BACK OFFICE SYSTEM The entire system consists of the front-end devices, the back office system and operating / support we provide. We operate the system in close cooperation with our customer over the whole system lifetime. We give our customers the full support of how the system is operated optimally. Our back office system can be connected to different front-end devices at the same time, such as vehicle computers, validators, stationary sales systems or portable inspection devices; only one common back office system is used. The access to the back office system is Browser-based. This means at the workstations at the transport operator offices no special application is needed; the back office system can be accessed by any standard Personal Computer, Notebook, Tablet or even a Smartphone by a standard Browser like Mozilla Firefox for example. Our back office system consists of different modules. These modules fit in each case to the desired front-end functions. Example: A ticketing application on front-end needs the appropriate modules at the back office system. SMART TRANSIT GMBH 2015 4
Beyond that there are some general functions like for example the process management, the data base management including reporting and import and export functionalities and the back office user management, which allows different access rights to different user groups (sales, dispatcher, workshop, system administration). Usually we offer our back office system as a rented system including security, backups and the interface to the Internet. This means that our customers do not have to buy and operate the back office system hardware by themselves. Our scalable back office systems are successful in use for more than a decade. We operate small systems with a few dozen devices as well as up to systems with thousand devices with a few hundred thousand transactions per day. DEVICE MANAGEMENT The device management application concerns the front-end devices as well as the back office system. All our devices are supplied on-line with new software updates and configuration data. The same applies to any kind of transaction data as for example ticket sales or smart card data. This all is done automatically over the air via mobile communication. This makes an easy and fast system administration possible. The devices are monitoring themselves and their interfaces, and send the system status ongoing to the back office. The devices and the back office status are clearly indicated to the workshop and the system administration by different monitors and lists. Unusual conditions or system failures can be shown on-line or even reported by automatic email messages to the administration or the workshop for example. SMART TRANSIT GMBH 2015 5
DEVICE USER The device users can be administrated as well at the back office system. A device user normally must identify himself by an identification (login) and a password, before he has access to the device application. These identifications and passwords are managed at the back office system. The device users can change their initial passwords by their own at the device. It is possible to create different user groups like for example drivers, kiosk staff, inspectors or system administrators. These user groups can have different access right regarding the different possible front-end device applications. The vehicle devices have at least two modes for daylight and night operation. The vehicle computer user-interface layout is partially configurable to the wishes of the transport operator. The front-end software is provided usually with the local language. TICKETING / FARE COLLECTION Our fare collection application covers different media like paper tickets, smart card based tickets or bar-code tickets, which can be adapted on the local requirements. Paper tickets can be sold based on different tariff models, such as flat-fare, linerelated, distance-related or zone-based tariff models. We can operate several tariffs at the same time like local, suburban or national tariffs. We enable different ticket types like single tickets, multi-ride tickets or time-based weekly, monthly or yearly pass tickets and several customer groups like adults, children, students or seniors. Optional we also issue and check smart card based tickets, based on different international or local standards. Possible are single tickets, multi-ride tickets, passes or stored value, both personalized and anonymously ticket media. Different smart card technologies can be used as for example Mifare Ultralight, Mifare Classic, Mifare Desfire or other micro-processor based smart cards. A further possibility consists in processing bar code tickets on paper or mobile phones also. We provide a ticket basket with change calculation. Already sold ticket can be cancelled within a configurable time. There are sales person individual shift accounts with printed shift end reports included. Tickets can be checked automatically. Different validity characteristics can be processed automatically up to the use of so called blocking or white lists. Furthermore smart card processing rules are possible for automatic update of smart card products like for example auto-load. The ticket definitions including several tariff characteristics including the paper ticket layouts and the smart card definitions are managed at the back offices system and then transferred to the front-end devices. All sales, registration or shifts transactions are transferred from the front-end devices to the back offices system, where these transactions can be processed, evaluated or passed to third party systems. VEHICLE TRACKING AND TRACING The DC800 on-board computer system determines the vehicle position every second. The vehicle position is transferred automatically to the back office system continually. At the back office system all actual vehicle positions are indicated clearly. This can happen on different map standards. Usually we use OpenStreetMap. Other standards like Navteq or Google Maps are likewise possible. If line data with stops are available, these lines and stops can be imported into the back office system. In this case the driver can select the line he wants to drive. During the drive a pearl-cord with the actual stop is shown and the continuous stopswitching-operation works automatically. At the same time a line-based view is possible at the back office system. If there are no line data with geographical coordinates available, they can be created easily with our tools. The dispatcher can select different vehicles, different lines or other selection criteria. He can have a look to a specific vehicle with its details. The vehicle can be centred and followed automatically. A message can be send to the selected vehicle. The Geo- Map can be used as well to create or modify the geographic coordinates of stops or other locations like trigger points. If timetable data are available, they can be imported into the back office system. Then the punctuality of the vehicle can be displayed at the vehicle computer to the driver as well as at the back office system to the dispatcher. Late or early vehicles can be identified easily. The dispatcher can undertake the necessary action if needed. Additionally our back office system can provide real-time passenger information to stationary displays, to vehicle internal displays or to a Web-application. With our back office system the dispatcher can monitor these displays or send additional actual information to these displays any time. SMART TRANSIT GMBH 2015 7
VEHICLE COMMUNICATION Part of the standard system is the text messages communication between the vehicles and the dispatcher. The dispatcher can sent a pre-defined or an individual message to one or more vehicles, to one or more drivers or to one or more lines. Then these messages are indicated to the respective receiver (vehicle, driver ) at the respective on-board computers. The driver can sent a pre-defined message to the dispatcher. The possible messages are defined within the back office system configuration. The messages are displayed to the dispatcher. All outgoing and incoming messages are archived at the back office system. Optionally voice communication is possible also. Then an additional GSM modem will be integrated into the vehicle including a driver microphone, a loudspeaker and the interface to the vehicle computer system to manage the voice calls. Herewith voice calls from the dispatcher to the vehicle and reverse are possible. Also emergency calls for example to the police or any other organisation are possible. Furthermore it is possible to attach a hidden attack button to the vehicle to trigger emergency calls. VALIDATORS AND PORTABLE DEVICES As option we provide on-board validators, which can process smart card or bar-code tickets. The validator can easily interfaced to the vehicle computer via Ethernet. Additionally we provide portable devices for inspectors or service personal, which can check smart card based or bar-code tickets. The data communication to the back office is done via mobile communication (GPRS, UMTS). Please ask for more details about these solutions. MANAGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY VEHICLE DEVICES The vehicle computer system has the possibility to communicate with different vehicle devices like for example destination displays, inside stop announcement displays or voice announcement systems. In this context different interfaces can be used like IBIS (four-wire interface in accordance with VDV 300 Standard), local area network or proprietary serial interfaces. The on-board computer can produce stop announcements, which are passed via an audio-line to an amplifier system. It is also possible to manage infotainment systems within the vehicle, which can display stop information and advertisements; in this case the vehicle computer can be used as central vehicle data storage. SUPPORT SERVICES Of course, we offer all the necessary support services such as project management, engineering, installation advice and operating manuals, hardware maintenance, software support, operating support and training.
