CARL D. SCHRENK SOUTH COAST GEOTECHNICAL SERVICES EDUCATION AND LICENSES State of California Certified Engineering Geologist, No. 900 State of California Registered Geologist, No. 3101 State of Arizona Registered Geologist, No. 7156 State of Utah Professional Geologist, No. 7153623-2250 BS, Geology, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah As Branch Manager and senior engineering geologist of (ESSW), Mr. Schrenk oversaw the operations of the San Juan Capistrano office. He is experienced in performing and coordinating geologic/geotechnical exploration field studies, evaluating and preparing samples for laboratory testing, analyses and report preparation, review and performing services during construction. He has over 38 years of professional experience in all phases of geotechnical engineering from project inception to construction. Mr. Schrenk was also responsible for new client development for the office SELECT PROJECT EXPERIENCE Marriott Hotel and Time Share, Park City, Utah Slope stability issues resulted in using rock bolts to anchor the highly fractured and clay filled adversely dipping limestone to competent rock. This entailed evaluating the rock bolt spacing, length and angle of drilling. Mr. Schrenk provided quality control services during rock bolt installation and evaluation of the extent of installation. Leisure World, Vista/Oceanside, California Geologic and geotechnical field studies involving rock rippability studies to evaluate the rock hardness, provided geologic qualitative analysis on slope stability, alluvium removals, sub-drain design information, grading plan review, and review project quality control during grading. City of Lake Elsinore, California Principal geologist in the preparation of a comprehensive geologic hazard study text and map for the City of Lake Elsinore. Included in the study was the identification of potential areas of liquefaction, rock fall hazards, debris flow, fault hazard issues and areas of high groundwater. 6 Page

Mesa Vista HOA retained Dr. Khatri and Khatri International Inc. to provide structural and civil engineering expertise for reconstruction of 289 units in 88 buildings. The HOA had several intricate structural retrofit issues comprising of seismic deficiencies, construction defects, structural design problems, missing fire walls, and civil engineering issues. The civil engineering issues involved drainage, landslide, deep seated failures, water migration, settlement, and subsidence. This project entailed 5 years of professional services and a total construction cost of $10 million. Dr. Khatri recommended several solutions that reduced the final scope of repair to a manageable budget and reduced the total reconstruction effort to the primary key items for making the buildings sustainable. 7 Page

FIRE LOSS EVALUATIONS AND RECONSTRUCTION PLANS Post Fire Loss Investigation Roof Truss Evaluation Non Destructive and Destructive Testing Mitigation Plans Khatri International has done hundreds of fire loss investigations for all major insurance carriers and written numerous loss reports documenting the cause and scope of loss. Dr. Khatri is a registered professional engineer in 50 states and has worked reconstruction plans across the US and Canada. Fire loss investigation and reconstruction involves technical engineering, codes, design, and permitting. Dr. Khatri has specialized experience in this field over the past 22 years. 8 Page

Representative Fire Loss Investigations $0.99 Stores: Berco Building: A 50,000 sq. ft. retail store that was 90% damaged due to fire. Dr. Khatri investigated the fire loss, wrote the fire damage report, scope of loss, and provided the reconstruction plan. We were subsequently retained to provide reconstruction Engineer services to rebuild the facility. Total construction cost of $3,000,000. A 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing building that was 60% fire damaged. Dr. Khatri investigated and wrote the fire damage report, scope of loss, assessed the structural damage, and provided reconstruction services that included architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and permitting approvals through the local agencies. Residential Properties: Dr. Khatri has participated on over 1000 residential fire damage investigations and property loss reports over the past 23 years. He has written the fire damage report, scope of loss, and provided reconstruction services for design engineering inclusive of architectural restoration, structural design, HVAC, electrical, and permitting through the local agencies. 9 Page

LOSS INVESTIGATION STUDIES Earthquakes, Landslides, Subsidence, Mold, Construction Defect Expert Witness Services Testimony Khatri International Inc. has worked in the insurance industry for 25 years and has performed over 2000 loss investigation studies dealing with all aspects of insurance claims. From the very small claim of a tree root to a multi million dollar subsidence claim, Dr. Khatri has done the full range of work experience in this area. Experience includes personal/residential and commercial line carriers. MOLD 10 Page

WATER DAMAGE Water Damage Cases Residential Foundation Slab Moisture Problems: Dr. Khatri has investigated this very common recurring problem in residential slab on grade construction. The foundation experiences cracking due to shrinkage and moisture migration. The end result is water permeating through the slab and causing discoloration and insect migration into the house. This occurs for a variety of reasons, but most notably due to lack of water membrane to protect the underside of the slab. 11 Page

Roof Leakage: Dr. Khatri has investigated hundreds of roof leakage cases and conducted non destructive tests to determine the cause of leakage. The end result is to fix the problem and provide proven construction repair methods for reconstructing the roof membrane to prevent further leaks. This is a serious issue with respect to wood frame construction because water leakage usually leads to other problems with the home such as termites, mold, and long term deterioration. Foundation Efflorescence: Dr. Khatri has worked on foundation investigation cases for 27 years and has encountered a full range of casework that includes soil subsidence, foundation cracking, soil heaving, sliding, and long term settlement. A very common problem prevalent in many raised floor houses is foundation efflorescence which is the long term calcium deposit (white powder) that is seen on foundation stem walls. This deposit is a signature sign of water penetration and deterioration of the concrete. It does not mean the foundation requires replacement, but certainly a drainage solution is necessary at a minimum. In certain cases of older structures (greater than 50 years) it could signify the end of the working life of the foundation. 12 Page

WIND DAMAGE Representative Case Investigations Tehachapi Wind Tower Collapse: Dr. Khatri investigated a 50m tower collapse after a sudden wind event and provided technical explanation for the collapse, scope of repair, and replacement design with cost estimates. 13 Page

Residential Roof Tile Damage: Dr. Khatri has investigated hundreds of roof damage cases dealing with all types consequential damage to roof tile, underlayment, leakage, and roof structure issues. These reports provide the scope of loss, causation, and scope of repair with cost estimates (as requested). Condominium Roof Damage: Dr. Khatri was retained to investigate a 190 unit condominium complex that had replaced its roof 4 times in the past 5 years and was still experiencing leakage problems. Upon detailed investigation, the cause of the recurring loss was not due to wind or water, but rather the lack of a functional drainage system. The roof was essentially working as a lake and water collection and drainage was nonexistent. A scope of repair of the defective design was provided for the HOA and insurance carrier. LANDSLIDE INVESTIGATION 15 Page

EXPERT WITNESS SERVICES RECONSTRUCTION PLANS LOSS INVESTIGATION Law Firms: Dr. Khatri provides expert witness services to evaluate construction defect claims, cost estimates, and provide litigation support consulting. Dr. Khatri has testified at numerous depositions, court trials, arbitrations, mediations, and provided testimony relating to multi-million dollar cases. Insurance Carriers: Dr. Khatri has worked with major carriers on residential and commercial line claims on matters dealing with cause of loss, scope of repair, cost of repair, code coverage, reconstruction plan, and design issues. Owners: Dr. Khatri has worked with property owners to execute their reconstruction process and signed as Engineer of Record on numerous reconstruction projects. 16 Page
