubbles of coloured glass. The superior quality of the crystal and Studio Glashyttan s own unique designs combine to give the pieces a special lustre in harmony with a fascinating form. Founders Hanne Dreutler (1942-2009) Arthur Zirnsack (b 1944) Hanne was educated in graphic, design and craft and has practiced at Flygsfors, Målerås and Kosta glass factories. Hanne and her husband, Arthur Zirnsack, master blower at German, Swiss and many Swedish glass factories (the latest was Kosta-Boda) founded Studio Åhus 1977. Hannes extrordinary designs and Arthurs master skills still sets the quality standards at Studio Glashyttan. The New Generation Lennart Nissmark (b 1964) Lennart started out as an apprentice to master blower Arthur Zirnsack and his wife, the artist Hanne Dreutler in 1982. Hannes and Arthurs love for glass was transmitted to me. Soon I started developing my own ideas of both objects and sculptures. My journey has just begun and I am comitted to the fascinating craft of glass. Martin Zirnsack (b 1966) Martin started to work at his father's studio in 1982 after spending one year at the Glass-school in Orrefors. To work with this enchanting material of glass has always been a very natural step for me since I grow up with it. I work with a great span of things within this area: glass blowing, design, product development grinding and sand blasting. 4

Graal The Graal Technique The late Simon Gate and Edward Hald, famous glass artists, developed the Graal technique at the Orrefors glassworks in 1917. The technique is complicated and requires an experienced master. Hanne Dreutler created flagship-pieces with the Graal technique for Studioglashyttan as well as Lennart Nissmark and Martin Zirnsack. They use the technique for thick and heavy pieces in a creative way with their own special touch. Graal - step by step The first step in the Graal technique is to blow a clear crystal bubble, and at the same time a coloured one with one or several colours. The coloured bubble is turned inside-out over the clear bubble (so called overlay). By different techniques of cutting, engraving, sandblasting or etching, the cold piece is designed in relief through the layers of different colours. The process continues by re-heating and then attaching the blowpipe, casing it several times with new crystal, then blowing the right shape. The signing of the Graal Studioglashyttan in Åhus AB signs its Graal pieces as follows: Studio Åhus Sweden, year, Graal, name and No, artist s names (Hanne Dreutler-Arthur Zirnsack or Lennart Nissmark- Martin Zirnsack). 76

Our glassblowers and craftsmen always do their very best to keep the quality in the material and in craft as high as possible. Due to factors beyond our control, small imperfections may occur and do not affect the piece of art. Enjoy its beauty. Conditions Prices: According to separate price list.
