Version 12 Installation Instructions
System Requirements These files should be loaded on a server running ASP.NET 2.0, and with at least 50 Mb of free disk space. For clients to access the application they will need a browser enabled machine with an Internet Browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Installation Procedure There are three steps to install IMDG Code for Intranet Version 12: 1. Installation 2. Configuration in IIS 3. Activation Step 1 - Installation: 1.1 Installing from a CD Insert the IMDG for Intranet CD into your CD-ROM drive. The CD should auto-run. If not, double click on imdginet.exe. 1.2 Downloading the installation setup Download the installation setup file from http://www.imdgsupport.com/intranetdownload.asp and double click on imdginet.exe 1.3 The set up process will now install the full system into the specified folder. Ensure this is a different folder to any previous version. Click 'Finish' to complete the set up. Step 2 - Configuration in Internet Information Services (IIS): Depending upon the version of IIS you are using, you will need to create a virtual directory OR an application under IIS. IIS 6 (Windows 2003 or earlier) you will need to create a Virtual Directory. See Step 2.1. IIS 7 (Windows 2008 or later) you will need to create an Application. See Step 2.2. 2.1 Create an IIS virtual directory, e.g. imdg12, on the server pointing to the install directory used in Step 1. a) Open Internet Information Services Manager (IIS), Start->Control Panel- >Administrative Tools->Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. 1
b) In IIS Manager, right-click on the relevant website and select New and Virtual Directory. c) Click Next 2
d) In the Alias textbox enter the name of the virtual directory by which this will be identified e.g. IMDG12 (without the quotes). e) Click the browse button and navigate to the path where the Install from Step 1 took place, Click OK. 3
f) On the Virtual Directory Access Permissions Screen ensure that the Read and Run options are ticked, as below. Click Next g) Click Finish. 4
h) On the IMDG12 Virtual Directory, or the name given in Step 2(d), right-click, select properties and then select the ASP.NET tab. Ensure that under the ASP.NET version 2.0.50727 (or higher) is selected. 5
i) Test that the installation has been successful using the link:- http://<server>/<virtual directory alias>/admin.aspx (e.g. http://localhost/imdg12/admin.aspx) Supplemental configuration in IIS6 In IIS6 it may be necessary to check, and modify where necessary, the configuration for the application and application pool. By default the IMDG Code for Intranet Application will run under the DefaultAppPool as pictured below: If IMDG Code for Intranet is the only application installed on the server then this configuration may be acceptable however if the server is shared with other applications it is recommended to run the application under a suitable application pool dedicated for itself, or other similar category applications. If you choose to, you can create a custom application pool as follows: Right Click on Application Pools and select New from the context menu followed by Application Pool. The following dialog will appear. Give the application pool a name such as IMDG12 and press OK. 6
The properties for the application pool will be similar to the following: One of the potential properties that may need to be modified is the Identity : 7
The security account can be changed inline with any security policies in place on your system. To set the Application to use a custom application pool select the required setting from the application drop-down pool as follows: 8
9
2.2 In IIS 7 from the start page navigate to the website that is to host IMDG Code for Intranet most likely this will be the Default Web Site (Server name->sites->default Web Site). a) From there select the installation path created in Step 1.3 b) Right click on the folder created in Step 1.3 and select Convert to Application. This will display the Add Application dialog as below. c) At this point it is worth testing that the IIS 7 process has sufficient privileges to be able to run/read the application this can be tested by pressing the Test Settings button. 10
d) If the above step failed then you will need to provide the credentials of a user with administrative privileges that can read/run the application. To do this click on the Connect as button, select the Specific user radio option and press the Set button. Enter the user name and password of such a user with administrative privileges. e) You should now be able to click on the Test Settings button and both Authentication and Authorization stages will be valid (as below). 11
f) Note for 64-bit servers You may need to enable to enable 32-bit applications on your server. You can set this by going to the Application Pools section under Connections and selecting the Application Pool used by IMDG Code for Intranet (e.g. DefaultAppPool) and then selecting Advanced Settings from the Features panel on the right hand side. From the prompted dialog box under the General section ensure that Enabled 32-Bit Applications is set to True (as below). 12
g) Test that the installation has been successful using the link:- http://<server>/<virtual directory alias>/admin.aspx (e.g. http://localhost/imdg12/admin.aspx) 13
Step 3 Activation In order to use IMDG Code for Intranet it will need to be activated with an activation code supplied by Exis Technologies. To activate IMDG Code for Intranet system visit the admin.aspx page (e.g. http://localhost/imdg12/admin.aspx). You will be prompted with a Serial Number (S/N) for the installation, as pictured below: Email your request to support@existec.com quoting: Serial Number. Company Name Your details email address if not yours Your activation code will be returned to the specified email address. Enter the activation code in the corresponding box as above. Threshold time You will also need to supply a Threshold time limit. This is the maximum time a users session will last for (since the last time of activity) before the system will attempt to re-allocate that session to another user if you have a license for a set number of users. If your server has a session timeout limit of say 20 minutes by default and you put a threshold of 60 minutes the server session timeout period (i.e. 20) will take effect. If you press the Submit button (having supplied your activation code and threshold limit) IMDG Code for Intranet is now activated. (Note. If you want to change the Threshold limit at any point you can revisit the admin page and supply your original activation code and supply the new Threshold limit). Access Control In the license agreement you will be asked to agree to regulate access to the system by means of a user validation procedure. 14
Simple usage instructions Click on Main Menu. To find a substance by UN number, click on Dangerous Goods List and type the number. You can click on the links to its packing instructions, special provisions, emergency schedule, etc. To find a substance by name, click on Substance Index and enter the first few characters of the name. Click on a name to see its Dangerous Goods List entry. To find a specific paragraph number, packing, tank or IBC instruction, or an Emergency schedule, select that from the main menu, and enter its name. To browse the code, click on Main Menu. Select the part number to get to that part's contents, and click on the required topic. Usage Report instructions You can view how IMDG Code for Intranet is being used by visiting the usage report - report.aspx (e.g. http://localhost/imdg12/report.aspx). The page displays information such as the licenced until date, number of unallocated slots and the timeframes in which the slots where last updated as per the screenshot below: System Update instructions When a system update is required you will be provided with a link to download a file which runs a system update wizard. You will be prompted to select a Destination Location, typically folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\imdg12. 15
It is important that the update overwrites the location of your existing installation, so ensure at this stage that your original installation was installed at this Destination Location. You can then continue with your system update wizard installation. Extend License Agreement/Activation code instructions. You will have received an Activation code to extend your license expiry date beyond your existing arrangements. This Activation code can only be used with your existing serial number so it is important to locate the machine that you originally installed IMDG Code for Intranet on. Having done so you will need to link to http://localhost/imdg12/admin.aspx which will display this page. 16
At this point you can check your program serial number (e.g. 1234567 in this example) against your original serial number and the serial number that the extended Activation code was issued against. They must be the same, if they are not, please get in touch with the Helpdesk. If they are the same, then simply enter your extended Activation Code in the field provided and select the Submit button.
