OUR Life sciences Practice Pestalozzi s Life Sciences practice group consists of members of our Corporate / M&A, IP & TMT, and Litigation & Arbitration practices. Life Sciences is understood broadly, and includes pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotech products, as well as other regulated products, such as cosmetics, food (including beverages and tobacco), consumer goods and chemicals. Our clients include companies, organizations, institutions, founders and scientists active in various stages of research, development, technology transfer, and the commercialization of technology and technology-based products. The Life Sciences practice group offers a wide range of legal services, among others: Regulatory legal advice in connection with establishment licenses and other industry-specific permits, marketing authorizations, conformity assessments, and the respective procedures with regulatory agencies in Switzerland (such as Swissmedic), as well as regarding the development, manufacture, import, advertising and distribution of life sciences products. Intellectual property advice on the protection of knowhow, techniques, inventions and brands, and appropriate licensing structures for all R&D, manufacturing and distribution activities. Antitrust and competition law advice with a focus on industry-specific issues, such as parallel imports, settlement agreements, and the allocation of markets and research fields. Product security and product liability advice, also in respect of product recall cases and FSCA procedures. Litigation and arbitration legal support for legal disputes relating to the development, manufacture and distribution of life sciences products, including product liability cases. CHRISTIAN ROOS FRANZ SCHUBIGER Christian Roos is a partner and member of Pestalozzi s Corporate/ M&A and Employment groups in Zurich. His fields of expertise include international trade law, contracts and life sciences, with a focus on pharmaceuticals and medical devices. His professional languages are German, English, French, Italian and Swedish. Christian Roos was born in 1963. He graduated from the University of Fribourg in 1990 (lic.iur.) and then worked as an assistant dealing with EC law in international public law. After spending two years with the law firm van Bael & Bellis in Brussels, he joined the Swiss Federal Office for International Economic Foreign Affairs and was involved in the bilateral negotiations between the EC and Switzerland. His practice focuses on corporate law, M&A, reorganizations, corporate finance, private equity and venture capital, as well as general contract and commercial law. Franz Schubiger also has experience in the fields of life sciences, consumer goods, e-commerce and online business. Franz Schubiger was born in 1972. He graduated from the University of Zurich in 1999 (lic.iur.) and Cornell University in 2004 (LL.M., Fulbright Scholar). He was admitted to the bar in 2001. Before joining Pestalozzi in 2001, he served as a law clerk at the District Courts of Gaster/See and worked as an associate for a law firm. CHRISTOPH G. LANG CHRISTOPH R. RAMSTEIN Christoph G. Lang is a partner and member of Pestalozzi s Corporate/ M&A group. His preferred practice areas are corporate law with a particular focus on corporate governance, M&A, Swiss and European antitrust law and insurance law. He represents major Swiss and multinational corporations in domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and joint ventures, and frequently advises clients on policy and governance issues. Christoph G. Lang was born in 1970. He studied law at the University of Berne (Dr.iur., summa cum laude, 1999) and Columbia University School of Law (LL.M., Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, 2000). He was admitted to the bar in 1997. Before joining Pestalozzi in 2000, he was a teaching and research assistant for two years in the University of Berne s Corporate and Commercial Law Department. Christoph G. Lang regularly publishes in his fields of expertise. He is a member of the Zurich, Swiss and International Bar Associations, as well as the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht and Winner of the ILO Client Choice Award 2013 for M&A in Switzerland.. Ramstein is a partner and member of Pestalozzi s Corporate/M&A, Tax and Private Clients groups in Zurich. His areas of practice are corporate law, business organization, M&A and integration, supply chain management, trade distribution and related tax work. His experience includes international estate planning and execution, charitable and asset protection structures, and inheritancerelated litigation. He has also served as an arbitrator in commercial disputes. He has expertise in the following industries: life sciences, consumer, banking & finance, chemical and hospitality. Christoph R. Ramstein was born in 1951. He graduated from the University of Zurich (lic.iur. 1978), earned a Masters in Business Administration at the University of St. Gall (lic.oec. 1976), served in 1978 as a law clerk at the District Court of Meilen, and was admitted to the bar in 1980. In 1983/1984, he worked with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, New York. In 1986, he became a partner at Pestalozzi. Christoph R. Ramstein is a former managing partner at Pestalozzi, a former president of the Banking and Finance Commission of the AIJA, and an active member of the Company Law Commission of the UIA - Union Internationale des Avocats. LORENZA FERRARI HOFER Lorenza Ferrari Hofer is head of Pestalozzi s IP & TMT practice group and a member of the Corporate/M&A practice group in Zurich. Her fields of expertise include intellectual property, unfair competition, data protection and contract law. She has years of experience in the development, licensing, trade and distribution of technology, as well as of therapeutic, health and food products (including product liability matters). Lorenza Ferrari Hofer deals with both commercial and litigious matters. She regularly lectures and publishes in the fields of international licensing and technology transfer, and on several areas of unfair competition and intellectual property law. Lorenza Ferrari Hofer is a member of various national and international organizations, such as AIPPI (president of the Swiss national group), IBA, INTA, INGRES, and LES. She is consistently recommended by the leading directories of the legal profession such as Legal 500 Chambers Europe, Who s Who Legal and IAM. In 2005, she qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales. Lorenza Ferrari Hofer began her professional career at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, where she worked in the Trademark Department before taking on specific tasks in connection with WTO Law (TRIPs Agreement) and UN Law (Convention on Biological Diversity). She subsequently worked for several years as an in-house lawyer for a major Swiss watch and micromechanics manufacturer.
