STEP BY STEP DOWNLOAD AND DEPLOY 1. Prepare your host system. Minimum 8GB of real memory; more is better. Turn on Virtual Assist features in the BIOS (usually done by default). Refer to Troubleshooting tips in Step 12 for more details. ~96GB disk space needed to download and install. (This includes the 29GB unzipped.vmdk file and ~67GB for the imported image. Once the image is imported, the 29GB.vmdk file can be removed and the imported image is all that is required. - Download and install Free Download Manager or an ftp client of your choice. - Download and install 7Zip. - Download and install md5sum (optional) 2. Download and install Oracle Virtual Box (4.2.6 and above is supported) 3. Sign in to the SampleApp OTN Home page at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/obiee-samples-167534.html 4. Navigate to SampleApp v406 Section - Download the SampleAppv406 documentation - Download files SampleAppv406.zip.001-006 and follow the steps in the quick deployment guide. - Note: Once your SampleAppv406 image is running you can review the available options for this release File Description SampleApp v406 Documentation Quick deployment guide, user guide and what s new in SA 406 SampleAppv406.zip.001 SampleAppv406.zip.002 SampleAppv406.zip.003 SampleAppv406.zip.004 SampleAppv406.zip.005 SampleAppv406.zip.006 Checksums (MD5) Download all zip files into a single directory (approx 29GB). Optionally verify integrity of zip files using checksums. Open a zip file manager such as 7zip and select the first zip file (001) and extract. This will extract a compressed VMDK file, and.ovf file into Sampleappv406appliance folder. Open VBox Manager, select Import, navigate to the directory, select the.ovf file and click import. After import the initial image size is about 67 GB. 6. When all zip files are downloaded, unpack them with 7zip. Oracle BIEE Sample Application v406 Quick Deployment In a command window or 7z file Manager, run the following command(or 7z file manager). It will create a directory called SampleAppv406Appliance 7z x SampleApp406.zip.001 (Typical extraction time will take 20 to 40 minutes depending on your host machine) Result: SampleAppv406ga.ovf SampleAppv406ga-disk1.vmdk (29GB) 7. Start Oracle Virtual Box Manager Click File / Import Appliance ( Ctrl-I ) (you will need ~67GB of free space to import the appliance) Click Open appliance... Navigate to and Select SampleAppv406ga.ovf machine definition file Check [x] Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards Sample Screenshot Page 3 of 10
Wait for it to complete (typical import takes between 30 and 60 minutes). Your SAv406 vm is now ready. Important: By default your virtual appliance will import to your local C:\users directory on a windows machine. If you do not have adequate space at this location or would like to deploy to a different location you can edit the path of the Virtual Disk Image as shown in the screenshot below- Note: Do not change the value of the vmdk file when modifying your path. 8. Virtual Machine Settings By default your virtual machine is configured with the following parameters which is ideal for an 8GB host sys tem 6.5GB ram 2 processors Bridged Network adapter Users with more physical host memory can allocate more memory to the virtual machine o You can edit any of the VM configurations by clicking on edit/settings 9. Start your VM Your VM will auto logon as oracle/admin123. Upon logon your IP address will be displayed with further instructions on getting up and running. Note: If your VM does not have an active network connection no IP address will be displayed. IMPORTANT: if you are using bridge networking and your VM does not have a IP address at boot up you must either assign it one manually or power off and switch to NAT networking in order for services to start properly Page 4 of 10
Note: Bridge networking is ideal when your virtual machine has the ability to obtain its own IP address. (Examples include at home, host machine on wifi, in in office, host machine hardwired connection). Open a browser on your local host machine to access OBI using the IP address provided at the time of image start up. NAT networking is ideal when your virtual machine cannot obtain an IP address of its own. In this case, your virtual machine will always have an IP address of 10.2.0.15. Depending on your networking configuration your VM may still have access to the web but users will have to configure port forwarding to access OBI from a remote browser. For additional networking configuration and scenarios please download the SampleApp network Guide available for download from the SampleApp Launch Pad /Image configuration section Confirm your VBox tools are up to date prior to continuing as a reboot will be necessary once completed. Proceed to step 11 to upgrade your VBox tools. A good indication that your vbox tools require updating is the inability to change your VM screen resolution. Starting Services From the desktop of your virtual machine, click on the Sample App Launch Pad. The launch pad will guide users through: (note) a online version of the Launch Pad is available from the BIEE General Index Page image configuration Starting and stopping services Firefox shortcuts product log file location all system username/ passwords SampleApp Software Inventory guide Page 5 of 10
From the launch Pad click on the link starting services Here you can review recommended startup procedures, expected RAM consumption as well on board client tool locations. Note: Individual start scripts have been provided for all products. Use the SampleApp Start services menu for your specific services, note services are to be started in the order shown in the menu. Virtual Box tools will now automatically install/ reboot when completed CUSTOMIZATIONS, TROUBLESHOOTING AND SAMPLEAPP OPTIONS 12. Troubleshooting tips a) After importing the appliance, when you start the image, you may hit the following error. This may be because hardware virtualization is not enabled on your machine. In order to determine if it is enabled, go to http://www.microsoft.com/enus/download/details.aspx?id=592 download the hardware detection tool and execute it on your machine. If virtualization is not enabled, then enable it by following the steps outlined in http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx Once hardware virtualization is enabled and the machine is rebooted, you should be able to start the image. b) While the image is starting up, after the following initial few messages, you see a blank screen. If this happens, then stop the image. Go back to Virtual Box Manager and click on the image s settings. Go to display and increase the Video memory from 1MB to 6MB. Start the image and you should no longer see the blank screen. b) Error - Kernel Panic not syncing: Fatal exception (zoom in to see error message) Page 8 of 10
To fix this go Settings of the VM in Virtual Box, then in System configuration change Chipset to ICH9 from PIIX3. Also, make sure that you have Enable I/O APIC checked in Extended Features. Settings shown below for reference. 13. Update your screen resolution Navigate to system/preferences/display Select your desired resolution and click apply Page 9 of 10
14. Installing Client Tools Use the SampleApp Launch Pad (starting services) section for information regarding installing OBIEE client tools. For additional client tool install details including configuring your BIEE admin tool see the SampleApp Client Install guide which is accessible from the SampleApp Launch Pad/starting services section 15. YUM Updates To enable your SampleAppv406 image to receive/retrieve yum updates perform the following steps: a) Open a cmd window and su to the root user b) As the root user at the next cmd prompt enter gedit c) Open /etc/yum.conf d) Uncomment the last line in the first block of text that references the proxy e) Save file.
