District of Columbia Prior to entering private practice, I had worked in the U.S Department of Justice, beginning as an Honor Law Graduate in the Civil Rights Division in August 1971. As a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division, I investigated, prepared and tried significant cases involving prisoners rights, the rights of the mentally disabled and the cultural rights of American Indians. During my tenure with the Department of Justice I was involved in all stages of federal litigation, including the following: Morton v. Mancari, 417 U.S. 535 (1976) (American Indian rights) Teterud v.
