MELBOURNE FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has been an annual festival since 1993, when Peter Clemenger first ran the festival with only 12 events. Now, the festival is comprised of over 200 events that run throughout the year for food and wine lovers. Their website acts as a guide to festival goers. Website Business goals: The Business goal of this website is to inform users on events taking place at the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The site must provide adequate information and must entice the user to attend the events being featured. Website User Goals: The goal of users who come to his site is to find out in-depth information for events in the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. This includes pricing, date & time, location and a booking system. 3

USER INTERFACE DESIGN 10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design for http://www.melbournefoodandwine.com.au/ Visibility of System Status There is no clear indication that we are currently on the Home page. The only link to the home page is via the logo, which from past experience was confusing to testers. Match between system and the real world: The language used on the site is understandable by novice users. User Control & Freedom: When faced with a 404 Error, the page provides direct links to popular pages from the site. This is good for novice users as it helps them get out of this error. Consistency & Standards: There are two navigation sections in the header of this page, and the lower navigation s titles are not very clear ( What s on, The Latest & Eat, Drink & Stay ). These refer to the Events, The Latest News and Locations that are popular to stay. These could be labeled better for better understanding. Error Prevention: I could not find an example of Error Prevention. 4 Recognition rather than recall: It is easy to understand what information is needed for filtering the Event Listing page. (i.e. inputting when, where and price). These are familiar concepts to even novice users. Flexibility and Efficiency of use: You can choose to filter options, or type in your own search in the search bar for your own events you may know of. Aesthetic and minimalist design: The information on the page is all relevant. The inclusion of all the header information repeated in the footer helps usability as it is a pretty long page and users don t have to scroll all the way back up. Help users recognise, diagnose and recover from errors: When a page cannot be found, it does say Error 404 which intermediate Internet users would probably understand but not some. However, it does go on to say Page not found and directs the user to other pages. Help and documentation: There is not really a help page on the site. There is, however, a feed back pop-up that is fixed to the side of the page.

EVALUATION Website Business goals: The Business goal of this website is to inform users on events taking place at the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The site must provide adequate information and must entice the user to attend the events being featured. Website User Goals: The goal of users who come to his site is to find out in-depth information for events in the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. This includes pricing, date & time, location and a booking system. I believe my site properly meets the business and user goals of the website. The date of the festival, as well as information on location and pricing is all located towards the top of the page, as I rated it with high importance. I followed my Information Design Evaluation closely when creating my wireframes, being sure to put elements I rated the most important higher up on the page or made sure that they stood out. 22

COMPARISON While working on my designs, the festival site actually changed its design, removing the carousel and some other elements of each page. The changes they made were all things I had thought to change, such as the Carousel as it was rather messy and its information was not eye-catching. I feel like the colour scheme on my site is more sophisticated and matches the logo more in comparison to the blue of the original. HOME ABOUT PARTNERS INDUSTRY MEDIA CENTRE WORK SOCIAL HUB I changed the names of the 3 links under the logo so that they were easier to understand. I am still unsure of their positioning on my site, which I will hopefully sort out in my final site design. From 4 to 13 March 2016, we're planning a feast of epic proportions as laneways, rooftops, farms and wineries across the state knock your socks off at over 200 one-off events!
